Loved the question about what captured your imagination for flying. For me, I was 4 years old and my uncle was a Delta mechanic in Chicago and he sat me in the captains chair. I looked at my uncle and Father serious as anything and I told them “I am going to be a pilot when I get big”. Sure enough I got my PPL my junior year in high school as a 17 year old. Have loved it ever since. Now I am only an x-plane pilot until my medical issues are resolved. Cheers mate!

Great video Stef! Regarding the question as to your favourite lounge, when I did my trip from the UK to Australia in September/October this year we flew Cathay Pacific business so used the Cathay lounge at Heathrow, I would rate it as pretty good. We had a four hour layover in Hong Kong on the way out to Cairns and used the Pier lounge and on the way back to the UK we used the Wing. Thought that they were both superb lounges. However I have to say that the worst lounge we encountered on our trip was the Qantas international lounge at Sydney, it was overcrowded, we struggled to find two seats together, many of the seats were lacking power points within easy reach and the choice and quality of food was dire!

The 'Ultimate' aircraft for me would be a PBY Catalina, converted inside to be a 'Gentleman's Residence'. Couch convertible to a bed in one bay window; Swivel armchair in the other. Gally and loo of course elsewhere.

Thanks really enjoyed this your getting just smoother every upload and re landings over 30 years and sometimes ask myself what just happened there????? Rare but happens to all of us. Just a hint for new flyers I videoed all my wife’s training landings she and her CFI would watch and both claimed helped greatly to help her understanding and improved her landings amazingly.

Hey Stef, have enjoyed your content and as like others, was curious about your "other life". But your comment about flying for a career prompted me to write this... I am a professional pilot and although I'm paid to fly it's always someone else's schedule. I'm inspired and somewhat envious of your flying, going where you want, when you want to enhance what you already enjoy. Life's choices are just that, if you hadn't made that "stupid decision" so long ago then you probably wouldn't have done any of this and a lot of people wouldn't be enjoying this marvellous channel! Although you probably already knew that.... Just remember - blue up, brown down and safe flying.

Hey QuickStop, thanks for this comment. I know had I gone into commercial aviation I’m sure I would have had a happy career. I know many commercial pilots now, and I have the utmost respect for them. Blue up, I’ll remember that, unless I’m flying over the Bass Strait 😅 Thanks mate.

Hey Stefan, great video as always! I'm curious about your accent, because having been brought up in the UK like you and having moved abroad (admittedly I don't live in a country where English is commonly spoken so that may play a part) did you have a British accent before you left and developed an Australian flavour afterwards or were you always slightly mixed in your speaking? I'm curious because my friends at home have already noticed my language has changed, perhaps not in the accent but in the phrasing I use. In this country there are many false friends with English so I've basically given up correcting people 10 times a day and instead embrace their interpretation, because usually it's close enough that in reality it wouldn't throw a native English speaker off but they would find it amusing. It feels strange to go back to my English friends having lost the ability to use a certain portion of my language, and I wonder if, even on a smaller scale, you experience the same thing? To put all this into context, I would be incredibly surprised if my local friends could read this and understand it in its entirety despite the fact that we only converse in English, to give you an idea of the English level I'm talking about.

That's not really my strong point to be honest. I'll leave aircraft building to the experts like Steve or JP. But I'd like to fly a Vans aircraft to try it, they look like fun.

Hey Stef , I love the giveaways but can you please use something other than gleam to conduct the giveaway. I always find it hard to enter on gleam.
