I love how violently loving of nature Maokai's personality is. I hope he gets a fitting visual update at some point. He's one of my favorite tank champions.

As a Mao main I've always wanted to see Riot work more on him. Especially the more monstrous appearance that he exudes from being twisted by magic. Like, I wish they wouldn't have him walking but have him still be rooted into the ground, striding and writhing on the ground as he lumbers like the tank he is. Some design decisions I won't understand too much like the whole face on the gauntlet thing. Twisting branches and the appearance of weight to his model would really solidify his role in the game and I would assume it would also help draw out the more monstrous approach to his design.

I do hope they add the version of Maokai we see in the Ruined King game into League. It looks so cool, and much more “Nature God-ly” than his current design.

3:30: Does anyone else wish people didn't always associate "nature" with maybe two or three biomes? Nature isn't just forests and swamps and coral reefs; it's the dry deserts which no man sees point in crossing, the plains where megafauna fearless of hunters still roam, the open seas empty of boats and most fish, and yes, fields of stone and clay uncultivated by human hands. Nature isn't one specific thing, it's the absence of a very abstract thing. There are absolutely valid reasons to prefer an island covered in trees and flowers over one covered in rocks and sand, but "it's more natural" ain't one of them. 7:00: ...Isn't that the spring that a rotten corpse begging for death was just dunked into? Eww... 11:30: My first impression is more "wood golem" than "treant". (Heck, if you took away the color I'd probably think "stone golem" first.) That works for an artificial construct, but for a nature spirit...it should look like something _natural,_ not materials artificially deemed "more natural" deliberately shaped into a given form by human-like intelligence, you know?

Btw Twisted Teeline got reworked in 2012. Before that rework, it was Zaun themed.

At first I was like "this is excellent, I disagree so much!" and then you kept talking about other examples of treants and pointing out his glove-hand and I was like "this is even more excellent, I agree with you somewhat now!" (The excitement expressed by using exclamation marks is due to 1) in Latvian grammar exclamation marks are more common than in English; 2) Maokai's my main. To the "doesn't look like a nature spirit" point I disagree because - what's a nature spirit supposed to look like? Basically like the carved figurines of yestertimes. And Maokai to me looks a bit like red and blue buffs, except a bit more advanced and made of wood not rock, so yeah. what's the deal with all the jungle monsters?

Honestly now I really want a nother VU for Maokai that makes him more treelike. I mean Ivern is also covering the theme of a treant,so that would actually help to differentiate the 2 a bit more thematically.

They could at least make him look like his splash art. His color isn't even right. His splash art looks so cool and actually looks like he's from the Shadow Isles

While you were talking about the diablo example you mentioned how it lacked anatomy and wasnt symmetrical and I can see where they tried that a little with the difference in size between his arms. But as you said, it's far to polished and smooth to feel right.

I doubt they will obscure his face. I think riot would want people to be able to connect to their champions regardless of their humanity or affiliation, which is something faces, or at least eyes, do best. I think we can only hope that they strike some kind of mid-ground.

I feel like the ruined king tried to burn his lifeforce to undo the life giving enchantment, but by drawing on a dark artifact for power the spell spread and reversed the power of the blessed isles themselves, as well as the binding magics on all the artifacts that kept them from exploding and or degrading and or reclessly destroying things. Also what if they made the hand less of a wooden hand and mofe of a large rock with sinue like vines and branches growing around the rock so it can be weilded as a weapon and a hand, purely to preserve visual language
