Do you know when you said "some blue eyes have a yellowish circle around the pupile"? I have that but I have brown eyes with a green circle around my pupiles. My dad has green eyes and my mom brown eyes.

Very helpful. I have that yellowish ring and blue/green eyes. But no brown. My mother had very hazel eyes and my dad medium dark brown. The color shifts esp when I wear olive or gray green. Really strange. Almost a perfect match at a distance. I would like to figure out what color will pull out the blue to more aqua. I see it sometimes but it is a bit muddy unlike the olive. You have given me lots of insights and tips. I never really realized that some people do not have a dark ring around the outer iris. Thank you so much.

I love that she uses neutral terms so you never come away from her videos feeling like a feature of yours isn't as pretty or attractive as another. We all just have different features, none are inherently better than the others! This was super helpful for what colors I should use to enhance my eye color thank you!

I kinda hate how she says muddy, ashy, dusty, and dull when describing softer tones. And the way she says it emphasizes like "disgust" (sort of? idk what word I'm looking for). I know she doesn't intend to make anyone feel insecure but the way she describes richer tones seems to have a more positive connotation. And it's interesting because she has a softer tone herself..

My eyes are really dark brown, black. With sunlight they get a little gray tone, if you washed a black shirt too many times and it the color gets faded black.

dekhimera my boyfriend has those! And has described it that way too lol! They don't do that honey pool thing in the sun and look better with indirect sunlight. They give me organic vibes like tree bark or wet soil with a lot of clay, it's very rejuvenating and comforting to look at, I'm sure yours look just as wonderful too, it's just about how the viewer frames it(:

This is my favorite color combination on a person :) I am ashy blonde with blue eyes and warm-toned skin, but I mostly find people like you or with darker skin beautiful. As some other people said, brown eyes look very warm, that is why I love them.

My 6 year old granddaughter has almost violet eyes. Her eyelashes are thick black and so long that they look like false eyelashes. People always comment on how beautiful her eyes are. She has long curly hair with dark eyebrows and beautiful fair skin. She is petite and just a natural beauty. She has Scottish, Swedish, German , and Polish ancestry. Quite the mix. Her Dad has blue eyes and my daughter and I have green. I am half Polish and the other half is English. The blue is probably from her Dad along with the eyelashes!

I like all eye colors. I find it surprising that such a small amount of people have green eyes, because in my family almost everyone has them(even my cousins). I like the evolution of my eyes, when i was a child i had crystal blue eyes. In my teenage years they had become bright green. Now they're becoming more yellowish. So im now somewhere in beetween green and yellow. It depends on the weather. Sometimes they're green, sometimes yellow, and in winter they even become hazel. I just find eyes in general really fascinating. It doesn't matter if they are blue or brown. Every color has something beautiful. Blue/grey looks mytserious. Black/Brown looks charming and makes a person look nicer...Great video :)

That happened to me too. When I was younger I had blue eyes and over the years they changed to blue/gray/green with gold around the pupil. It's bizarre. I don't even know what color my eyes are any more. I guess they are every color. Lol.

I was born with blue/grey eyes and I had them till I was 8 or so. They then turned to a really bright mossy/ emerald green. They look gold in the golden hour or sunset. I have brown/ gold sectoral heterochromia in my right eye though.

My mother had green eyes but they changed colors all the time so sometimes they would look grey and other days they just looked green mixed with blue. I was born with brown eyes but my eyes are changing to a hazel with gold and recently I’ve noticed green flecks in them.

I had a friend that had the most beautiful features. Her hair was just black, her skin kinda pale with freckles over her bridge and cheeks and then POW very bright and saturated green eyes with the most yellow color I've ever seen in the center. I swear, she was so pretty, she could be wearing a plastic bag and make IT look good. Such a shame she didn't think the same :(

I hate that people with brown eyes feel blue eyes are “prettier” and they wear blue contacts. If it’s for fun, I get it but brown is so lovely.

I have brown eyes and I find brown/dark eyes prettier. But that could also be because I'm Swedish, so blue eyes isn't as exotic for me as it is for people from certain other parts of the world.

I’m sure a lot of us could really use it 😂 I always felt like noses have a huge effect on people’s overall appearance. My nose is ok from the front but I hate it from the side, I wish there was something I could do about it besides surgery but that’s probably not possible. I’m so jealous of Arab people, I think they have the most beautiful noses 😖

I used to hate my pointy nose. I imagined how it would be so simple for a plastic surgeon to take the tip off. Now I am in my 50's and my nose is my favorite part of my face! My eyes look smaller and closer together. My lips have become thin and lined. My skin is wrinkling faster than my darker friends because I am fair (I don't smoke) and fair skin ages poorly. Yay to cute pointy noses!

The environmental light affects the color also. I have brown eyes, and when I'm in an indoors environment they generally look pretty dark...almost black. But if I go outside in the sunlight, they look more reddish ("chestnut" colored I've been told.) I can notice that myself if I stand in front of a mirror under a bright light or shine a light directly into my eyes

In case someone is wondering about the official terms about color, I got you! The terms are hue, value, and saturation. HUE = (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, ...) Basically, WHICH color is it? SATURATION = The lower the saturation, the more grey a color is. The higher the saturation, the more 'intense' the color is. VALUE = How light is a color? The lower the value, the darker the color.

Thank you so much, this explains something! After I watched this video, I ran around the house comparing the brown eyes of my siblings and I. When they looked at my eyes, they said there was a greyish haze over them, despite the colour - the HUE - being the same as my sister. Now I realize that we have the same hue and value but I have lower saturation.

Because we're clearly the same type of person, I hope you don't mind me adding: TINT = to add white TONE = to add white and black (gray) SHADE = to add black SATURATION = color intensity relative to _its_ brightness CHROMA = saturation, relative to the brightness _"of a similarly illuminated area that appears white or highly transmitting"_

My eyes are amber with a dark outer circle. I used to find them dull, always wanted the “deep chocolate” eyes everyone emphasized as beautiful for being brown. But, what I now find fun is my eyes change depending on my hair color. When I go more red-brown my eyes match, they go very red-amber. When my hair is more neutral brown, or with any kind of blond in it, my eyes go very yellow-amber. Lighting doesn’t matter. What i wear doesn’t matter. It’s 100% linked to my hair. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Kinda fun.

We can swap. I have dark brown eyes and no one ever compliments them. I bet everyone compliments your Amber eyes. Amber eyes are my favourite eye colour, I like Hazel too, depending on the shade. My Uber driver had Amber eyes once, and they were so stunning. I had to ask them if they were real lol it’s the only time I’ve seen Amber eyes in real life.

I was SO suprised you talked about blue(ish) eyes with yellow middles!!! I have those. It indeed is a bit tricky: they look middleish muddy blue from afar, but close they look rather bright with clear yellow and blue

Eden MOA In the East Asia, I don’t think we have that question lol Because most of us have “black (colored) eyes”. I didn’t know my eyes are called “dark brown” in English. My eyes look brown only when they catch the light.

I took a few pictures of my eyes-one Inside in bright light and one outside. My eyes are medium brown but can look a bit lighter depending on the light. I started playing around with editing them, and when I lessened the contrast, the photo of my eye taken outside had a lot of olive green in it. I was surprised. My father had light blue eyes and my mother dark brown eyes, and according to genetic testing, I had a 70% chance of having green or hazel eyes. So perhaps in the light my eyes do look a bit green, and I just didn’t realize it. Interesting experiment.

Hey Aly. My eyes are a very dark blue grey. Any time I wear purple or blueish purple colors, people tell me they look violet. This has happened since I was a baby and I have childhood photos were my eyes look like this even though I’ve never seen it in a mirror. They can look drastically different in different lighting and with different colors. Interestingly enough, I also have dark brown/black hair and fair skin like Elizabeth Taylor but I wouldn’t say I resembled her. Just maybe that the overall coloring has something to do with it.

My grandfather, descendem of West Prussians had violet eyes, the most amazing eyes I’ve ever seen in my Life. From far it seems he had dark eyes. Closer you could see how deep was the blue in his eyes, with a touch of violet. No one else in the família inherited that eye color and I’ve never seen someone else who had even close to his eye color.

This is very interesting and something I've never learned about so thank you for doing a video on this fascinating subject :) BTW, I love you in the blunt bob. Very classy. You mentioned violet eye color. According to my dad, I had violet eyes just like Liz Taylor when I was born. Of course, they deepened up rapidly and turned a chocolate brown. They seem to have gotten much lighter in recent years though and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this change? I've really noticed it in the past 2 years or so and I'll be 50 next month.

i have so many "mixed" colours in me: my hair contains a range of colours going from really light blonde to dark red so it kinda looks a bit golden overall, and my eyes are somewhere in-between blue and green. but when i was a kid my hair was so light blonde it looked white (it was also super curly, like corkscrews but now it's only slightly wavy) and my eyes were really light blue hhhhhh it's really weird. i'm only 17 right now so i'm kinda scared (but also excited) to see if they will continue to change or if i'll stay like this. i wish i could've kept the curly hair though, it was cool

Lots of useful info, thank you! Artists also call "muddy" colors "less saturated". Saturated colors are for example jewel tones. Maybe it would help to have this term used in your explanations as well.

Exactly what happened to me. When I was a teenager I always thought my eyes were just brown and I thought this was boring, but looking at pictures and different lights I suddenly had bright green eyes. Only then I realized that I have brown inner ring, a muddy green outer ring and a black circle.

I have brown eyes that are not dark, but not light either. They have a grayish, muddy look, with a darker grayish brown ring around them. I can't wear bronze or golds, or most browns. They make me look horrible. They look better with softer tones of gray, purple and blue. People used to try to tell me that I was either a Winter or Autumn, because of my darker brown hair and brown eyes. Turns out I am a Summer.

My brother is dating an albino girl and if you ever get a chance, their eyes are incredible in person. From a distance it looks like a rich purple (not blue-violet I'm talking rich glassy purple) but if you get closer you see its both blue and red at the same time. Its like how in pixel art if you put a bunch of blue and red pixels dithered together it looks purple from afar but up close u get the individual colours. Plus sometimes the light will catch her eyes and it'll glow red sorta. She's very beautiful. And if you ever get a chance, albino children in particular are the cutest damn thing you will EVER see. Little fluffy white heads of hair and these big purple eyes. Not to mention their lashes look like they're dusted in frost. Pictures don't even come close to giving their eyes justice. Plus their hair in the sunlight gleams rainbow like an oil slick if you look very close. (Before anyone comes in with the 'oh sure you know an albino i bet everyone clapped too', I went to a school for the legally blind. Albinism almost always causes vision issues in the person who has it. I myself have albinism but it's only in my eyes (also known as ocular albinism) so they're blue but my hair still has pigment (plenty too it's brown) and my skin is pale af but not as pale as my brothers gf. One of the teachers at that school was even albino. Basically, albinos aren't that rare if you go somewhere it makes sense for there to be a higher number. Namely a school for kids with serious vision issues.)

@@northstar2621 some populations are more related and the inbreeding make them most prone to some genetics problems as albinism. For instance in my country and state there's a place where the inhabitants are prone to get a albino child, but it's really hard to them because the light and sun is very predominant in there. Look it up for albinos from ilha dos Lençóis.

i have run into some amazing colored eyes over the years, my first crush after moving had violet eyes mixed with grey.I was so shocked at his eyes when i first noticed them i cupped his face and just was awe struck. Another guy i ran into i thought had contact lens in because his eyes were a bright golden amber and he had tan skin so they popped out at you. last but not least a friend of mine had heterochromia iridum where both of his eyes were green and brown but split straight down the middle in both eyes...he sadly got bullied for his eyes.

Your husband has very similar eyes to mine! I don't have yellow/gold by the center though and I do have a strong frame around my iris. When I put strong blue by my eyes (especially with eyeshadow/eyeliner) my eyes look warmer and almost more of a green-teal color. I wear a LOT of olive green and autumn colors, although my skin and hair colors are also super neutral. No one can tell what color my eyes are from farther away because they are that muddy grey-blue-sometimes teal color.

because your eyes are actual CLEAR it doesnt have a color per se BROWN EYES ARE THE ONLY ONES with color. if you slice it open you will find brown melanin. CLEAR EYES are like blue oceans and blue skies its an optical illusion (no pun, but pun). take home... ocean or beach water; =its not blue.. neither are your eyes

my grandmother had brown eyes with a blue ring outside of the pupil. You could see a brown pupil, the white, then a light blue ring. they were very unique and beautiful; I haven't seen anyone with this kind of eyes in my life and no one in my family inherited it, but we all have a dark blue ring attached to the brown

I have a mix of blue and green eyes. I've found using (free) paint chips from the paint/hardware store helped me determine my color. I grabbed a bunch I thought may be in my range and a few I thought were out of my range for comparison and elimination. Some of the chip shades were bright and some shades were a grayer version. Out of the 28 chips I brought home, I was able to eliminate half right away. With the other 14, there is definitely a theme of light turquoise-aqua-pale jades & mints....and more of a dark teal shade for the outside ring. I couldn't find just one that best resembles my eye color as there are several shades going on and my eyes seem to take on whichever color I put near it. It's a fun exercise. Thanks for suggesting it.

I feel you 😄 i can't figure out if my eyes are dark grey, greyish blue or dark blue. In my family we just call them blue, altough all of us have different shades.

I had blue eyes as a baby, then they changed to greenish and now they are a mix out of Blue green and grey (and one of my eyes has A little brown stripe)

I have very green eyes, framed in dark grey. My niece has exactly the same eye color. My mom was of Irish heritage, my dad German. Thanks Aly for your unique videos, I just love you and what you stand for!

My eyes are a combination between n.1 and 2: I have green eyes with just a tiny hint of hazel. Still, I can't understand why people keep naming these kind of eyes "brown", despite the fact that they're almost completely green, and the brown is only the 4% of the iris?

My eyes turns into deep green sometimes(sunlight, when I cry, and some other times..) but it mostly look like brownish yellowish. Have I light brown or dark hazel eyes?

Two questions, What about someone with pale skin, light blonde hair but dark brown eyes? Would they be high contrast? Can a redhead be muted in colouring? My eyes are a complicated colour green/grey/blue and my hair is more auburn than bright ginger. Thanks for the video. Xx

I think it depends on the majority of your complexion not just one aspect, so for your first example, I could imagine that you are soft in contrast but its hard to tell without any pictures

REQUEST: Aly, you should create an online quiz that the audience can be directed to by selecting a link under the description portion of your next video! You could make individual quizzes that test our knowledge on the topic or it can be in all in one quiz that has a little bit of everything you’ve taught us up to this point. It would be a fun and interactive way for you to engage with your viewers but would also help those of us really want to learn these topics! And I’m sure you could find a free online quiz creator that includes: multiple choice questions, uploaded images (this would obviously be most crucial!), as well as a section that pops up after an answer is selected that has an explanation as to whether or not the answer is correct, and why.

I think I'm in the 0 category. My eyes aren't something you notice very well. I have hazel eyes but the green is more of a moss green, green with yellow, with a dark black ring around the eyes and I definitely see the greyness in there. My eyes always look brown from a distance and you can only see the green when you get up close and in the right lighting. I also have ashy dark brown hair and pale skin.
