The reMarkable version 3.8 Beta is here. It has a handful of new features, with the biggest being the ability to draw straight lines and proper erase functionality. They also added the ability to created interactive checkboxes while in typing mode. There was one good surprise and one feature I would like to see baked further before final release.

I really wish they would extend the hold-for-straight-line gesture to circles. Being able to make perfect circles would be fantastic.

Right now it feels as if the hardware needs an update to allow for the software to have room to grow. A faster processor and higher resolution screen would be awesome updates and give the RM platform room to grow. PS - A backlight would also be a nice to have for low light
@jamieredgate602
@jamieredgate602 6 ай бұрын
A back light would require an additional screen, resulting in your stylus being 2mm further away from the writing surface. I think this would break the illusion of the writing on paper feel. Which is one of the reasons that make Remarkable great. Just buy a book light and clip it on the side. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No need for a backlight, Jamie pointed this out and even if she didn't, you'd think you'd know this. I'll be quoting from the dipshit who calls himself a president "Come ON!", then trips and falls, lmao!

On the check box feature. In my opinion, if you’re going to add a checklist feature, you need to be able to draw a box with the pen, hold for a second, and then it turn into an interactive checkbox. It’s cool to be able to check things off, but having it only available only with the folio feels odd to me. Too much time going from folio to pen when really, I can make a list with my pen without the feature, or on my phone.

Waiting for my update to 3.8. Love your demo of the straight line feature. You remarked that you could not change the location of the beginning of the line as you were holding the end of the line, having straightened it. But it seems, based on drawing a line (straight or not) in earlier software versions that you could easily select the whole line and just reposition it, lengthen or shorten it, and rotate it any way you like.
@BrandonKBoswell
@BrandonKBoswell 8 ай бұрын
Yes you are correct. I was just referring to while drawing it. You can definitely lasso and then rotate or resize.

In version 3.8 of the companion computer app, the checkbox and bullet options for type form selection now works, too. This is great. As a student, I type advance reading notes into new notebooks on the computer app before class, then use the reMarkable 2 to take handwritten notes on those pages during lectures. Also, the school has a wifi log in page, so I use wifi sharing on my cell phone to connect the reMarkable 2 to the cloud during class.

I'm currently looking into getting a digital notebook and I'm surprised they didnt release this with basic drawing capabilities that something like ms paint has(minus color-oriented features). Instant straight lines that can also snap vertical or horizontal and geometric shapes seem like a must for something being sold as a digital notebook. Your video was very useful in helping me decide whether or not remarkable is a potential buy for me. Thanks

It's funny because this video sort of summarizes exactly how I feel about the reMarkable - love it, lots of amazing things I can do with it, but I'll be damned if I can get it to function without being a little bit buggy every time. Acknowledging gestures I didn't mean to make, closing out accidentally, not getting the straight line function to work (I've learned it doesn't like short lines, so if I want a short line I make a long line and then pull it back). I hope this is a launching point for more intuitive use of the tablet.. would be amazing to get an option to draw squares, circles, and rectangles.

If you use the music notation template and draw some notes perhaps, what happens if you save as text? Does it transform the notes as "machine drawn" or do they remain handwritten? I love this device but no light is a bit of a bummer.

So the selection eraser had this exact behavior well before the update. It was only the regular eraser and the stylus eraser that had the masking nature. It’s more jarring when you erase, then select>move a stroke, cause this ghost erase will still be present. One of the reasons why I stuck with the Marker non-plus and didn’t get something like the Jumbo. Also, in the update 3.7, they now let you control about 90 percent of the UI with only the folio, and a shortcut to access the Document Drawer(which was a HUGE QoL feature) and open the notebooks. The Folio now feels better implemented

I have a refurb on order. Currently have an older iPad Pro with the pencil that I’ve been using for drawing. However, I’ve been eyeing this device for a while and finally pulled the trigger. And while I don’t think it will replace my iPad, I do look forward to sketching with it. I see update 3.9 addresses some issues for us left handed users!! Hope it works well. Just to let you know that if a problem occurs with your Remarkable 2 during warranty period ,they will replace your device with “new one”.The problem is that it’s not gonna be new one but refurbished one that as they said “is almost good as new”.Dont believe me,go check their policy or contact their team with question.

This RM tablet has so much potential and also a lot of room for growing in my opinion as they was once one of the top when they announced it back in the day but the competition are not sleeping either, they really should add the backlight on this, maybe also Bluetooth connection to be able to print something etc. 🤞🏻

As a fellow left-hander, I've noticed that the calligraphy pen favors the movement of a right-hander (I draw a horizontal line from left to right, it's thick. Right to left it's thin.) It would be nice if this were reversible for lefties! My writing would be more legible and artistic. What do you think?

Really like my Remarkable 2, and today I received the 3.8 update. I am surprised, however, at how well it can read your handwriting when converting to text. With mine, it often misses letters, even when I write neatly! And it *always* misses new lines - why can't they fix at least this? A written list turns into a jumble of words on one line. SO in summary, the tablet is great for handwritten notes, but handwriting to text still needs lots of work. Compared with a SuperNote, for example, which I tested, Remarkable is way behind in this area. Love the product, but this feature needs attention!

2:32 I really want to try version 3.8 for the improved eraser, but what happened is the main reason I stay in version 2.15. I guess you triggered the next page gesture (or it's just a bug since you moved your palm down). I use Ddvk hacks mainly because when I draw I prefer not to have gestures at all. Being able to undo or redo using two fingers is very handy but I can do the same thing and quicker double clicking the side button of the pen I'm using (with the hack of course). Even if an unwanted gesture happens every once in a while, for me, it's enough to put me off of whatever I'm doing so I think it's against the philosophy of this tablet about "less distractions". I think this should be optional, just like in Ddvk hacks, with just a button added to the menu to enable or disable gestures at will. Then when I finish a drawing I turn gestures again to be able to turn the pages of a book or to move around the menus as usual. I wrote about this to the Remarkable team more than once. Hope they take this into consideration someday.

great video.. Remarkable 2 is great hardware and still the leader in terms of design and battery life etc. However, they seem philosophical stuck in the tablet just being a notebook replacement. In summary, their software features comes across as patches of MVP testing. These are actually 2 really good features but again missing that integrated approach to building a productivity suite. Maybe they could allow typing text on documents, at least allow custom templates etc.

Crikey - if that's as good as it gets I'm going to get the Boox instead of this laggy, buggy and downright unpredictable device. It seems to constantly 'have a problem' that needs to be worked around. It looks as though you can't actually write if you touch the screen with any part of your hand rather than just the pen-tip. How on Earth anybody can write like this I don't know - I know I can't. Soooo very unimpressed with this device, very disappointed as I'm now definitely NOT going to pay the premium price for what looks like a really frustrating and awkward device to use productively.

I think this person doesn’t understand e-ink displays. Comparing this to a full fledged tablet is a bit unfair. I think he saw the few bugs you encountered in your video and it turned him off. I’m guessing that stuff happened because of 2 handed shortcuts you have setup. I’ll likely be turning off all touch shortcuts because this stuff does annoy me lol
