If you have grown snapdragons let me know your opinion! Since Im new to growing snapdragons this year Ive read a few things were people plant them out before there last average frost, but then Ive also read people plant after their last average. My plan was to plant them out with everything else, but I'm curious if you have planted out early. Let me know!

Hey lady! I have a video idea! Since there are so many new suburban gardeners that watch you, can you do a small bed with varieties that can be direct sown and how much things cost? I think a lot of people have the misconception that to have a garden you have to have a lot of space and money. It would be so cool to share how much you could grow in a 4x6 bed with minimal investment. Just a thought! Love what you’re doing!!! You’re educating and inspiring so many!

I live in Southern Illinois and I thought surely, with it being April, I would be good to get my onions out this week and we're dipping into the low 30s and upper 20s at night this week. Hopefully this weekend will be a good time for me to get them out there.

Last year we had an unexpected freeze come just days after I planted out my onions and it got into the teens. It killed my onions back to the ground and I thought I lost my entire crop, but a couple weeks later they had all pushed new leaves and were doing fine. I ended up having a great onion harvest!

everything looks great. My broccoli are half dead after a unexpected deep freeze. I have however a single spring onion, that i purchased from the store and just stuck the white part on the soil after using the green part, and it has survived the 100F heat of summer, along with being under 8 inches of snow, 100% unprotected and uncared for all the winter. At this point I think it is indestructible and its background music is "I'm a survivor"

I’m in NW Indiana zone 5. I am notorious for planting early. One year I planted everything on April 1st, our last frost is may 15th. That was stupid. Been caught by very cold weather several times. Did the same thing you did. This is interesting, A couple years ago I had peppers out and they got frost bitten down to the ground. Disappointedly, I had to go and buy peppers, it was too late to start over. But the cool thing was, a couple peppers I left in as a test. They survived and came back just fine. (But they did have a couple leaves left alive) In fact, they all came back and caught up to the ones I transplanted in new. I didn’t need to replace all of them after all. The roots must’ve been good. Side note, Broccoli I have had until the temperature got to 4° one night in the fall. I touched the leaves and they crumbled like glass. It was really weird. And I do have kale that has been surviving the winter now because it’s not getting as cold as it used to as long period of time I mean it usually dies down, but the bottom will sprout in the spring, which never happened when we had colder seasons. One year I had a whole plant survive. And we did get some single digits, but just not for long enough.

So true on being adaptive…. Planted 109 onions a couple weeks ago, they were from seed and beautiful but I used soil from a tub that over winter rotted and ended up rotting my onions 😢

Your garden survived the cold great! Putting the frost cloth on and off is definitely a task i least like, but so worth it. I love the huge size of your metal beds and haven't been able to find a large size to replace my very old wood in ground beds. Can you please tell me where you ordered them? Thank you.

So I was told that pinching your snapdragons is a good idea. Promotes more side branching with more blooms. Laura from Garden Answer talked about this in one of her latest videos. She is an amazing person to watch when it comes to flowers.

So glad to see that your lettuce and brassicas survived that cold snap. My lettuces were hit last night with only 29F and a light frost but they don't look as good as yours. It shows that using the row cover works. I am sure that your onions will bounce back too. It is almost impossible to kill an onion. I have some scallions that overwintered down to -24C / -11F and are growing strong now. Good video!

I'm in Kansas too & experienced that nasty weather earlier this week too. I was gone & didnt get anything covered. I was pleasantly surprised not much at all got nipped. we had 1-2" of snow with drifts. Maybe the snow coverage helped. Where did you get the EZ straw? Online or local store? I have not had success with farmer grown, baled straw locally. Thanks!

Wow! Y'all got cold! We had cold temps but not as low as you. I can't believe you had sleet! I'm a little scared this year because I had a really good year as far as pests last year. I'm afraid of expecting the same for this year because I know every year is different. My pests I had to deal with were deer and ants!

Quick question, I want to use the square foot garden method with string in my metal raised beds but have no idea how to attach them since I can’t just add a a screw like I do with my wood raised beds. Any ideas?

Hi Bre. I notice the large bags of soil you use to star your seeds. Is that a seed starting mix? I am very new to gardening and all the reading I have done says to use on that. Any help would be appreciated. Those bags are small and expensive.

I would think that is 40 lbs per shelf. I would check on that.
