Chikorita has the same gender ratio of all starter Pokemon, so for every 7 males, one of them is female. Therefore, Dulce is more likely to be right than wrong addressing them as a 'he'.

True, although I always considered Chikorita more of a "she", rather than a "he": I guess it's because of that leaf resembling long hairstyle... 😅 Arguably one of the most hated starters of all time, but still adorable!

I always associate Chikorita as female because one of the main characters in the show had a female Chikorita. Or maybe it was because the trainer was female, her Chikorita became automatically female-coded. I always pictured Ash's Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Charmander as boys. Squirtle was obviously a boy.

Lots of people go by Dusty, not just a succession of Dustins. When they were kids, my grandmother (Augusta) and her best friend (Doris) were known as Gusta and Dusty. On top of that, I'm Canadian -- so it's not just a "down South" kind of thing.

I'm just curious what kind of 30-year-old is Taylor to not know that pokemon evolve? That is a most basic fact about pokemon and she was the exact right age when it came out to be watching or at least hearing about it at school as everyone suddenly started playing with the cards at recess. I call BS, Taylor is trying to look cooler than she really is pretending to not understand Pokemon.

It's much more fun when they're all true. Honestly, I would have been very sad if he wasn't a real pokemon fan, although gen 2 knowledge isn't the most impressive flex. Granted, I've been busy and haven't finished scarlet yet, and as such my gen 9 knowledge isn't solidified yet, so I'm losing my ability to gatekeep haha. (I did main chikorita in gold though, and because of the anime I fully believe that they should all be female, just like fennekin)
