Too bad we didn't have the technology that's available today when I was in the Navy (1987-1991). Deployments would have been so much easier to deal with. I had a ton of cassette tapes and my Walkman w headphones to keep me musically entertained. CDs weren't even out yet or cell phones. You said deployments are now 7,8, and 9 months? They were 6 months when I served unless the ship got extended. I can't imagine a 9 month cruise..

Thank you for your service!!! I appreciate you taking the time to help others beginning their service. Great advice!!! I'd add a multitool, and a headlamp to the list. Also other good backup music sources are cassette players/or cd players. I love movies, music, and reading too.

Thank you for this video, my son goes to boot camp in June, and I'm trying to get alot of info for when he goes on deployment. Also that way I can send him extra stuff I his care packages. Usually what you’re scared of is the best thing for you to grow. Will you work hard? Yes. But the pros out weigh the cons. I contemplated for years but I finally did and glad I did

Another tip on electronics, make sure the automatic offload app feature on your phone is turned off lol

Haven't been deployed, but based on your list, I would add baby wipes or some sort of wet wipe. It sounds like the conditions are not hygienic on a ship. There's a gentleman on a different KZfaq channel talking about showering while the toilets are clogged and black water spilling into the bathroom floor due to the ship motion 😱

Of course. I’m speaking from experience I’ve been on 2 deployment I wouldn’t talk about it if it’s not something I can personally Vouche for , you learn to make space for things

When your on deployment how does Amazon get to you in the middle of the ocean?

Lol you’d be surprised what Amazon can do 🤣 lol joking, so all mail shipped to a military installation gets sent to a mass shipping area that gets distributed to each base no matter where they are the world, if on a ship it gets put onto a cargo type ship that eventually makes its way to us and we link up next to it and get all our mail food and parts hauled over

OS2, what did you learn during deployment that you never would've expected to come across? Im in A school for damage controlman. can i order snacks online? like clif bars? how does communication with your loved ones work? how often can you speak with them via FaceTime or phone call out on sea??

jungle bungalow Yes, you can order snacks online. As far as communicating with your family, there’s your ship’s email, they have phone cards available to use pay phones, depending on where you work you may have access to a POTS line (makes calls home without paying) but they’re usually in khaki offices, and some commands allow access to FB messenger. Hope that helped a little 💜

Great video. At 14:00, discussing mp3 players, you mention certain conditions where you can't use Bluetooth. Can the mp3 player still have Bluetooth as long as you aren't using that feature, or does it have to be one that does not have the capability at all?

What about like women's birth control, if they choose to be on the pill. Can they ask the base OBGYN for a year supplies, or like a 7-9 months supply or do they have to switch forms of Birth control?

Girl I brought like 2 suitcases 😂😂 and you get ready like normal , your berthing is full of other girls too so everyone’s gonna be doing their makeup etc
