In India 90% of the customers dont have a knowledge on cars. People are buying cars bcoz neighbours and relatives bought that car. Driving dynamics, ride quality and among turbo engine VW group has the best option. If you want to succeed in India you have to play with emotions of Indians.

Main reason why these cars are not doing well is because their service is trash and their 2.0 cars are unreliable (they havent fixed the EPC issue yet ). You cant always blame the customer for not choosing them. Nobody wants to plonk big money on these unreliable cars.

We need 100 more videos like these!! Am a Taigun owner from Nov 23. First trip was Bom-Coorg-Bom. That said, It will be foolish for VW Škoda to exit India because though, they are doing great in the European markets, US and China not much. So only the Indian market offers them hope. They are certainly doing better than Honda India and the French cars. Some KZfaqrs (some being owners) should refrain from being judgemental about their exiting. They are screwing the company, existing car owners, new purchasers who are waiting for delivery and potential buyers even more. On the flip side VW should come out with a statement at the corporate level to allay any fears, to calm minds. My take.

India is an emotional market. You need empathy to understand it if you need to service the Indian middle class. The Americans and Europeans have not understood it or some like Honda are too proud to acknowledge it. It's not just a 'product' thing as you put it. It's the overall 'experience' for a customer that includes service touch points , parts, part pricing, service behaviour etc etc. these brands do not even make an attempt to broad based channel to cater to both sales and service.

I sold my Polo recently. Selling a high percieved value Car at much lower price than expected. Even I went to VW dealership to get it evaluated. They offered 1.25 lac for a 9 year old car. Alto sells for more than that. If they themselve cannot value their product, how can they expect the customer to do so. And on that day, I decided I will not buy VW car again. And they are wondering why they are failing in India.

It is a bit sad to hear the CEO saying - Their mistake was they over engineered cars for Indian market when they did not need to do it... Well.... by what definition are the MQB-A0-IN platform cars over engineered? has the CEO forgotten they had to fit in a 'more robust pump' in the words of Zac Hollis or they keep releasing software updates to fix AC issues and the brakes noise is termed as 'operational noise'. Some people call it the price one has to pay to own a VAG :) There is a recent video that was posted by Swayam on his channel - Travediction. He drives a Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI MT and has posted many vlogs.. right from his journey to Leh in his Slavia to many other destinations. He happens to be driving a Rapid 1.0MT as a loaner car from Skoda as his Slavia has gone in for a regular service. he admits on video that the AC of a 1.0 rapid is better than a 1.5 Slavia, the seats have better lumber support and lists down a few more quality related things that Rapid has but are lacking in Slavia. Terming that Indians don't need over engineered cars is quite shameful and trying to hide their own shortcomings by making such statements thinking that the customers will accept their subpar quality cars. The least Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra do is that their newer cars don't have basic issues like AC, brake noise, EPC errors. Not even speaking about the below par plastic quality as compared to a 20 lacs Hyundai or a Tata or Mahindra. Huh...

Being a volkswagen owner, i wanted to upgrade, when i saw taigun gt and compared it to a seltos or xuv 700. Size does matter.. for a family of 5 the taigun is cramped.. the engine and safety are the positives but when you spend 25 lakhs.. you expect more. I would rather buy a second hand tiguan, but the spares are an issue.. better buy an innova hycross at 35 lakh than putting 25 lakh on a taigun..

Here are VW/Skoda problems in India, 1. Service - Incompetent Service Engineers - The people servicing these cars have no clue what they are doing. There is a vast difference between company fitment and VW/Skoda service center. - Unavailability of Parts - Have noticed this multiple times, weeks of waiting for arrival of new parts, even in their 2.0 cars. - Cost of Parts - This I could argue is "You get what you pay for", but it is expensive. 2. Perceived Value - The brand looks like it's trying for customers in the Upper Middle Class only. These families have already gone through an ownership of a Maruti or a Hyundai, A family moving up the ranks would not tolerate the problems of service and availability of parts, as they already know what a good service feels like with Maruti and Hyundai. 3. The Cars (Point in case Taigun/Kushaq) - The final nail in the coffin are the cars itself, imho the cars lack "SPACE". There is just no "FEEL GOOD" space inside the 2.0 cars. The easiest example of a car with good space I would give is the Grand Vitara from Maruti or the Creta from Hyundai, even the Elevate from Honda, the Taigun on the other hand feels cramped, it feels like a Maruti Brezza or Hyundai Venue competitor. 4. DQ200 - I don't remember any other mechanical part from a car manufacturer feared by their customers than the DQ200 gearbox. VW should just drop it from mass market 2.0 cars. imho their Torque Converter gearbox was superb in the 1.0L GT Polo. they should stick with that for 2.0 mass market cars. the DQ200 has caused more damage to VW India than good.

@@ave220487 actually people loved it. See today’s demand for Used Ecosport .. people are ready to buy at a decent price but still it’s not available. The only reason why they went out was the government policies. If government would have supported Ford, VW then MS would have been out of business. For the government MS is a hen which lays golden eggs and pay them the money they demand. So obviously others who are not interested in paying them will succumb to such policies. Today we are hearing about VW, tomorrow it will be Hundal , Renault, Nissan, Citroen , MG . Everyone will have their day soon when they will either start looking for local businesses to partner with them or exit India. It’s very well said Grahak Jago else we will be forced to buy MS coffins.

I agree with explanations. Where it hit vw/skoda is costly products with less features and worst service..I myself own Polo, Rapid and now slavia. While dynamically better than honda City but third New products fit and finish and quality of material has gone down ..huge disappoint there. Seems all the product decisions are taken in Germany and not by India management. This really made them non competitive in indian market. Though personally my 1.5 TSI slavia is gr8 driving vehicle.

They have done enough cost cutting in terms of fit and finish for all their vehicles. After sales service and part are much expensive as compared to other manufacturers. They could have just localised their parts and engine components to reduce the cost. Just to give them an illusion of entitlement they haven't done any technology sharing with any of the Indian car manufacturers. Indian companies like Tata and Mahindra have worked on their design and engines in last one decade to make it affordable for the Indian mass buyers.

Volkswagen and Skoda have really gone down in terms of overall quality of parts . Cost cutting is clearly evident inside . The buttons and knobs are not as tactile as it used to be in Vento/ Rapid . The dashboard plastics are hard . Further these cars are prone to rattling noise , poor quality of seat upholstery , imagine a dummy sunglass holder for a car with top variant priced northwards 20 L . The EPC error , erratic behaviour of power windows, poor ac performance in 1.0 tsi 3 cylinder engine. One thing is extremely important to mention here that different studies conducted clearly depict that 3 cylinder turbo charged engines are lesser reliable as compared to their 4 cylinder NA counterpart. The absence of 360 degree reverse camera is a glaring omission.Until and unless Volkswagen/Skoda improves the quality and features of its cars it will go on losing sales day by day and finally go the Ford way .

Can you compare between successful brands and unsuccessful brands investment in the R&D and engineering department? All the companies that have packed up or are in the verge of it had "assembly" plants here whereas the more successful ones have some if not all the engineering as well here. This accelerates the design, validation and market infusion SIGNIFICANTLY. If Ford or VW had to do it, they will have to ask their parent company in a different country to design, validate, test, comply and then the indian entity will do the validate, test and release and this takes a SIGNIFICANT amount of time. When the market changes fast, you are left behind easily. Secondly, MOST of Indians are first time car buyers. Its an emotional buy for us. Most of the time, we evaluate the cars based on what others will perceive of us rather than what the car offers truly in sense of safety. Features like audio, interior bling, cladding costs very little when it comes to testing whereas crash testing, engine tuning takes a lot of effort, resource and money. Unfortunately, the koreans and japanese have mastered this art whereas the western world still puts in a lot of effort on the former, making cars that are built well and strong. They cater to a mature market but we are a market full of first time buyers. And this first time buyer market does NOT value safety and build as much as Bluetooth, ADAS and bling. And thats a huge difference.

VW Group only has themselves to blame for this, especially their Indian team. How can you launch a Tiguan or a Kushaq when they just look smaller compared to the Creta and Seltos? These Koreans are hiding their deficiencies in the product by sheer number of features and aesthetics. India is a very value-centric market, and if I'm spending 20 Lakhs on a car, I want the car to be a head-turner even when next to a Creta or Seltos. Ignoring the sub-12 Lakhs market is like shooting ourselves in the foot. These guys only want to cater to a certain section of the community who are enthusiasts or can afford cars beyond 15 Lakhs, but that percentage is very small compared to the entire market. Let's not even talk about after-sales services. Yes, it has improved and gotten cheaper, but it's still not enough. There's a certain elitist attitude from the dealership and the service center guys. They need to improve drastically to make a comeback in India. You can't just go around saying our car is 5-star rated in safety and catching up in every other aspect to your rivals. They'll catch up and outshine you eventually. It's just a plain stupid way of running a business

In fact Mahindra kept on playing with Ford and kicked them in the nuts at the very last moment. There are no synergies between VW and Mahindra or Tata. The brand and corporate philosophies, customer base, key product attributes etc are totally different. People should stay away from buying VW products for the moment as they might end up losing big time. @@KeshavaRaju08021980Friday KZfaq keeps deleting my reply but will try again. Miniscule market share, extremely narrow product line, dry new product launch pipeline (rumors don't count), less than 30% plant capacity utilization, higher overhead costs compared to industry average, average sales of 20-25 cars per dealer per month, very narrow customer base, looking to divest up to 100% stake, claim to be in talks with a company (Mahindra) that they don't have any synergies with and has a track record of screwing their JV partners (Ford twice, Renault once, Ssangyong once, Reva once etc.), VW itself has a disastrous breakup with Suzuki India, can't figure out Indian customer's needs, can't compete with the Japanese and Koreans on low cost and by diluting current product attributes they risk losing existing customers etc. Do you need more reasons?

This is what happens when you take customers for granted. Saying their cars are over engineered for India is nothing but Sheer arrogance. Instead of working on improving quality control they are giving such statements. I would want them to leave India now, it should make a remark globally how they failed in India in front of Indian and Korean brands.

Quality??? Really?? You are arguing vw about quality. Have you drive the vw virtus gt ? First try to drive it and you can actually feel that the cars are over engineered in terms of engine and handling. Indians people are fool. They are just running behind looks, size and unnecessary features like, music system, ambient lighting, heated seats etc etc
