Wow that's a great way to put it, I think that helps explain why they (and Min) are my 4 favorite characters in the series. Never really thought of it that way.

Perrin is genuinely my least liked major POV of the heroes. He’s a weak, boring guy for far too long for any payoff to really make up for all of it.

Tbh i wished we had more books with final power level perrin. His talents are really interesting but he develops them way too late and even a bit to fast at the end.

He ist always described as being slow or taking his time, so it kinda is in character. That being said, I really didn't enjoy reading him

Perrin does not describe himself that way, but people are flocking to his leadership. The two river people are the first to regard them as a their lord, eventhough they havent had lords in centuries

i guess it is a reread character. i only liked her arc after rand picks her up to make the "bonfire". the worst offence for me was when she and elayne were not using mats skills and resources in ebou dar. the only reason given is mat has a potty mouth and is indecent but at the same time they claim the world depends on the job. clearly one is more important and you can fix the other later.

Nynaeve is an awesome character, I already loved her but now on my second read I'm just blown away by how incredibly powerful she is right from the beginning and it never goes to her head. It doesn't corrupt her at and that says so much about her inner strength

I felt the middle of the series was a slog, but my second reread of the full series was an eye-opener for me - #thereisnoslog. I had actually feared the Faile captive section, and Rand's journey to Dumai's Wells, but it seemed to flow so well this last time.

@Chris George That's the real kicker though. If you started reading the series in the early years (I started back in '95), then you could be put off by the fact that characters could disappear for a book (which meant years of waiting to find what happened with them), but the repetitions of the descriptions were refreshing. If you read the series through from beginning to end, the pacing of the series makes a lot more sense #ThereIsNoSlog but the repetition can be a bit much. Especially since Robert Jordan masterfully wove little nuggets of exposition into some of those repeated description, so you're missing valuable information if you skim. The true genius is this; whereas #WheelofTime is by no means a perfect series, it holds unique challenges AND discoveries whether it's your first time reading it, or your fifteenth. Whether you read it as it was released, or all at once.

Yea, book 4 Perrin is incredible and also book 12-14 especially 13 but in between there's a certain stagnation.

Two rivers battle storyline is one I can read or listen to over and over again. And all of Perrins inner struggles at this time is so engaging

The inner struggles of Perrin are what continue to keep him my favorite character. I love Matt and Rand, but I just relate to Perrin!

I don't know.. I kinda wish Brandon would've just given Androls chapters to Logain seeing how long the series has been hyping up Logain with Mins viewing. The reason why Androl got POV chapters was so we could get insight into what was going on at the Black Tower. Why couldn't this be done with Logain?

Currently i hate egwene and my favourite characters are Tam,rand,mat and perrin. I hate the aiel they are evil idk if they will get better in the future or not? Also are the dream sequences important in this series or can we skip them?

@@marklinton4567 I felt the same way then. But then her dynamic with Rand is spectacular. She's the only one around him, for a certain amount of time in the next books, who has some sort of unpredictability. And she's the mysteries legend as well on top of everything. She's a quintessential Are Sedai, so to speak. But your response is totally understandable. Enjoy the books, buddy.

I loved Cadsuane, and don't understand the hate she gets. She handles Rand almost perfectly (other than Tam's reintroduction). To me, she's like an older Nynaeve in that she's incredibly powerful and knowledgeable, and doesn't put loyalty to the White Tower above everything else.

I love her interactions with Mat. But her arc ended so crappily. Like come on bitch, how can you see EVERYTHING you've seen and conclude "yep, Seanchan culture is perfect, wouldn't change a thing! Also our prophecies are clearly the right ones!"

The perspective written for Tuon is beautiful and honest and horrible all together… I love her because she is horrible due to her environment and beautiful because of her heart and that combination makes her an honest character

What a load of BS. If Tuon changed overnight, people would be complaining "OMG, she's so shallow." If Min remains her Truthspeaker... I'd love to know how that worked out... and with Mat her prince, general and babydaddy, her future is still changing.

I strongly disagree, by that logic people should stop honoring George Washington, Thomas Jefferson etc. who enslaved a large population of America. I think characters shouldn't be expected to completely get rid of their cultural background/upbringing and see the most modern and progressive way as soon as as possible.

I say leave the Sea Folk out of the show entirely. Forget the Bowl of the Winds, make the Shadow touch the world somehow that doesn't have anything to do with the weather, or something. But absolutely don't go near the dumb Sea Folk and their "plots."

But when you get to understand her underlying motivations and flaws a bit later on, it really puts her actions in a much more understanding and entertaining light. Just push through Lily!! I really like Faile too. When we first met her she was SO ANNOYING! But I really think when I was young I was a lot like her too. While the Saldean culture is a little intense, especially with the whole husband/wife dynamic, I really grew to appreciate her as a character. Her and Perrin were really perfect for each other.

Faile was such a selfish brat but she grows SO MUCH. She even reflects on it herself at some point. Super unpopular opinion: I think Faile AND Elayne AND yes, Tuon are underestimated in this tier list

@@martawolna6027 I think Matt beats Rand hands down, I actually disagree with Daniel here and think Rand fits the Mary Sue character perfectly - I don't think he earns his power, women throw themselves at him, and his "flaws" are cool and mostly thrust upon him due to his "condition" as opposed to real like Matt's feel. If your character can rarely ever be described as having done something awkward or cringey, I think you've written a Mary Sue

Lan all day every day, baby. He's been my sugar daddy since I read the prologue and Moiraine described his forearm as a rock. The more I found out about him the more I liked his arc and now I even have a horse in RDR2 called "Mandarb" 😁 Hes just a serial bopping addict - riding across the lands, bopping fools left and right. Bopped a myrddraal that time. Footmen, kings... doesnt matter. If Lan means to bop you, then bop you he shall.

That's a tale popular among the fans, yet he mostly does it himself. Most of the time, when he transitions from farmboy to leader then even king of there and there, she's not even with him. Even when she gets pregnant, it's because they spend....: One night together, he's been sleeping with Aviendha (once too, at that point), but mainly Min - who is, after a certain point, always by his side, for quite a number of books.

Egwene has some really great moments and character development in the second half of the series (really starts in the book you are on).

You will probably strengthen your views of Mat and Egwene, and flip on Perrin - I certainly did.

Perrins plot line is so good by book 5... oh you have no idea whats in store

Well Moiraine was an experienced Aes Sedai, who probably warded herself before dealing with Fain. Egwene at that point, wasn't even a Novice and often visited Fain without informing Moiraine.

I couldn't stand her Mary suing last 5-6 books, absolutely hate her and hated her pov. It would be perfect if she would be Suan puppet to manipulate with some Wise One's extra knowledge to show Suan that other nations woman's can be useful as well, so Egwene can be person to unite channelling woman, and she can still be channelling prodigy. But why teeneager would be ultimate manipulator who is always right and each of her plot is always working. Absolutely don't understand that. Leads to terrible character

I think that Egwene is one of the most hatable protagonists in the series. The only bad part of the resolution of her arc is that her redemption is precluded. She actually epitomizes the challenges that I have as a woman in reading Jordan's women characters. They are never handled as sympathetically as the men are, and, at times, I have felt the hatred for all of the women. I think that Sanderson does a good job of redeeming that flaw in the series/Jordan.

@Chris George I can see that. It was one of the hardest things for me on my first read through, where I felt that every single woman in the series was a manipulative and despicable b****. Some arcs evolve and make me love them (Nynaeve), others evolve and make me hate them more (Egwene), a couple are likable all the way through (I super identify with Min - I hate the way her arc (doesn't) resolve), and at least two quickly evolve from initially interesting to hated/invisible at the end (Faile and Berelain, and their conflict just underscores this).

I really hope the show gives us Demandred scenes throughout the series. Just Demandred in some far off land doing his thing so that we can actually see this incredible thing that he successfully pulls off that in the books just felt completely out of left field. It really jarred me, it felt like "who's this guy? Who are all these people and where the heck did they come from? Ohhh it's one of the Forsaken we've seen twice in 14 books, ok. Yeah I guess this is supposed to be really impressive? It just feels random" I think Demandred is a character with a ton of potential if done right.

In the authors note of the River of Souls short story, Brandon states that he wanted to put in an entire sequence of chapters chronicling Demandred's journey and rise to power in Shara. We'd sympathize and cheer him on as he would be portrayed as a mirror to Rand as a chosen one and hero, then only at the end would he be revealed to be Demandred and this was all buildup to fight the heroes and kill Rand. It was cut because it was too much to have in the last book, but Brandon says it would have fit well if it started during books 7-10(since it would be new and exciting when the story sorely needed it). That sounded so awesome to me, and I think this is something they could capitalize on in the show. I actually enjoyed his appearance and surprise in the final book, but I think it could have been a lot better if done the other way. One of the best things about Demandred(and most of the other Forsaken as well) is his presence and backstory as a character. The dynamic between Demandred and Lews Therin/Rand is one of my favourite in anything I've read. The whole Fallen friend/rival trope, and how he is always half a step behind Lews Therin at everything, which caused intense hatred and jealousy to develop has always fascinated me. Despite this, we never really see Rand and Demandred interact or be shown to be similar(whether in ability or actions). That always felt like huge wasted potential since he was the most interesting Forsaken to me, even over Ishamael. He was the only one of them who didn't just want power for power(or the end all of existence like Ishamael). He was essentially a 'hero' with one overarching and overpowering flaw. There is something profoundly human about that which I love in a character. Wouldn't want to have a drink with the guy though.

@@ccheyenne But that's what the Forsaken does though: they work in the shadows to undermine the light/build an army for the shadow. How is what Demandred has been doing throughout the series any diferent from Mesaana or Semirrhage? Demandreds entrance didn't feel out of left field at all for me.

A song of ice and fire might work but a lot of these fantasy series don't have enough well rounded characters to justify having a tier list.

I can understand that, Rand isn't my favorite character in the series (Mat is the real hero of the story, especially once he stops being an NPC in book 4, though Sanderson didn't do him justice in book 12, he got it right in the last 2) but you have to admit that he has the MOST character development in the series.

I love Tuon. She grows up in this ridiculously repressive culture and as an elite in that society she has no reason to change that status quo, but you can see her starting to do so anyway, because it would be the right thing. She gets Mat I think better than Egwene or Nynaeve, who grew up with him. And not just because he is a good battle commander. I like how Tuon notices very small things, like when Mat doesn't kill the snake and how his band of the red hand loves him not just because he wins battles, but because he really cares for his soldiers. She is extremely smart and she challenges him, but she not because she dismisses him as a fool like others do, she does so because she wants to test him. And in Seanchan culture to constantly test someone is actually a sign of appreciation, which Tuon also reflects on at some point.

Just cast Wil Wheaton in the show for instant cringe against the character
