It was unfair for people to make him into a meme but he's still had a far more successful career than the average professional footballer. More importantly, he's a massive success in life, having gone from a penniless orphan to a multi-millionaire living his dream.

@@essess8023 he was bought by man united at an inflated value to pay them off. He was bought by several teams before that and several after at a more reasonable value, and on a starting 11 most of his career. With no formal training until he was a legal adult. To do that on talent alone is unheard of. If it were something that could even plausibly happen with any regularity, premiere league scouts would be off scouring remote posts of Africa and pastures in the Balkans to find these mythical untrained stars. For analysis, Tifo consistently outputs good tactical analysis while The Purist Football and Football Made Simples do it less often but I'd argue their videos are more interesting. For these longer, well-researched "random" videos on teams or players, I really like RabonaTV, HITC Sevens and this guy the most, while Maqwell is a funnier variant imo.

It is absolutely FALSE that no one knew who he was in Portugal. Bébé was playing for Guimarães, one of the larger clubs outside of the big 3, and was a young player in which the club had a lot of hopes deposited on. He was also becoming one of the young revelations of the league. When he was purchased everyone was surprised because the kid had just began to gain relevance and this sort of money and move at such timing was absolutely ridiculous. Nevertheless it did save Vitória de Guimarães finances that season.

Ferguson claims that it was the recommendation of his former assistant, Carlos Queiroz, that influenced him to sign Bebé. No matter how much the truth gets distorted, the truth is still the the truth.

Ferguson left at the right time. His judgement was deteriorating.

Fans complain about where the game is going but one thing the game has massively improved on is player power over club power. United were always lazy when it came to scouting. As an AFC fan I noticed that they always tried to get the march on Arsenal, sometimes successful, sometimes not. They never had their own out and out scouting strategy. They relied on being the biggest name to nab players from rivals. Nowadays player power is dominant and Rice moves to AFC instead of late bids from City. Caicedo moves to CFC instead of late bids from LFC. Working on a player and not absolute trust of agents seems the way to go.

It is a clear case of a player ruining his career by jumping the learning steps, but one of the few that are not to blame
