Andy Serkis deserves an award for his work on Andor

That final line is such a gut punch the fact they went though all of that, rallying everyone, leading them, giving that speech, you genuinely start to root for the character, then you get to the scene, everyones jumping off, they’re free, but even though he’s free aswell, he’s not gonna get to enjoy it.

The cool thing about Andor not being a "hero" is that anyone that manages to get off that planet and survive is gonna say that Kino Loy is the one who set the prisoners free, making him into a small folk hero, because Andor had him make the announcement instead of himself.

Andy and his character won my heart ... That's a rare feat; far rarer for star wars. Overall, Andor is a few cuts above other star wars productions in terms of plot, acting and direction.

Love how Kino goes from bumping by Andor in their first dorm room to work station line-up to walking next to him, shoulder to shoulder, on the day of the escape. All of that, and I’m pretty sure Kino’s line on “assume I’m already dead” is because he knew he couldn’t swim to shore even if they did escape. At that point he’s already sacrificed himself to his men. One way out. But honestly, that’s the heroes end we don’t want! Give us more Kino!!! Find a way!!!

It doesn't matter if he jumped, because in that moment, he was free.

He knew from the beginning of his incarceration that he would never be able to escape due to not being able to swim. Hence, his determination to obediently finish his sentence. It was his only way out alive. This was why he was so resilient to Andor's urging to initiate a prison wide escape. He knew if he did, it would all end for him on that platform as it did at the end of episode ten. All this time, he put himself and his aspirations to be free first. It wasn't until Ulof's death, he realized that regardless of his sense of self preservation, he and everyone was going to die there. That's when he decided to put everyone else first and use his influence and leadership to motivate the prisoners to fight back and escape. Even though it would mean the end for himself.

Id like to think he fought his way back inside the prison, stole a starship and flew offworld.

I love his slow transformation. First he's the big fish in the small pond. He's in charge, he is above the rest. Then slowly he starts to unravel as he learns that he's never getting out, but still he keeps it together. You see the struggle in his eyes, in his movements. He's slowly bursting, but he doesn't allow himself to completely lose control until he's back in his cell, in what little privacy he has there with his back to the door, as he yells the words he still doesn't want to believe but knows to be true.

The look of pride on Cassa's face when Kino repeats his words with such ferocity really got me. It's the look of a fighter who's just found his strongest ally. He can't know that he's going to (at least appear to) lose him just a few minutes later, but seeing someone grow into a hero because of Cassa's words is going to change him profoundly.

So much has happened in this series that the heist feels like ages ago and that's an amazing thing.

One way out!

He wrote the background for his character himself? Amazing!

They did a great job at "turning" the character but adhering to a consistent core drive so it feels "right". If you view his actions as "I want everyone to get home alive" all his actions, whether antagonistic or friendly, still make sense....really great writing and performances with so much depth

“Step 8, Reznov! FREEDOM!”

It’s a masterful performance. I hope he wins a bunch of awards (Emmy, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Kid’s Choice). My headcanon is that he jumps & someone else helps him to shore.

The writing in this episode is so incredible. The main theme is "One Way Out" - with the prisoners, it's to fight their way past the guards. With the mole (and indeed for Luthen) it's the fall of the Empire. With Mon Mothma, the only way out is to allow her family to be directly affected by her fight, something she had avoided till present. But there is also another theme. Luthen says it most directly - he's not just sacrificing his present humanity, he's sacrificing his future. There's no way he's going to be able to live in the world he's fighting for. Kino Loy goes through something similar - he leads all the way to the exit and then ... he can't swim. He KNEW he couldn't swim. He knew he would get to that water, and that would be it for him. Mon Mothma's is darker still. She isn't sacrificing HER future. She's sacrificing her family's future. She's sacrificing her legacy. The writing in this episode is so good it boggles my mind. They interwove the themes of the episode through 3 separate story lines, 3 separate characters and did so in a way that felt so natural and fluid, it's actually easy to miss it.

I think he went to the water level and exited with emergency life raft. I mean, the Imperial Forces must have had some kind of emergency stuff lying around.

This show just keeps getting better and better. I've really enjoyed watching Kino's arc, and a lot of credit for that goes to Andy Serkis's performance. He just nailed every scene he was in and made me believe in and root for his character. I hope that Kino managed to escape somehow, because I'd love to see him reappear next season.

He could have used his pants as a floatation device by taking them off, tieing the legs together, them filling them with air.

Honestly, I think he took his newfound sense of personal autonomy and took a leap of faith like he did in that prison escape. Whether he lived or died, the important thing is that he acted of his own free will.

I feel like it’s heavily implied that Kino Loy unfortunately died in the waters so he can escape like everyone else. That sad and blank look at the end to me looks like he knows what he has to do, but distraught that it would be his last action

Quick comment: Andy actually hasn't won an Oscar but he certainly deserves it.

It's a testament to the great acting/writing/direction/score that a common trope of a well liked character dying still has such impact in this episode. I was half expecting one of the guards in the main control room to pull out a hidden blaster and Kino jumping in front and saving Andor. It would have sucked, but it would be almost expected. That line though, such a fresh take and so tragic, it sticks with you.

Anyone who has served a slave contract for a company or the government will not just enjoy this episode, but LOVE IT. I currently have a work contract until early next year which has thrown me into spiraling depressions numerous times and have actually needed treatment given the awful abuse we get. I could never quit because my job because the government would charge $3K per each of my 30 month sentence with rights to garnish wages. I have had acts of racism done against me, had to compete against other people for scraps of what the higher ups make, can't speak up because of retaliation, forced to work physically extreme repetitive tasks every day, rarely have a day off (work week consists of 6 days a week) get punished for not meeting expectations, no pay increase at all, and what's worst of all, I absolutely hate the job I do. Seeing Andor, Loy, and the rest of the gang break free was like seeing myself in that crowd yelling ONE WAY OUT. Thank you to all who made this show, I thank you for showing me a glimpse of what my life will be once my contract expires next April.

Andy Serkis has always been an amazing actor. His role as Ian Dury in the 2010 film sex, drugs and rock and roll is incredible. He had to learn about 17 different songs with the real band to nail his role. It's mind-blowing.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it'd be amazing if Kino, realizing he can't get out by swimming, becomes a ghost in the prison -- not a literal ghost, just a sneaky, subtle badass. He knows that whatever they're building is too important for the Empire to leave the prison empty for long. He knows that, first chance they get, the Empire is going to be carting back in more prisoners to get production moving again. And so he stalks from the shadows, using a stolen pair of insulated boots to move about as he pleases. He becomes like Ratman from Portal, leaving clues and messages scratched into walls, using a network of hidden maintenance compartments and storage rooms to keep out of sight of the guards while inspiring dissent. This time, simply getting out isn't good enough -- this time they're going to figure out how to tear the whole bloody place down and leave on hijacked supply ships. And thus, the Rebel Fleet is born...

I was positively jumping with joy at that breakout! “NOW WE TAKE VORTUKA!!!” That was the energy I got from that.

Look at his face when Keeno finally said it "No one...is getting...out!" Admittance and realization that everything he did was for nothing. And who knows how many he saw out, only to realize they were only repeating their sentencing elsewhere. It all came crashing down right at that moment...and he lost it, right there just for a moment. And that was just a 3 second moment.

This is what I've been saying since the episode aired. Kino jumped and just because you can't swim doesn't mean your instantly going to sink and drown.

This show makes me care not just about the main characters but the "background" characters as well. I was sad when Ulaf died and also when the ginger bro died... he was pessimistic but in the end he joined the fight and died for it

Seeing Andy Serkis in Andor was a real treat but seeing the development of his character was so much better.

Episode 10 is the best so far in an already incredible series. And I love the way Keno delivers the line "I can't swim" with almost laughter in his voice, knowing his journey has probably ended and the irony of freedom being found, but not for him. Though with a little planning I'm sure they could have worked together to bring Keno to shore.

I yelled at the world when he was giving the speech over the speaker, it was so intense and so just fucking awesome I could not hold myself…then my family looked akwardly at me but it was worth it

I strongly believe that “One Way Out” is one of the best examples of episodic storytelling ever. I just can’t remember an episode of anything that affected me like “One Way Out” did.

Let's take a moment to, apart from all of the stunning dialogue, character building (etc, I could go on forever with this series), appreciate the music in this episode, and all of Andor in general. From the many versions of the Andor theme resonating in many varieties, to the beautiful full-orchestra music we hear as we zoom out of the prison at the finale of the prison break. While beautiful and resolute, it is also haunting to listen to as we see Kino's expression, with the other prisoners around him escaping as he knows he cannot join the escape. Such a great way to have the music accompany the characters and story. It is never black and white, even beautiful moments can contain despair; as we celebrate the successful prison break, we simultaneously realize a character we love so much will not make it (at least for now, let's hope ;) ). What a series!

There are no words to express the levels of joy, pain, solidarity and sorrow experienced watching one of the grandest displays of superior acting ever to grace any screen. THIS is what good/pure acting, writing, & directing should be...this is real story telling.

Because Gollum/Caesar/Snoke are such iconic roles it has quite literally hidden the fact that Andy Serkis is just a really good actor.

I would love a deep exploration of the cinematography of Andor.

We didn't see him die, thus he didn't die. We can know that for sure.

I just imagine Alan running down the street in his bathrobe, yelling and meeting another person who is dressed just like him and yelling too. They punch each other in the face and exchange remarks: "Sorry I just watched Andor! - Yeah me too! It's awesome! - Hell yeah!"

Andy Serkis deserves more screen time as Kino Loy. From what Gilroy hinted at in an interview today, that is at least a possibility for season 2. I don't think Kino's survival would cheapen this episode and Serkis is such an outstanding actor that he deserves all the attention he is receiving and a few awards for his brilliant performance. Andor has featured the finest acting we've seen in Star Wars.

Andy Serkis’ performance as Kino Loy reminds me of his role as Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy. Glad that Tony Gilroy was able to use his talents.

He jumped but I hope we never have confirmation on whether he survived. I personally believe that he would’ve been helped by other prisoners because there are a bunch there (although there was that one guy who got trampled).

I think this is the best acting I have ever seen Andy do, it was great. I think the defining moment for me, was in the scene leading up to the revolt, seeing him act as Kino, TRYING to behave as if he's doing his normal floor manager role, projecting confidence and authority, but his face and subtle mannerisms conveying Kino's fear, his nervousness, his lack of confidence, his desperation. A master acting performance.

No prison can keep Gollum away from his precious! Andy Serkis is in my opinion one of the best actors of the last 20 years.

I grew to care about this character a lot. He told the rest of the prison to help anyone they see who's lost or confused. I really, really hope they take that to heart, and someone sees he's in need of help, and finds a way. I will not accept Kino staying in that prison. I can't. That's not who he is. If he doesn't jump, he WILL find another way. I noticed that Cassian was taking those first small movements to get to Kino before he was instantly pushed over the edge.

This show is honestly one of the greatest shows this IPS ever given us.

Kino has been such a joy to watch on screen every episode had me on the edge of my seat truly a master piece star wars series.

Well Andor needs to capture a ship to get out of the planet. Nothing says Kino won't take a ship as new prisoner come by.

Firstly, I think the casting directors of ANDOR deserve huge credit for their clever casting choices. In this case, not only because Serkis and Skarsgård are good and well-known actors but because their filmographies are so diverse-having both played villains and good guys-that it adds a proper level of ambiguity to their characters on this show. Secondly, having been in a managerial position where I had to motivate my team to give their all in order to achieve the final product, I can somewhat relate to Kino’s frustration towards Melshi’s fatalism. Kino is trying so hard to keep everyone staying afloat on that tiny buoy of hope that Melshi’s constant defeatism just feel like a dead weight dragging them down. He deserves to be punched. Lol. Lastly, it dawned on me that, had it not been for the P.O.R.D., Ulaf would’ve only had 20 shifts left and Kino just a bit over 100 (since they doubled all their sentencing). Not that it matters in the end but it does make me think that this blow only pressured Kino to drive them harder and, thus, crack deeper when he discovers the brutal truth.

I really hope we get a second season. Tell your friends to watch. This show is so good.

He knew, the guards and the supposed microphones everywhere were window dressing, he knew as soon as the doctor explained what happened that he was going to die, it was such a beautiful personification and condensed version of luthens speech.

Remember andor telling Juno that rebellions are built on hope this is it. Those prisoners who escaped and who can spread that virus and their story of resistance to others is how rebellions begin. Everyone through rough and hard times have hope get back up and keep going forward, fear no evil. Stand as your individual selves make your own mark in the world, learn, train and motivate yourself and others around you.

Excellent video! Serkis, Skarsgard, & Whitaker have all been killing it in their roles. Impressive performances all around in what has proven to be the best Star Wars series yet. I hope Serkis gets the recognition he deserves!

The reason someone would want to be a shift manager is because they are immune from being fried if a table is the low producer of the shift.

Kino MUST believe in the system because that very system is what, at some point, will set him free. Once he realizes that it's a sham and that he'll never be free and then there's no other choice but to rebel which is hard and wrought with sacrifice. Great episode, amazing dialog and spectacular actors. Love this show.

As someone who work in corrections, this setting is very accurate. The system I worked in was very understaffed and units often have 1 or 2 people the officers entrust to be leader in their respective unit. Even down to the mock sign language to talk to other inmates this show captures a correctional setting very well.

I honestly hope we never find out. Anything they write for him after that point will pale in comparison to what we speculate. If they do write it, let him die while escaping. His sacrifice for others and inability to save himself parallels the way Andor's life ends as well. As much as I like the idea of him getting to escape and have a happy ending somewhere off screen, I don't think that's what's narratively correct for the series. And anything more complicated than his death or his quiet retirement feels like it will be lessening the sacrifice.

Whether in the end he jumps or doesn’t, I’d like to think he stays back to rally, organize, and fight to help as many people as possible make it out

Andy Serkis is possibly the most skilled man alive in understanding how to convey emotion through micro movements. The way his face sank and his eyes shone a little when he was able to take over the prison showed a deep well of emotion by restraining it. He could not have sold it any better if he had started sobbing there.

I really like that they kept Kino's fate unknown. Not only for all the speculation content it generates but it also leaves the door open for his return if it makes sense in the story to do so and Andy Sirkis is available to return to play that part.
