Audiences were agonizing for years waiting to see a movie about Dracula's dog and in 1977 the world was gifted with this. Dracula's Dog (1977) isn't very good and it makes me wonder how anyone came up with this idea in the first place.

I love this film!. It was a VHS staple here in the UK under the far better title of Zoltan: Hound Of Dracula. It was a great film to watch with a group of friends, lots of beer and some large meat feast pizzas. It was also surprising just how creepy the dog was back then, and it still holds up pretty well today.

This was great - I thought Mark was particularly inspired with the jokes and I laughed all the way through! Funny how the 1970s and 80s were both a golden age for Horror, producing a staggering amount of iconic, classic movies (from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" to "The Exorcist", from "Carrie" to "The Shining", from "Halloween" to "Friday the Thirteenth", from "Poltergeist" to "A Nightmare on Elm Street", not to mention the Italian "giallos" by Argento, Fulci, et al) and fertile ground for some of the cheesiest, unintentionally hilarious - but often highly entertaining - examples of the genre, many of which Mark has covered quite nicely over the years.

I actually met Count Dracula, he had a palace close to my home town. He got adopted into the Kretzulesco family in the 70's, making him _Ottomar Rodolphe Vlad Dracula Prince Kretzulesco,_ legitimatly related to the original Vlad the Impaler. He then purchased the estate with the palace to provide a place for events such as concerts, medival fairs and art exhibitions. Prince Kretzulesco supposedly died in 2007, but I guess somebody should double-check..

It's 100% impossible that Dracula had a Dobie as his dog. "Dracula" was first published in 1897, the events in the book - including Dracula's death - happen several years before the then-present time. The Dobermann/Doberman Pinscher breed wasn't fully developed and refined in Germany until the end of the 1890s. There probably wasn't a single Dobie in all of Romania before quite some time into the 20th century. Cynologically totally unbelievable movie, 0/4 paws! Also, "Zoltan" is a VERY Hungarian name - and Vlad III, the real-life person Dracula is based on, was imprisoned by the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus for 14 years. He had a very complicated relationship with the Hungarians. He was only released about a year before his death and after being forced to convert from Eastern Orthodox Christianity to Roman Catholicism. I sincerely doubt that he would have given his dog that name. Or something...

I was thinking the same but didn't know the exact years, just that the breed was developed in the late 1800s and virtually non existent in the early 1900s, both after the book came out/was set. For some reason Dobermans and rottweilers were just the stock "bad guy" dogs in the 70s.

I always liked watching howling 2 and counting those lol. I swear that whole movie is more hole than plot. They say the werewolves are from transylvania and have to kill them by putting a stake through their heart among many many others. Jon tron did a really funny video on it.
