In my State, the police call CPS who scoop them and take them away. Then you spend your time trying to get them back.

#1 - Don't ever talk to any CYS/CPS/CFS person on the phone, ever. Voicemail is a thing. If you answer without knowing who it is then as soon as they identify themselves just say "I don't have time to talk right now, please call back later" and hang up. When they call back send them to voicemail. They will leave a phone number saying that it's an emergency and you need to call them back right away. It isn't. Wait until after working hours, call back and leave a message with your name and email and tell them to contact you that way. They will resist, but see #2. #2 - Don't ever deal with any of the above in any non-objective format. This means that all communication must be in writing, and all interactions must be recorded (audio & video). They will resist this and say it is against the law or their policy. They are lying and trained to tell you that. They are government agents performing their duties in public, and you are allowed to record in all 50 states. If they initiate contact otherwise don't say anything and walk away. If they ring the doorbell don't answer it (see #3). Remember that anything you do not have objective proof of is your word vs. theirs, and they deal with the courts and judges all the time. #3 - Don't ever let them in your home. If they had a right to be in there they wouldn't be knocking, the PD would, and the PD would have a warrant. #4 - Don't let them talk to your children alone if possible (some states/schools will ensure there is an adult in the room, some won't. If you live in a place that will allow them unsupervised access to your child(ren) you should consider moving). #5 - Don't be in a hurry to respond. They have a limited amount of time for their investigations otherwise they are REQUIRED to declare it unfounded/cleared/closed (terminology will change depending on locale). They will tell you that it's an emergency and go for a sense of urgency. If it really was an emergency they would show up with the PD & a warrant (see #3). #6 - Don't let them get away with cutting corners. Look up the CPS laws in your state and make them follow them. A big one that is often overlooked is that they are REQUIRED to give you a copy of the complaint and all documentation surrounding it if you ask, but you have to ask in writing. They don't tell you that, and it takes them time to process that (see #5). #7 - Once they do issue a finding, challenge it. They are required to tell you the appeal process, but (again) only if you ask in writing. Make them defend their decision. A lot of them can't or get caught making judgements and setting requirements they are not qualified to make or set.
