If you’re broke, keep your head up. I know it’s tough to face this situation in life, especially when you still have dreams you’re trying to pursue and goals you want to accomplish. When the bank account reflects hopelessness, that’s a difficult place to be. I’ve certainly been there.
There's a way out, though. Here are 5 steps to take when you’re broke:
1. Don’t Lie.
2. Take immediate action.
3. Ask for Help.
4. Save 10% to 20% now.
5. Retool.
Get the full video training, transcript, mp3 download, and sharable quotes of this episode over at: brendon.com/blog/when-youre-br...
You'll also find previous episode links there that will help you in this situation, from how to make more money, to how successful people think, to how to attack life's challenges with grace.

No tv, no going out, sold everything to pay bills, doing art for money but no local buyers, use free time to learn to self publish or paint, advertise for weekend work, learning new skills at my job, and trying to get a 2nd job to catch up. Not many options left, but to be happy and grateful I am not back on the street.

I recently received a settlement from an accident, the lawyers, friends, and family kept telling me to get a passport and go on vacation. Instead, I took the money and paid off all my debts except my car. But I did increase the amount of payment so I will pay the car off a year early. Believe me, it was painful, but I only have my cell phone bill, cable, and the car. Thanks for confirming what I did! I felt terrible at the time, I thought I was wrong!

Love you, Brendon. This needs a Part 2. Most people who went through "broke" already know what you mentioned here. This helps the person "going broke" - - a Part 2 for people with PTSD who were broke and now are starting to get on their feet, to trust the 'coming back process ' will help many. A couple of us were just brainstorming on this type of crisis training this morning. Thanks.

@lindsyfish6704

I disagree with Mr. Burchard's method in this instance. I can see this working very well for someone who has those extras to be able to trim off, or has been in money in the recent past, but isn't now. A lot of us don't have those extras to trim off. We've already done so. We're in the cheapest apartments we can find, we budget to within an inch of our lives, we sell our cars, we do everything we can to make the rent and it's still not enough. "Cutting the extras" won't help someone in that situation. There are no extras to cut. I also disagree that giving up hobbies for "retooling" is necessary. Keeping hobbies is a very necessary part of maintaining mental health ESPECIALLY when you're miserable and broke! It can also be a useful supplementary income, depending on what the hobby is. When it comes to "retooling", in my area people who go to bookstores and grab a glass of water and read a book get kicked out. Libraries are better. Online learning forums like Udemy, Khan Academy, MIT Open Courseware, Coursera, etc. are also available at no cost, and don't require getting kicked out of the bookstore.

I graduated last year with masters degree in computer science and unfortunately I didn't find a single job (i live in kuwait) it's been a year that I'm jobless and broke. I was depressed and felt like I'm a loser cuz i was top student in my class and not finding a job really got me... i have found a job as sales associate few days back cuz i really need to be financially stable , this video made my day. Cuz now I don't feel bad for the job i have, and definitely will save up money. Thanks brendon 💚

This question might be embarrassing but i was wonder does this happen in US that ppl with masters degree don't find a proper job?

Shima D That sadly does happen, and students end up in debt because they can't pay for their student loans

it happens all the time. my friend got his masters and was only able to get a job at as a parking lot attendant. in your situation, I would do some research on what computer skills are needed over the next 5-10 years in your country and work on developing those. that should help you land a better job. I'm doing the same thing right now here in the US.

Dam this LITERALLY hit me HARD! I feel like Brendon was talking directly to me. Because everything he said you shouldn’t I would. I look at my bills & ignore them. I was scared & lost & didn’t know what to do. I would go out and drink to ignore all the problems. Be in the same cycle. But I’m now doing better than ever ! Thank you for changing my life !!

dude I watched your video and found your channel for the first time today and I gotta say I love you, man. Funny but real at the same time not condescending at all. I've done all of your tips and I was hoping for something more tangible and more immediate but you're right, I can always learn even more skills and just basically do more.

You can really tell Brendon is coming from a place of sincerity and love. I Honestly believe he cares about the people he tries to help. This is solid information that’s not easy to tell someone it almost hurts their feelings but they need to hear it. I’ve listened to tony and so many ootjer life coaches over the years and they’re amazing and I’m by no means saying Brendan is better but he is different he gets straight to the point and he doesn’t talk about his self a lot it boast he just gives out info. I’m gonna use this info and run with it. I judged him at first because he was on an ad I thought he was trying to sell me on something but now I see he’s just trying to sell us on our selves. Thank you Bren!!!

After watching the video till the very last second, I'm must say this: Dear Brendon, thank you so much for this honest to heart video. I'm all the way from Egypt, I suffer from schizophrenia and can't function properly in the society, I don't have a job for more than two years. Your words actually gave me hope and re-wired my brain somehow. Thank you again as I can sense honesty and empathy in your words, which is something I don't feel towards many. ❤
