Long ago, in a far away kingdom, there lived a selfish and cruel Prince. When an old woman arrived at his doorstep, he turned her away without a second thought as he was raised a spoiled young man. In a flash the woman transformed herself into a beautiful enchantress after realizing his heart was filled with darkness. The prince begged for mercy, but the enchantress had already determined he needed to be taught a lesson, so she turned him into a hideous beast; to undo his curse, the beast had to allow his heart to fall in love and to earn love in return before his 21st birthday. Hello I’m Isaac from Wotso Videos where we discuss fun topics for fun people and today we are going to discover who cursed the Beast.

In most fairytales, fairies were not in the story just to grant wishes or give a happy ending ; they put the heroes trough tests, got revenge on the villains and sometimes even punished the heroes for failing, sometimes in the most exagerated ways. When you read the old tales, they appear to be morally grey, like an arbitrary obstacle and/or a deus ex-machina. Disney usually gives their character a fairly simple leaning towards good or evil, even when they try to give us a somewhat compassionate villain, they never leave a character's true morality up for debate - like the Witch in the Little Mermaid, they made Ursula a villain, but when you read the tale, she's just an old sea folk living out of society and making deals with people who come to her against payment, she has no interest in the characters' adventures. I always loved the Enchantress because it was the only Disney character that never was established as a heroe or a villain, even her face looks completely neutral (in the stain-glass version anyway). To me she represents the arbitrary nature of life's events, she comes unexpectedly and strikes unfairly, but the hardship that the Beast has to go through makes him a better person in the end ; I think she carries a good and interesting moral, that bad things can happen to you for no reason, but learning from them can make your life better in the end.

I really like your point about the enchanteess, I always looked at it personally as a lesson that you should look beyond appearance. As a positively character and punishing the beast because 'at the point in time' he was bad. I was young while watching so i never noticed the unnecessary cruel nature of her 'punishment'. Beauty and the beast just has so much to offer

She isn't a queen, she is only the daughter of powerful mischievous witches. Maleficent's adoptive mother was a powerful fairy in fairyland, her sister was the great fairy godmother seen on Cinderella who saw maleficent as evil because of her appearance. She was also the ruler of fairylands.

@@adrianonoble3387 The Disney Villain books. They all state the past of every villain and how they became what they were. The enchantress is named circe, circle was actually in a relationship with the beast before he was a beast ofc, but she wanted to test his love for her. So she went up to him looking like a hag and he rejected and told her the worst things possible. She saw the truth in his eyes cause he only liked her because of her beauty. Hence she cursed him. The witches also intervened in many of the events in the story such as sending the wolves to attack Belle cause they knew she would break the curse. But they never expected the beast to save her. It does seem awfully good luck that a girl with a good heart who was brave enough to face the beast and who could love the beast in spite of his appearance and help him change was the one to find him. Imagine if it was a girl too afraid to stand up to him and cowered before him, or a girl who didn't love him but acted like she did so she could live in a castle and have servants. I think there was some magic in that forest pushing Belle's father toward the castle. Maybe the enchantress already had Belle in mind when she made the curse, and was waiting for the right time, or enchanted the forest itself to only the let the right girl (or someone she would look for, likeher father) in, kind of like the Cave of Wonders that only allowed Aladdin to enter.

Sees a 10 year old orphan acting like a brat:turns him into a beast!
@QueenBoadicea
@QueenBoadicea 7 жыл бұрын
Acting like a spoiled brat may entail demanding all of the ice cream, throwing a tantrum if asked to go to bed at a regular hour or breaking his baby sister's toys. Condemning an old lady to die in a bitter snowstorm goes WAY beyond that. When you're going to be ruler of a kingdom one day, such viciousness as a child doesn't bode well for the adult you'll become. At least the fairy spared his future subjects the likely horror of his wanton cruelty.

Yeah nevermind that this psychopathic woman came knocking at the door in the middle of the night with a glowing magical object and cursed a ten year child and EVERYONE in the castle, for showing a *modicum* of caution and good sense. And by the way, where were this ten year old's parents, and why didn't the staff answer the door?

I think the witch from Brave might be the same fairy god mother. She took on the form of a small old woman in a green cloak like dress. She had enchanted items and turned people into "beasts" using her magic in hopes of teaching them a powerful lesson. Those curses also had a time limit for them to learn a valuable lesson.

How did the enchantress know that this would be his most self absorbed moment maybe its because if his parents died he forced all the surveys to stay with him and that's why they see him as a beast.

I don't think that is neccessarily the case. Look at #4:58, he doesn't look 11, if you look at this, he looks more like a older teenager. Also it is the Enchanted Christmas episode (where the curse was expanded upon), Chip was clearly shown to be a toddler when the curse took place (probably about 2 or 3 years old) .. My claim is that time passes by much more slowly in the castle, such that 3-4 years equates to about 10 years outside the castle.. in which case the prince would have been ~17/18 when he was cursed, and Chip 2 years old, and when the curse breaks, the prince would be 21, and Chip ~5 years alternate explanation: Lumiere said that it was 10 years since they last had a guest, it does not mean that the curse was for 10 years.. it simply means that it has been 10 years since the prince hosted anyone.

According to a book published by Disney, The Evil Queen's father was a mirror-maker. Her father was in love with a woman, whom he later married. She wanted a child so badly that he made a deal with three wicked magical sister to give them a baby. In return he would give them his soul when he died. That is how the the Evil Queen was conceived, but the mother died during childbirth making the father hate the Evil Queen for the rest of his life until he died. When the Evil Queen married the King, she was given a present by the wicked sister who turned out to be the King's cousins. The present was the mirror with her father's soul trapped in it. It was not a fairy godmother who gave her the mirror, but evil witches. At least that's what the book explained.

I had wondered about her for years, even before the live action Cinderella. My thoughts were a fairy, Pinocchio’s fairy or tinker bell. I used both of those as examples because they both were human sized (think grew big in hook with Robin Williams), they tend to glow because of their dust, much mike the woman in the beast and yes, they can have a twisted side to them like tinker belle. Fairies can do good but are often tricksters too. Godmothers never glow, they tend to be magical like witches. And yes, they do give out items it doesn’t explain their blonde hair. I’m basing this on the movies prior the beauty and the beast since if they were connecting them then they would link what was available to choose from. The only blind magical women I can think of prior to the release of beauty and the beast are fairies. If you further think of it, if it was a godmother from Cinderella or sleeping beauty then she would have looked older in her true formation reveal. I believe fairy godmothers lose their” youthful glow “ much like women tend to do when they age. The only fairy I can see fitting the bill is the blue fairy. Since she is human sized in all her appearances. She rewards Pinocchio when he is good and has the power to transform him into one being (wood) into a human. She is caring and loving and wants him to genuinely succeed which is why she gives him jimmeny cricket. She also allows his nose to grow and him to get a tail when he is not on the right path. Much like the prince turning into the beast (Pinocchio the donkey) and his helpers (cogsworth and lumier). The only thing that gets me is the green dress. I had originally thought tinker bell because of her iconic green dress and white in the action cartoon..The only thing I can think of is that it’s the blue fairy at a younger age. And they transition clothing styles as they mature. Chronically beauty and the beast Before Pinnochio and peter pan. So. Yeah. That’s where I get “tangled” up in my thinking. (Pun intended)

So, an 11 year old doesn't let a stranger in, probably because his parents (where are they, by the way) told him not to, and suddenly, it is an issue about looks... But there are more thing I wonder about the movie. Like, Maurice wasn't able to tell what happened in the castle, but somehow Gaston knew that Belle would do anything to keep her father from getting locked up.

Remember Hospitality was a thing back in those days heck look at the Bible!! There's Abraham's servant meeting Rebecca at a well (and R offers him a drink of water as well as his mode of transportation)) Rebecca becomes Issac's wife, his son Jacob meets his cousin (and future wife number #1 Rachel ((Leah is wife #2)).) at a well. , Moses meets Zipporah at one. Not to mention in the New Testament Jesus asks a Samaritan for a drink. In some fairytales a fairy is disguesed as a beggar,etc at a well and tests the women who come to get water "Diamonds and Toads"? so maybe the other thing was a test.

I think the beast was a serene highness and not a royal highness, meaning his father was a Duke in charge of a Duchy and not a King in charge of a Kingdom. I think this because Duchies and Dukes were common in medieval France before Louis XIV claimed supremacy and the region didn't seem to be affected by the absence of a rightful monarch, as they would be in the days of absolutism.

Fairy godmother is a name to disguise, infact she's the ancient mother goddess. They use the name fairy godmother to cover her real identity as the mother goddess as paganism was not to be introduced and forbidden. Just like the ancient Greek goddess Demeter disguise herself as a crone. And then revealed herself as a beautiful goddess. When she travel to eleusis.

The fact that such magical being use there powers to show that their is still hope for people who in their darkest hour😔☄. Yes, the conditions have time limits, they follow up as a curse, but when you think about it, the the lesson of the Beast lesson was to open your heart to love others, because if he didn't have this curse he could have been this horrible cruel inside monster👹. I don't she was Cinderella fairy godmother. But the reason the others were punished for the beast being a brat was so he not only so he have someone who care forever but also to give him guilt. 11 or not he was a royal brat back then and I never acted that way when I was little. I don't know if this because there were no parents to punish him when he misbehaved or nobody thought to teach right from wrong before it was too late and he became the spoiled prince who never cared about anyone but himself.

Ok, so first, I loved this video. Second, I have an add on to the theory. I just finished a spin-off book of Beauty and the Beast call "As Old As Time" in this the women who cursed the beast was an enchantress. But she was also Belle's mother, who was kidnapped closely after cursing the prince, who was eleven when it happened (hence why Belle didn't have a mother). It turned out that Belle was the only one to be able to break the curse to begin with because of her mother being the one to make the curse. It was really good and anyone interested should read it to check it out.

I honestly didn't like the book. At all. I hated the way it portrayed Belle and I hated how the Enchantress had enough power to curse an entire castle's population, then later "doesn't have the power to change the Beast back, only the staff" because she's too weak too. The only character I truly felt sorry for was the Beast. The idea that Belle could only break the curse because her mother was the Enchantress is a wonderful idea, but this book poorly executed it.
@caos1925

especially after seeing the movie version, it added a few good things. Firstly the prince looked older, so that's good, it further explained why the servants were cursed, because as I think Lamar said "We did nothing." The prince was corrupted by his father (who presumably left him later) and his mother was dead and they did nothing for him, but to keep being servants, unlike say someone like Alfred. As for the enchantress I'd describe her as Chaotic good- does the right thing through extreme means.

It actually makes sense how the Beast was cursed-he was a prince so he already had "everything" (except good internal qualities like compassion apparently), whereas Cinderella had nothing outwardly but she had it all internally so she was gifted some swag for a few hours. In the live-action Cinderella's case, it should. In the animated film, she just appears out of nowhere, no build up or mention or anything. And with a live-action _Beauty and the Beast_ on the way, Disney were trying to get a point across of what they believe fairy godmothers do.

Maddy Burrows Not In The Least. Keep In Mind That The Original Stories Were 1. Created A LONG Time Ago And 2. Were Created For Adults,Not Kids So They Had A Lot Of Things Like Murder And Rape. ***** . I looked it up now because I couldn't believe that my parents would have lied to me about that, and I'm right. Where did you get that they were for adults? Edit: I've just seen the wikipedia page. Odd. It does say that adults were the target just as often as children, yet I'm sure that stories like beauty and the beast were cautionary.

Most of the confusion here I think comes from thinking the enchantress was all good or all evil. Assuming she was some sort of fae creature, at best many of them they were seen as ambiguously amoral beings, at worst they were malevolent , spiteful, and malignant beings. So you could say that her intentions for casting her spell may depend on what she sees in the hearts of mortals, but you could also say that her actions don't always follow any particular set of logic that we can easily understand.

Interesting theory, but I have another. I believe that she meant to curse everyone, but she did have good intentions. Before I explain my theory, I need to clear up/explain some plot holes. Firstly while we know the beast to be a prince, we don't see his parents, who would be the king and queen, and his absence doesn't seem to have any negative impact on the people or the kingdom. My explanation for this is that he is one of many children of the king, and that the castle the story takes place in is his PERSONAL castle (wow that is some impressive spoiling, even for royalty). Next plot hole, why did she curse his staff? Well the explanation is simple, wither they tried or not, they didn't try hard enough to teach him right from wrong, and if that ain't enough, then maybe the fact that they might've been able to find someone who could break the curse, without fulfilling its conditions. Or they would find someone who would fulfill the conditions but wouldn't change the beast for the better. Another plot hole is his age but, you have to keep in mind that we think hes young because we using the standards of today. Back in those times people were lucky to make it to fifty or sixty, so people had to grow up faster. I don't know what would've been expected of someone that age at that time, but I'm certain that it would be more then in our time. Next is why curse him at all, hes just a kid. Well even if they were still considered a kid at that age back then, which they may or may not have been, most kids learn the basics of right and wrong at age seven or eight. So he still should've known that it would've been right to let her in. And if anyone makes to this point says "but what about the danger of letting a stranger in" or something like that. One did she look dangerous, two he has guards to protect him, three most people were more trusting in tell world wars, cold wars, gangs, etc. and if all of that isn't enough, he didn't think about safety, he thought, "she's ugly, I'm not letting that in." And that is my theory/explanation of the enchantresses actions.
@knightofkorbin888
@knightofkorbin888 Ай бұрын
Easy for you to say all he felt was "She's ugly, I'm not letting that in". Than along with the right or wrong common sense assumption justifying the Enchantress' curse was quite an oversimplistic generalization. What hard evidence is there supporting the implied claim that children on Earth, across civilizations, in this or any century, learn from their culture "righteousness" means inviting a potentially dangerous, dirty, drenched stranger whose hideously grotesque, loitering, and a vagrant trespasser on your property into your house because they're asking for shelter? 7 years ago, was not the popular consensus of what's the "right" reaction to make when bothered by this repulsive disturbance reporting them immediately to the police upon your request for them to leave. If this person didn't back off. Turning her in instead of away was the typical response 7 years ago. When in the history of a human civilization was welcoming some random disgusting person into your home in any instance a tradition taught early to children? When did a physically unattractive person become the person children are taught how to trust and openly invite near them without considering any risks. Especially one harassing them with uncomfortable begging for permission to access their home. Which was and still is across the world a situation avoided with extreme prejudice. The prince was held at a standard I'm not convinced anyone on Earth, regardless of their age, is meeting. Nor was this a realistic expectation to hold in the 1500s/1600s..? Sympathy is felt for her because she is described as an the elderly woman in the rain. Invoking a strong emotional reaction expecting her to receive hospitality. But this doesn't mean allowing strangers into homes was ever considered morally essential to teach children. This test was unreasonable. Especially given how apparently neither his parents nor grandparents were in the castle.

My theory with the age issue is that the Beast still ages because he has until his 21st year. His servants do not age because they are not the ones being punished. In the movie, it only ever said that he would remain a beast forever, not that his servants would remain objects forever (I am aware that in the stage plays they turn into antiques). So, the servants' ages are simply frozen while the Beast still ages so the spell can still be affective

they said that the cursed people stopped aging. that means the beast should have been a young man by then, maybe 17 or 18. lumier did said that they have been cursed for ten years, so the beast sould have been 27 by that time, and on the rose's point of view, the rose bloomed by the time the beast was 21, but didn't have a time frame until the the last petal fall. who knows, maybe it would only shed a petal once a year, or twice a year, it was not said in the story, so that would make him not a young boy by the time he was curse. besides, who would curse a lad for his misbehaviour?

Fairy Godmothers in Disney have time limits so if this were true it makes sense because there’s a time limit for every Fairy Godmother: Cinderella’s godmother gave her until midnight, Sleeping Beauty’s godmother gave 16 years, Ursula (I’m counting her because she fits what we’re searching for) gave Ariel 3 days, so if this were the case, it makes sense that the Beasts Fairy Godmother gave 21 years, I wonder how long they gave the Evil Queen.

I totally agree with this. I don't think that the enchantress was evil. I believe that she wanted to teach the prince a lesson. She didn't want the prince to grow up to be a tyrant. There were kings and queens who were tyrants throughout history and they abused power. Maybe the enchantress was sick of seeing kingdoms and people ruined and destroyed by tyrants so I believe that she wanted to teach Prince Adam a lesson. I agree that the curse brought the prince and his staff closer together and it bettered the kingdom. I think that the enchantress knew what was best to help Prince Adam be a good, kind hearted ruler. And I do respect everyone's opinion. I do disagree that that the enchantress is a villain but if people want to believe that than that is fine. My favorite ice cream is chocolate and cookies n cream.

Hey Wotso! 🤗 I just wanted to say, as plausible and convincing as your hypothesis/theory was with all the evidence you provided, I’m not completely positive that you hit the target. There is one source of information that is certified by Disney that reveals the back story to Prince Adam’s/The Beast’s back Story which includes more information about the Enchantress. It’s a novel titled “The Beast Within”. I think this is well worth looking into and that there’s more that Disney wants to explain. And there’s more of these books for different characters as well, they are the villains trilogy called “A Villains Collection”.

I dont believe the evil queen was gifted the mirror. If you remember in her castle she has books on black magic and astrology and curses. She was a witch queen but used her magic to darken herself. She could of stolen the mirror from someone who was once gifted it by a fairy godmother OR she could have created it herself.
@thirteenfury
@thirteenfury 7 жыл бұрын
captainbrunch Also, the magic mirror Beast has is just an enchanted object. Anyone can use it, as we saw from Belle and Gaston being able to not only use the mirror but don't suffer any negative consequences for using the mirror outside of Beast's castle. Whereas the Evil Queen's magic mirror has a spirit trapped inside it that she can talk to and apparently the Evil Queen is the only one capable of using it. I think fairy godmothers can create enchanted objects through their own natural magic, by channeling that magic through a wand. Witches have to create magic mirrors using existing mirrors and performing complicated spells to trap spirits inside, much like a genie in a lamp.

The servants weren’t cursed without a reason they were cursed to transform into objects because that’s how their master thought of them the enchantress also cursed the servants because they played a role in the prince’s horrible behavior as they gave him everything he wanted and were too cowardly to stand up to him and tell him no but this also makes the enchantress morality a mystery as she was willing to curse a presumably 11 year old prince and his housekeeper’s son who was also just a child.

I've always had a problem with this story... A child (not even a teenager) doesn't let an old woman inside the castle and that's considered "darkness in his heart"? Even though, it was proven the woman was dangerous as she proceeded to curse the prince (and his entire castle staff) to live as beasts and magical things. Where exactly was the kid wrong about the old woman?

children't weren't exempted at all (doesn't matter if there were parents or not). Children (Regardless of age) were basically mini-adults back in those days. If they're the Master (or Mistress) of the house (or in this case Palace), they would be responsible for allowing or denying a guest to come in.

I think it was Malaficient. Here's why : ^ Both Arora and Prince Adam were given specific times, 16th birthday with Aurora and 21st with Adam ^ Both were frozen in time, physically they did not age ^ Both can only be saved by love or an act of love, a condition set by the witch/enchantress herself

I agree with you friend. The curse was unjust to the servants. However, you are right, the curse did in fact bring all of them closer together and perhaps this curse taught the servants a lesson too. A lesson in which just because the prince is the master THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY SHOULD LET THE PRINCE TO TREAT THEM RUDELY AND UNKINDLY

I think that, when Lumiere said they'd been rusting for ten years, he meant that the beast was such a jerk, no one wanted to come over. I mean, the painting of himself the beast tore and the way he looks in the stained glass windows that tell his backstory all look the way he does when he turns back into a human.

Did the curse also wipe the memory of the Prince from the people in Belle's village, as Maurice and Belle seemed surprised to find a castle out in the forest?

I am not sure. They could have been very far away. Or they could have been an independent village without rule. Thanks for watching.

Marie it makes sense because if the prince was distant and the curse was to make everyone see the prince they saw, they would forget because he was practically nonexistent

Wotso Videos after you said he could see the outside world it kind of made sense because he's a loner and loners don't necessarily have to have a connection to the outside world. That would mean he on purposely looked for a woman to break his spell (more than likely from the ideas from his main servants, which they didn't actually think it would work). He seemed on the fence about if it would ever be broken in the first place after 10 years. He was way too prepared for belle, (think about it) there was woman's clothes which fit her size perfectly (how did he know her exact size?), a massive library (that he more more than likely didn't use or keep up maintenance on part 2 he said he didn't read), jewelry, her own room already made up. I wish the movie had explained those things.

At 1:23 you suggest that the curse lapses in time and ages people (claiming the prince was 11 when cursed and 20/21 when the curse is broken) and at 2:35 you suggest that they were frozen in time since chip looks like a child. The price definitely does NOT look like an 11 year old when the curse is broken. Explore that plot hole more.
