as mentioned before, the huge success that quietly goes unnoticed is the sheer number of engines that have been expended in these tests, and how quickly and inexpensively they are replaced. "Well, we learned a lot from that launch, now grab another and load it into the breach"

Seeing her getting to be the "Live Cross Expert" is good news - Ellie can present herself in ways that manipulate the media organisations to choose her over thier in-house and uninformed reporters, that gets a person with actual knowledge about the events in place to present accurate reports, and not the usual "SpaceX Rocket Explodes Again!" headlines. Supporting her to get that message accuracy out there, yep, that's an easy choice.

I drove to Starbase from Michigan for launch 2 in my Class B Ford Transit motor home. I actually parked right across the street from the main gate by those three concrete electrical junctions recently installed for two days. It was a true bucket list trip.. I watched the launch from Isle LaBlanca campground. I hope to make a launch in the fourth quarter this year. Super amazing trip...

Thanks, Ellie! What your guest from Washington says is so true about stealth camping. I just added a sub trunk fridge /freezer that Lars @BestinTesla recommended. It alleviates all the mess of bagged ice and draining the cooler on those long trips to Starbase. The Camp Mode feature in the software is awesome.

I can't wait to see how Space-X addresses the excessive roll-rate issue. But also, would be nice to see the first stage slow down to 0-kph before it drops into the sea. Love your coverage. If you hear anything about specific changes to address either of these issues, I'd be very interested... like always actually. Thank you for your work. This is now one of my top 3 channels. Top 3: EinS, EvDayAstro, and SingItLive... Ellie in Space replaced StarTalk because you have better content for adults, while StarTalk seems to address the kids more and more.

I’m really hoping we get to see some aircraft-based video of the booster descent/ill-fated RUD, as well as the 2nd stage re-entry, like the video which was recorded during IFT-2, from NASA’s surveillance plane. I hope someone has filed a FOI request for these!
@myyklmax
@myyklmax 2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there will not be any videos of the Superheavy Booster RUD; since a Maritime Keep Out Restriction was in place for the area along the IFT3 flight path. However, NASA was given authorization to fly their reconnaissance aircraft to track Starship's reentry. Those recording might be made available in a very days or weeks.

In pharmacy, first testing is done in vitro (in test tubes), then in vivo(in actual living animals/people). Elon showed the learning curve is faster and more robust by ramping up in vivo testing asap. (I.e. actual launches asap instead of more simulations & test stand runs).

Great job. Does the "roll rate" issue imply problems with maneuvering thrusters? The starship thrusters now use "ullage gas" (ask Everyday Astronaut) instead of their own propellants? Will that work in orbit? Can the current thruster design be fixed or will they have to go back to conventionally fueled thrusters? Also, would the roll rate may have prevented a good test of the heat tiles because they would not have been consistently in the correct orientation?

I found a small piece of heat tile after the first launch that blew up early so not surprising. But they must solve this problem. Starship cannot lose tiles at launch or in flight because that makes re-entry impossible.

I'm wondering if they forgot about having some attitude adjusting thrusters on the starship or was there no programming for that automatic adjustment in the code by the onboard flight computer? Obviously spinning would result in the fuel being forced to the outer walls of the tanks away from the drain points making it impossible to get fuel to the engines to light them up.

They missed what NASA paid them in their contract for, a HLS for the Artemis program. Neil Armstrong and other retired astronauts were right, contracting out to commercialize Space will lead to problems, especially the ones that self police and put commercial goals before contract goals.
