It feels natural to follow that sort of a schedule for cool season. In fact, I do agree with it, but I’ve seen fert recommendations based on growth potential that have cool season people putting down 0.7 lbs N per 1ksqft in the heat of summer. I guess the assumption is that you can irrigate in that case.

I think that's mostly user error on the account that there are some implied tasks when looking at growth potential curves. One of them is understanding your grass type and its limitations. The potential is simply what's possible if the appropriate conditions are met. It doesn't translate literally, unfortunately. Thanks for watching 💪🏾🌱

What about those of us who live along the Equator where it's hot throughout the year?

That's a great question! Although I don't have any experience with that area hands-on, I can make some reasoning deductions based on what we know about its climate. Assuming you would go with Warm Season grass, I would split my applications throughout the year. So something like .25lbs of N each month because the turf wouldn't ever go dormant. I like trying TTTF in that area because it's not intense heat, and the humidity and moisture keep things relatively temperate. I would be concerned about fungal disease and thatch build-up, as I'm sure that's the number one issue. Thanks for watching! 💪🏾🌱

Can you use starter fertilizer both in spring and fall or is it best to use it only when overseeding in the fall?

Always great stuff! Question on the oxide forms of micros: I’ve heard/read that humic aids in accelerating the availability of the oxide micros. Is there any truth to that, and if yes, to what extent? Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it. As for your question. I've only seen consistent data with Humic that supports increased nutrient availability alongside Nitrogen applications and its ability to deposit stable forms of organic matter into the soil profile. Thanks for watching 💪🏾🌱

@@TurfTherapy so to your knowledge, is there any kind of input that would help accelerate the breakdown and uptake of micros in oxide form? If it matters, I’m in transition zone (Northern VA) with clay soil. I’m asking because I know most of the YM ferts have these oxide form of micros, and even though I’ve used them and had success, I know they aren’t the only ferts doing this (probably a cost cutting mechanism) and sometimes, the ones that don’t, are much higher is price especially these days. Want to do my best, but I also only have so much budget allocated to the lawn, haha! Appreciate any info you can provide!

@@jperezgiz27 I'm not aware of any products designed to address this issue or any peer-reviewed studies utilizing other products to address this issue. The reality is it could be years before those sources become plant available and by then they most likely have washed through the soil. I recommend purchasing a product like this as it will be cheaper than any experimental or misleading techniques to rectify the issue. @@TurfTherapy I’ll definitely be incorporating this into my plan! Thanks! Oddly enough, I pulled up current YM granular fert labels, and they no longer list any “derived from” oxides, primarily sulfates. So looks like they eventually wised up and put some better sources in there at least. But I do like to mix up my granular and foliar apps, so this will be an excellent addition! Okay, million dollar question; are there any particular soil profile conditions that would make oxidized micro nutrients more or less available to the plant than others? Or is it really just a black-and-white rule?

Technically yes. PH is the major contributing factor in being that micronutrients as a whole are more readily available to the plant when acidic. That being said the negative impacts of Macronutrient uptake and the overall health of the plant would not be worth the trade-off. Additionally the time it would take for the chemical and biological process to convert the micronutrients into a plant-soluble form would be the equivalent of mixing rusty nails into the water and spraying it I'm your lawn and expecting a greening effect. Chelated nutrients are readily available to the plant and are able to penetrate the plant's cell walls for immediate uptake.

That's great! When I used GCF products, I always got results. But the lack of diversity in analysis at the time led me to other options I have enjoyed for the last three years.
