Service conduit in one end only 250v+ to ground on one end only, unless you don't have concentric knockouts when metal flex is used as EGC under allowed conditions When running a GEC or an electrode BJ in a ferrous conduit. It's required on both ends to nullify inductance

I was about to make a correction comment, but you updated your video accordingly. 🙂 (Without the bushing on the SEC nipple, the nipple would not be bonded.)
@SparkyChannel
@SparkyChannel 9 ай бұрын
LOL! I beat you to the correction this time. Yes, the nipple between the meter socket and the safety switch has to be bonded. I didn't realize that at first.

I got this right because I recently had to add a grounding bushing at the incoming conduit of my service disconnect, which in my case is the circuit breaker panel.

Excentric k/os, and service conduits 💯
@pheadland

Feeling smug, because I guessed the correct location instinctively. Why did I jump straight to that? To me, it goes along with the rule about grounding the service disconnect itself. If that is the definitive local ground, it follows that it has to be where the ground is propagated to the conduit. But I'd install one on each side, because I want to be really, really sure no run of conduit can fry anyone under any circumstances, and $15 or so for an extra grounding bushing is cheap insurance.
@SparkyChannel

Great job! Yes, an extra grounding bushing is a great idea. The contestants only had one, so they had to really know their code.

@@SparkyChannel I guess with the meter base and that 3pole discount both having eccentric/ concentric knock outs how only one end of that nipple is required in the code to bonded and not both ends

I would be prone to putting a ground bushing on both sides of each conduit. Should a fault occur within any conduit the remaining knock outs in the hole may provide a poor electrical path and might result in a lot of arcing and possible fire hazard. Just my two cents, I realize it is not required less than 250 Volts.

Im more knowledgeable than i thought i wld have put it whete you said made the most sense. Than i wld have liked to put one on the other enclosure line side

Good video. Say with a 480V circuit and you are leaving a bonded enclosure with EMT directly KO'd (no concentric or eccentric etc) going to a box WITH concentric KOs, a bond bushing would NOT be required as the conduit is properly bonded on one side, correct?
@ed6837
@ed6837 9 ай бұрын
On the line side of a service disconnect you still need to use a bond bushing under all circumstances I believe.

I believe because it's 277/480 you have to have the grounding bushing no matter what for a service. (or other means listed in the next)

what if you just ran a continuous unbroken ground wire from 2 ground rods through a lug connected to the bonded neutral in the meter socket to the ground bus on the next panel? Wouldn’t that effectively ground the entire system?
@ElectricianMagician

You'd parallel the neutral....putting objectionable current on the housing of the panel, the disconnect, and the nipples.

Remember, these are apprentices. You can't except perfection. I would have loved to see 10 pros do this task and see if they all did it correctly. As I said in the video, I want Sparky Channel viewers to win contests like this! And just do it correctly in regular electrical work, of course.
