Here's my best credit card strategy for Q3 2023!
1. Capital One Venture X: I’m using this card for my non-category spend (2X miles) and for airport lounge access to the Capital One Lounge DFW.
2. Bilt Mastercard: My top choice to pay rent, earn rewards, and avoid fees! An excellent travel credit card with no annual fee.
3. Hilton Honors Business Card: I’ve got a stay at a Hilton hotel soon, so I’ll use this card to earn 12X points. I’m also using it for healthcare expenses (3X) to work toward the Hilton Free Night Award. I’ll need to spend a total of $15K for the entire year to receive that award, which can be well worth it since it has no limit on total redemption value.
4. U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve: My choice for Costco purchases since it earns 3X points on mobile wallet transactions (and it’s a Visa credit card, which is required at Costco).
5. Amazon Prime Visa: To earn 5% cash back at Amazon. I simply leave this card as my default payment method so it’s always available when I check out.
6. U.S. Bank Cash Plus: This one allows me to earn 5% cash back on TV, Internet, and Streaming as well as on Home Utilities. A very unique credit card that covers categories not seen on many other cards!
7. Discover it Cash Back credit card: This is the best quarter of 2023 in my opinion since it’s earning 5% cash back on Digital Wallet transactions - as well as 5% at gas stations - on up to $1,500 in combined spend. Since ‘digital wallets’ is so broad, this is my go-to card for groceries, Target, restaurants, online shopping, and more.

I’m just as excited about the digital wallets category on the discover card, lol. I got 5% cash back on my haircut and shopping at target this weekend, and that kind of variety is why I love the digital wallets category.

Definitely yes on the Discover video! I’ve had mine since 2016 as well and love it. I just have been able to pay off all my debt so really looking to optimize the cards I have and get new ones as well. I appreciate your insight and advice in these videos! You’re very genuine and honest!

Great mix, Mark. I have the Venture X (2% cover all) and Savor1 for 3%’s, Discover it, 2 BoA custom cash with 1 set to online shop and 1 set to home improvement, and Chase Freedom (original). Haven’t got a new one in a while so researching now

Looks like a great setup Mark! I'm working on SUB's for Citi Biz AA card, US Bank Altitude Connect Biz Card and 2nd Hilton Biz Card. Working on free night certificate on 1st Hilton Biz card. I also use my Wyndham Biz Card for power and gas bills for 5x and my Amex Biz Plat for cellphone bill for $10 monthly credit and insurance. I charge any airline taxes to my CSP. Cable/Internet goes on my CIC for 5x. I feel like I'm forgetting one!

I’m carrying the Freedom Flex for 5x at gas stations, the AMEX Gold because it’s beautiful, the Citi Custom Cash for 5x at restaurants, the AMEX Platinum because I have a AMEX offer on it for grocery spend, and my most used card is the Discover it in my digital wallet for the 5% when using Apple Pay.

Hi Mark, I literally just got the Discover IT card two weeks ago. It’s my first cash back card and the categories to receive the cash back are especially great for summer travel and use (Digital Wallet and Gas! ) Thanks for a great video!

I’ll be using the Citi Rewards+ for the welcome offer spend, Chase Freedom Flex on Gas, Citi Custom Cash on Restaurants, Us Bank Cash+ for Utilities, and Internet, Amex Gold for Groceries, Amex Platinum for Flights, Discover It for Apple Pay (not topped by another 5X/4X card), Amex Blue Cash for Online Shopping, Chase Sapphire Preferred for Transit, Netflix, and Costco, Citi Premiere for Hotels, and the Citi Double Cash for everything else.

Yep. With the stacked bonus offers that I’ve had on the Prime card this year, I got 4% back on all non category spend up to $1500 for three months.

Mark, Thank you so much for this channel and your advice. Since February, I acquired Chase Freedom Unlimited, Flex, Sapphire Preferred and Ink Unlimited cards and completed the bonuses. I consolidated the points to Sapphire and need help. Should I use the Sapphire exclusively as it has a 10% anniversary bonus? I'm also sure to cancel the Ink, but when and how should I do this?

1. I'd use the card(s) that have the highest multiplier for the spend category you're about to make a purchase in. 2. The 10% Anniversary Bonus is actually a very unrewarding benefit. In my eyes, it's almost a $0 value. Say you spend $50K on the CSP. You'd get 10% back _in the form of points,_ meaning 5,000 points. Those 5,000 points are worth $50 cash or $62.50+ toward travel. In other words, it's actually like an extra 0.1% return. 3. Be sure to keep all cards for at least 1 full year prior to cancelling.

@@MarkReese Thank you so much! That description of the 10% anniversary bonus is something you should make a video of. I was perfectly willing to use that exclusively as I saw it as a multiplier. I'll use the Flex for it's bonus categories and the Freedom unlimited for the first year's 5% Groceries category.

Mark, just wanted to say that I knew what the middle card in your wallet was! I used to have that Discover card design to match with my Chase Card colors. btw the design you have is called "ocean", the other one u have that wasn't in wallet in beginning of video is called "blue". The one I have is called "copper" to match with the C1 Savor color even though I have the QS and NOT a Savor or SavorOne card. Great Video Mark!

Discover It is a no brainer for Q3 5% on digital wallets. My number one in my wallet. This card is getting abused. I was considering getting another Discover but I just got at Bilt card and I am exactly at 4/24 and saving that slot for Q4 for CSP.

Mark.When you get a new card say a chase ink, do you put all your expenses on it to get the sign up bonus first? Or do you still use the other cards that have the highest reward pts in each category like chase freedom flex for gas & chase preferred for dining and put all the other expenses that don't have high rewards pts on the new ink card?

In most cases, I put all spend on the new card. I ignore all the regular multipliers I have on other cards, even if I'm only earning 1X on the new card. That's because once the bonus hits, it's often the equivalent of having earned like earning 8X, 10X, or more.

I'd personally want to have 0 new inquiries and 0 newly opened accounts in the past 6 months prior to applying. I'd also open a checking or savings account with them (not required, but may help with an approval).

For the business Hilton it says it ends on July 19th does that mean July 18th is the last day to apply for the card or is the 19th the last day to apply for the card?

It usually means that same day, so July 19 would be the final day before the offer expires at night.

Hey mark and cc community , I have a pre approval offer on Amex plat for 125 k on $6k spend but on resy Amex offers 100 k for $6k spend and 10x on restaurants on max $25k for 6 months. Which one do you think is better ?

Whichever one allows you to get the greatest # of points based on your spend. I'd personally go for the 125K offer because I spend very little at restaurants right now.

Another video suggestion would be for online meal delivery. I don’t see much good content on it. I ordered blue apron and used BoA custom cash with 3% online option, but different meal services code differently. Some cards have special offers like AE blue cash for Home Chef. I wish Citi custom cash, US Bank cash+, or similar card offered a 5% category choice for this.

Underrated from Discover: If you call and ask for extra cash back you will be transferred to another team and ask for extra cash back on spend. @@alolansandshrew1756 - No product change. Applied for the 1st one directly and same for the 2nd one. Didn't use the 1st one for cash back; rather, I took advantage of the 0% APR offer for 15 months. I plan to use the 2nd one for the cashback match, but won't receive it until summer 2024.

@@MarkReese This is great! The reason I ask is because I literally just applied (and was approved) for the Discover It Cash Back a couple of days ago. When you say you didn't use the first one for cash back but rather took advantage of the 0% APR - is there a link between these two? As in, if I take advantage of the 0% APR for 15 months, do I not get the cash back match or something like that?

@@alolansandshrew1756 - With most credit cards, if you use a 0% APR offer for BALANCE TRANSFERS (as I did), then the transfer itself earns 0 rewards and purchases made on top of that transfer usually get charged interest. If you get a 0% APR offer for PURCHASES, then there's no issue.

Does the bofa customized cash rewards count Amazon as part of the online spending category? If so, wouldn't it make more sense to use the 5.25% cash back category on this card for Amazon purchases if you aren't concerned with the other benefits that having Amazon prime gives you? This is just some brainstorming, I don't buy a lot from Amazon. If we count the $139 Prime membership fee as an "Annual fee" for this card, then you would have to spend almost three grand just to break even from the 5% cash back bonus.

Not sure, I haven't tried it. The card earns 3%. It's only 5.25% if you are in the Preferred Rewards program with $100K+ in assets. That's not the case for me, so it's still 3%. Furthermore, you'd pay the same $139 Prime fee regardless of which card you have.

We usually average $300-$400 in cash back per year just on the amazon card , so that definitely covers the prime membership fee. Plus i love prime video

@@MarkReese That's a good point. Having preferred vs not having preferred is certinaly the make-or-break for bofa cards. As for the Prime fee, the hypothetical situation I have created is for someone who is purely interested in earning cash back on Amazon purchases, with or without having Prime. Well actually that situation would not be hypothetical since I am that person 😆 In my case I think that the 3% without having to pay any annual/membership fee would actually give me more cash back overall.

If you have the grandfathered Customized Cash Rewards you can get 3.3% if you have say, a $1,000 CD, Checking and or Savings account with the 10% "relationship" boost. Though it does not work on people who have signed up recently with the Visa. It was maybe? only on the Mastercard version or grandfathered when it was just called the Cash Rewards with some crossover date.

I just got my 2nd Discover It card in the mail from a new design offer, still in first year. Idk what to do with my old one other than chop it... Also, Discover sent me a email last month for a bonus restaurant 5% activate category in Q3 "Earn 5%. Family of 3 that takes at least 1 big trip overseas to Asia Pacific from the midwest. Chase Freedom Unlimited - 1.5x catch-all Chase Sapphire Preferred - transfer all UR points here for 25% and/or transfer to Hyatt for redemptions of 2-4ccp..Main travel card. 3% on dining and drugstores and doordash subscription which I use occassionally. Chase Hyatt - 4x on Hyatt stays, Discoverist Status, and One free night annually, basically pays for itself if we stay at one Hyatt property a year, which we frequent Hyatt's as our preferred hotel chain. (I.e. 12,000pts for a $500 USD hotel stay at Hyatt Regency Cit of Dreams Manila, Philippines) Chase Freedom Flex - 5% quarterly rotating (Wife) Chase Amazon - 5% on amazon and wholefoods purchase BoA Custom Cash - was my grocery card at 2% but moving this to 3% on either home improvement or gas (New) Cap1 SavorOne - 3 % cash back on grocery purchases. I have the Amex Gold and have 100,000 MR points but honestly realized it doesnt fit my redemption goals because transferring for flights and playing the timing game is annoying, especially when i have 3 of us i need to book flights for internationally. Might use these points for some domestic travel somewhere
