The A95L QD-OLED Master series is the new TV KING of 2023. It has also been the lightning rod of the TV industry casting a large shadow over every release, even for its own siblings at Sony. This video chronicles that journey and the emotions that come with it.

I have the 77 A95L at the moment and waited over a year for it. It’s going back for a G3. What they don’t tell you is HOW BAD android sucks. I knew this going in, but it’s even worse than I thought. For those saying use an external device, I use an Apple TV. But you’re still forced to use the OS to some degree. And it’s annoying even in a limited capacity. It’s a laggy, bloated piece of garbage. I’m on the latest firmware and have had nothing but problems with it. Those include lag, the volume changing on its own, hdmi errors where it stopped displaying video (stating to check the cable and replace, mind you these are certified 2.1 cables that are under a year old and worked perfectly with LG oled) freezing (in actual content), issues with eArc where it doesn’t stay connected to receiver and reverts to the tv speakers. (my previous Lg’s NEVER experienced this once), even my UB-820 blu ray player was stuttering when playing a disc. This is UNACCEPTABLE for a tv that costs this price. Sony needs to abandon android and do better. I will never buy another Sony until they do. Instead of complaining about this, everyone just kisses Sonys a** so they have no inclination to do better. Yes the picture is great and the colors are wonderful, but QD oled is not the difference over WRGB oled people lead you to believe. what’s the point of having this anyway if you have to fight with the tv to use it and have to deal with a horrible OS? Anyone who says otherwise or it’s not laggy is flat out lying and trying to justify their purchase or sell you something. I will take the G3 any day. The processing is just as good imo, has less aggressive dimming, brighter SDR, and a MUCH better OS. I don’t care that the A95L won the shootout and matches a reference monitor best which no consumer owns. They fail to factor in the UI and overall experience not just the picture quality (or sound quality, I mean who uses tv speakers these days? Does this even matter?) As an overall package I’ll take the G3 over the A95L any day of the week.

I've seen the A95L at BB, it was right next to an A80L, they both looked great. The A95L was brighter, but it wasn't like night and day, not even close. They were very similar. I think these QD-OLED are way over hyped. Now if u never owned an oled, and have a 7+ year old lcd TV, any OLED will blow it out of the water and that would be night and day. But if your coming from years of oled, and then you get QD-OLED, yea it's nice, but it's not even close to the same jump as when u went from lcd to oled. Even with micro led, we won't get that huge jump in PQ all around as we did with OLED. We forget, all oled has over 8 million dimming zones.

Fantastic video guys. Really enjoyed the videos over the last few days. Given me some food for thought. I’m torn now. I currently have a 65” A95K. I sit approx 4m away from the tv. For movies, I find that 65” is fine. I do have a bean bag that allows me to sit closer when I’m gaming. So advice please. I have enough for the 65” A95L. But I’m not willing to go to the £6k for the 77”. I’ve had LG’s before, and loved them. So the 77” G3 is a possibility. Or the 75” X95L is also one I’m looking at, as I do prefer Sony’s overall. Will the Dolby Vision gaming in the later update be a big plus for the A95L? Is it worth it? Or do I wait until early next year in the hope that the 77” A95L drops a bit in price?

Last year on black friday I purchased my LG C2 knowing that the S95B existed, but felt all right about it because Samsung was messing it up with all the inconsistent updates. Then a few months later LG announced that MLA was finally coming to their oleds, and after seeing the results I cannot deny that I was pissed. I've always felt that on some scenes while using HDR or DV the tv could benefit of a brigther picture, and after seeing the posibilities I knew that MLA could fix this feeling of mine. I just didn't expect it to arrive so soon. I guess that I need to accept that technology advances are inevitable and they are going to happen anyway.

I went the other direction and got a Samsung S95B and the color and brightness was amazing. Yes even through the updates. I look at the LGC2 and I would felt like you. Color volume and color brightness is a very relevant feature. Also the I am a gamer and Samsung has the lowest input lag. I bought the Samsung from Sam’s Club and got 5 year warranty for free so it was a calculated decision. I am leaning towards getting the Samsung S90C in 77 inches it’s second generation QD-OLED and an unbeatable value. Sony cost 5k versus 2600 🤔. I have seen both the Sony A95L and the S90C yes the Sony has great processing but that mostly on low bit content. I will wait to see what 2024 has to offer after CES.

We still have our 65” C7 and it’s as amazing as it was from date of purchase with dark inky blacks, and amazing PQ. However, the processing has stepped up in a major way on the newer models and in 2023 it’s hard to compare that previous Oled to our 77” G3. I’ve owned many Samsungs and think they make some of the best lcd’s but I’m not a fan of their oled models. Had the Sony released sooner I may have purchased it, but was sold on LG’s MLA tech along with the oled proven reputation and 5yr included warranty. So again, had Sony released sooner it would have been a vey hard choice because I love Sony TVs. We have a X900h and love it.

Yeah, for the price of these TVs, which isn't cheap even with the LG, that five year warranty just makes them even more appealing. The quality control of the Sony panels has been very hit or miss, and spending $5,000 on a TV that only has a two year warranty isn't really wise...unless you spend an additional $500 or whatever from an external source for an additional three years (five year total). It's unfortunate though for that anyone that actually wants to have their TV on top of a stand, you either need to have an extremely wide one for the Sony thanks to their awful leg design, or need to get a replacement stand ($200), and similarly with the G3. You'll need a replacement stand period if you aren't wall mounting.

Honestly, I can't justify replacing my main 77 inch C1 OLED yet. Especially since the 77 incher is too big to move to my bedroom. 😆 It still looks great and blackout curtains are cheaper than a brighter A95L. 😆 But I'm loving all the new OLED technology so when I do upgrade I'll have an even better, brighter OLED no matter what brand I choose. Looks like the A95L turned out awesome, which is great. I love that all the brands are really pushing the boundaries of OLED technology and picture quality these days! I hope LG brings the MLA tech to the C series next year so people have even more choices.

Brian (and/or FOMO if either of you see this haha) I have a 65" A95L on order, upgrading from my 16 year old 47" LG lcd lol. Im stoked to be getting such an upgrade but as someone who loves to min/max everything, I'm trying to make sense of everything i need to do to get the most out of my tv, and have a few questions. Currently i have a PS5, hooked up to my cheap jbl 5.1 soundbar (which doesnt support hdmi 2.1) which is then hooked up to my lg. When my a95l comes in, until i upgrade my jbl soundbar to something like an ht-a7000/5000, should i connect the ps5 directly to the tv with 2.1 cable? And when i do go to the ht-a7000/5000, is there any reason to not connect the ps5 to the sony soundbar, and should i use the a95l as the center channel, as thats available with the sony/sony system. Lastly, im just learning about calibration for tvs, is this something i should look into locally? Im not ised to having a tv with so many modes and settings.... My issue is im just not sure theres anyone locally to me who I'd trust to do it, with such a new system. Im reading up on the Spears & Munsil ultra calibration discs, and am wondering if that would be a good idea to do that myself... Thanks for all you guys do, im really enjoying digging into your videos learning all i can.

Hello my friend! Thank you for watching and these are great questions. The A95L is calibrated at the factory to some degree as it is a master series . It's so close to fully calibrated that it really doesn't need to be calibrated by a professional. As for the soundbar, in order to plug directly into the soundbar, you'd need that soundbar to have hdmi2.1 pass through. The new ones may have that but the best bet is to use E arc and plug the pS5into one of the hdmi2.1 port's and the soundbar into the other hdmi2.1 port labels e arc. That way everything playing in any of the ports plays through the soundbar. Hope this helps and enjoy your new Tv!

Hey Brian. “Tech With KG” did an excellent side by side comparison today between the A95L & the G3. Shot in 4K one could Easily see the difference between them in the Vibrancy of the Colors. The LG Did look a bit better tho in a couple overhead shots of lush green grass, but that was the only thing it might have looked better on. Plus, LG is offering a FIVE YEAR Warranty on the G Line, whereas I think it’s only Three Years on the Sony TV’s. So you might be looking at adding $2-300 More on top of the $12-1300 if you go with the A95L model. I watched your other video on the Room Environment today and aside from a couple hours after work and a few hours on the weekends, I mostly have a very dark light controlled room.

I don’t know how you guys do the shoot out, but if you don’t do this, maybe you should going forward? - My suggestion is to cover up all the Name plates, cover up the bezels,, cover up the stands, so nothing is shown to maybe give one judge a biased opinion. - All anyone sees is the picture on the screen itself. - No one sees if it is an LG, a Sony, a Samsung, etc. Because if someone sees the stand they might know if that’s how the Sony stands are, or that’s how the Samsung stands are, etc.

Dude the A90J is still a vicious dog with enough bark and bite to give the 2023 sets a run for their money. Sony leaped it over for 2 consecutive years as its OLED master series. Anybody would be a happy camper with the A90J in their home. What size you got ?

A95K is like S90C level dim. A95L is MUCh brighter. It’s like 220 Horse power BMW X5 vs 330 Horse power Infiniti QX70 type of thing. A95K still so pricy, not much brighter than A9G, u better off getting Samsung S90C or S95C or Hisense U8K. Cuz they all have VERY HIGH color volume n contrast.

The reason for alot of the resentment is that the Sony A95L is priced absurdly. For one 65inch A95L here in Germany you can Get a 65inch G3 AND S95C. If it was only 500-700 more ok, but double the price of the other TVs? And yes the Panasonic last year was on par with the A95k, this year it gets Microlens array. Panasonic Mzw2004 vs Sony A95L is the real Kings duel. Panasonic is 300 euro cheaper. Sonys A95k of last year is still way more expensive than this years G3 and S95C.

Almost anyone would. The A95l has more color vibrancy and a clearer picture. BUT IS DOUBLE the price, and at the same time has only 2hdmi 2.1 connections instead of competitors 4, has industry worst motion handling. While it is a technically "better" picture, it isnt so far ahead that it makes up for the other things the other two tvs do better. Not everyone is willing to spend double the price of the other top tvs just so they can have a bit more vibrant colors and a bit more clearer picture. Dont forget your losing 2hdmi 2,1 slots

The A80L should be good enough for most people if you really want a Sony TV. If you want something brighter then just get the S90C as again that will be good enough for most people. The A95L won't be dropping anytime soon as it's a flagship and it doesn't have to. Sony knows people will buy it if they really want it no matter how much it cost. If I'm spending $5K on a TV it will be an 8K TV instead. It all just depends on your needs. If you're planning to game at all then go with the S90C. Only get the S95C if you find the differences necessary. As for as A95L you really have to be a Sony fanboy and love watching movies to death to even consider it. I currently have both the 77" A80J (movie watching) and 55" S95B (gaming). I still love them both and I won't be upgrading until at least next year or after. I feel like the TV tech needs to mature a little more for me to invest into it again. I'm going to be replacing my S95C for a dedicated PC monitor shortly. Probably with that new 57" G9 but I want to wait for the QD-OLED version if they make one. I will be buying another Sony for movies though. Probably with the A95M or A95N.

Great job you guys. Zenith should come back. Fomo giving people more Fomo? People fail to realize is that no matter what tv you buy, it’s already outdated. Manufacturers don’t just throw all this technology into there TV’s overnight. Takes time to R&D and test all the technology that goes into TV’s. Yes some technology takes longer than others to refine. It’s not like they don’t have something better that they are gonna bring out next year…Hence the updates that each manufacturer sends out now a days. Every manufacturer has a timeline for when they plan on releasing each technology. So enjoy the TV you have bought/got. I think this highlights that graphics is an art and humans do not have pro accurate sensors on their body. A painting is not as accurate as a photo, but humans prefer an artistic representation of reality. We all inhabit bodies with different flaws which makes us human. Calibration and standardisation is fine on the production line of content, so that you have a consistent output. Like colour grading a movie to a reference monitor, or mixing music to calibrated audio speakers in a recording studio. But for consumption by the consumer, the product has to be tuned to what appears good to the user. That's why we have tone controls on an amplifier. Measuring instruments do not see things the same as a human does. Sony realise this and manipulate the image to the biometrics of the human eye. The human eye perceives reality different to a measuring device. For example, the colour brown does not exist. Place the colour on a white background and we see dark orange which is what it is, but place the colour on a black background and we see brown. The colour that does not exist in the eyes of measuring equipment. It's just a mix of red and yellow at a low luminosity, but its appearance is change by the surroundings. You might not have perfect eyes and get your TV calibrated to look crap. But if you alter the setting to compensate for any flaws in your eyes yourself, it looks perfect. Professional calibration is an expensive FOMO con for normal consumers. Sony start with calibration, then fine tune it to what looks good to humans. You will always have the tech geek claiming it does not read accurate on the meter, even if he secretly thinks it looks better, and that makes him angry. If you want proof of this, look at CD vs vinyl. CD is a 100% perfect capture of what was recorded in the studio, while vinyl introduces harmonic distortion to colour the sound. If you are a musician who knows what the real instruments should sound like, you know that CD is the most accurate. But people prefer the warm tone of slight harmonic distortion. A measuring sensor will tell you the CD is more accurate, but humans prefer what sounds good to their ears. It is the same with graphical displays. Reviewers need to bear this in mind when thinking about calibration.

My only complaint about the hype from on the New QD-Oled panels after CES in 2022 on how this was going to be a hybrid oled between Led and Oleds and how these TV could be far cheaper than W-Oled TVs. with a less panel part. That wasn't the case. It's what I dreamed that would be my next TV. I'm not ready to trust one blue back light for years of use without panel DSE. It's just so new and no long term testing. I prefer Dolby Vision. I still like it from my Sony Blu-ray player UBP-X800M2, I don't find it all that dark like you all betray it out to be. Even for Dolby Vision version 1. When I heard about MLA displays being brighter this what led me to want an LG G3 over anything else.

NGL, y'all MASSIVELY underrated the the A95L image from jump. Its like y'all were cautious to be known as "the first guys that said the A95L is the best OLED" on YT. Bruh, Best Buy FINALLY displayed the 77" A95L in my local store and I seen it in person. NO OTHER TV COMES CLOSE to the A95L! Its the best TV i have ever seen in my life!!.... THEN, I immediately asked myself "why TF did Fomo and Brian not INSTANTLY name this TV the best TV theyve ever seen and WiNNER of 2023!!??" Ive watched y'all coverage for over 6 months on this TV and y'all BEEN seen this TV for almost a MONTH now. F the specs, you dont need them to see CLEARLY that the A95L is the GOAT! Say it with ya chest fellas! Y'all were bieng too timid with your conclusions at first. I hope y'all dont be so scared to crown a king when you see one in the future. Wether it be Sony, Sammy or LG. Btw, I HATE $ony! This will be the first $ony product I buy in over 10 years! I returned my S95C because the One Connect Box is glitchy AF in game mode. Keep being you fellas, just be MORE of what yall really are. Too much fakeness on YT as it is.
