For me, I watch movies to enjoy not to know who, where, what. I need to relax and just watch non complicated story. Uni is hard enough for me, I don't need to solve another mystery. John Wick is so refreshing to me because they show it all not imply it or slap you with text walls.

I think the thing with Perkins is that she wanted John for herself, but as we know, he met Helen while still working. I bet Perkins wanted him to cheat on Helen with her, but he didn’t go through with it, and Perkins has been bitter about it. That’s why she gives him the sultry looks she gives him and why she said “you were always a pussy.” It felt personal. Most people who know John would think the opposite.

I haven’t seen the fourth one yet. However, from the first three, it is pretty clear that the movies don’t try to be something they’re not. Straightforward story, intense action, not a lot of dialogue.

The John Wick character has the same personality with Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves IS John Wick. Both personas are men of few words. They also do not need any introduction. Everyone knows who they are and if someone actually didnt, theyd be an idiot. Wherever they go, they command respect. Both men are about focus, commitment, and overcoming adversity. We see John battle through an Army. Keanu is so commited as an actor he trained in shooting, stunt driving, and grappling. Aside from that he overcame many personal tragedies to re-emerge as one of the awesomest action stars we have today

I haven't poured much more than just the hours of the runtimes into them like I have Star Wars. I really need to do some rewatches. I remember hearing there was a spinoff show at one point, and I was like, "Wait, there's more to the Wick-iverse than just what's in the movies?" Having the amount of time as a show can also help make things clearer. I also hear there's going to be a spinoff movie called Ballerina. At this rate, half the world's population's gonna be dead. Assassins on jobs and then assassins killing assassins, nowhere is safe.

I cannot disagree more with you regarding JW 3 and 4. Those films are the biggest dogshit films I think I have ever seen. Like, taking two amazing films with good pacing and making the double-prolapsed anuses that were 3 and 4. Overly long fight scenes that are overly theatrical, overemphasis on racial stereotypes in villains rather than the iconic "through the looking glass" feel of 1 or 2. It almost gives a "see how the sausage is made", and it's neither compelling nor pretty. What makes JW 1 and 2 so good- is the surreality of having this underworld just beyond the "normal" view. And as our protagonist is an expert in the world and its rules, John acts as a sort of tour guide for the audience, who get a sense of "fish out of water". They also leave enough of the underworld a mystery, that we don't ever lose that feeling. Compare this to 3 and 4, and all of a sudden we are Harry Truman finding the edge of the map. And immersion is broken when you can see the end of the world. And a final element that makes 1 and 2 so compelling, whereas 3 and 4 are just... awful- the magical world is grounded by coreography which feels extremely real. From the way John moves, to the way he holds his gun in cqc scenes- every decision is made to make the violence feel less like "theater choreography" and more like "brutal real brawling". In 3 and 4, *all* of that reality is gone, in favor of bullet proof tuxedos and over the top choreography. So now the violence doesn't serve to balance out the fantastical world, it plays part in it.

What's with all this talk about John Wick being like the rare action movies, pretending that Mission Impossible and at the very least Fast & Furious franchises never exist?

9:00 "and a sympathetic character that we are rooting for throughtout the franchise" Are we though? He is the character that the movies are named for so he's not going to die, ever. But more importantly he is completely impervious to harm. Sure, he got hurt in the first movie but in 2 and 3 people simply cannot hit him even if he is standing still in the middle of a room surrounded by *trained assassins*. There is nothing to root for, every time JW comes across a badguy he simply pops the badguy in the head before the guy can do anyting. If he does have to do hand-to-hand combat with multiple assassins they politely wiat their turn to get killed. If they don't get killed immediately they pretend to be in a really bad shape until their buddy gets knocked out and then suddenly they revive and attack again. THe "he keeps getting drawn back in" is not a good stroyline, it's literally repeating the premise from the first movie over and over. Answer me this: if JW is such a good assassin who is feared across the globe, then why are so many other assassins so willing to die in an attempt at killing him for a few million dollars? And why do they all fail? At some point they show that even every other homeless person is actually an assassin and JW did not know this? And if they are so unrecognizable as assasins, why have none of them simply popped a cap in JW's ass as he walked by? Or did he never walk by a homeless person since the bounty was set? I am truely amazed at who people who are interested in writing can find this "script" good. Are you just blinded by the action (which is nicely choreographed but it has nothing to do with anything that reembles reality) or do you just like Reeves and anything he does has to be defended as a master piece? The thing with the dog was obvious from the start; last gift from girlfriend, so that dog dies at some point. An assassin can't do anything if he has to look after a dog. And he takes the dog personally so obviously he's going to get a new dog at the end. Predictable cliche.

Part two wasn’t even that good.

The first three movies are pretty average, let's see what the fourth one brings.
