The "He Gets Us" Super Bowl ad has kicked off quite the debate within Christian circles. Feet washing is rarely practiced within churches, so who's feet exactly should we be washing? Would enjoy hearing your respectful insights below.

You don’t have to physically wash someone’s feet. It’s a symbolic way of serving and humbling oneself to another. It’s a way of showing that we are not any better than the one whom is in need of service. I am my brother’s keeper!! ❤🙏🏼🕊️

Just thought you should know that this is a very sacred ordinance that the apostles practice in temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Oh its quite easy to answer your question, we're not supposed to be worrying about washing other people's feet if we are not yet have our own feet in the kingdom of God and you haven't got your own feet yet in the kingdom of God. The idea is to come first into Zion (seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness) that Amos and Joel and Isaiah tell you about where the gathering in the last days will take place of all the righteous will be to gather them all to Zion, and then once you got your feet in the kingdom then you can worry about whose feet to wash later. There are over 46,000 self-service pet projects now on the planet because they want to serve God in their own way, instead of seeking for the Kingdom of God to serve his way , that is why all the righteous are being gathered to Zion to learn how to serve God his way, '' The answer is found in Isaiah 2:3 "3. And MANY people shall go and say, Come Ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the House of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths, for OUT OF ZION SHALL GO FORTH THE LAW (LDS CHURCH) , and the word of the Lord from Jersualem. (future event now starting to happen, we are now hearing tthe jews starting to talk more about Jesus and starting to believe in him) They are starting to search the scriptures and the prophecies. The righteous will gather to Zion and make their way into the temple to the Lord's sanctuary to learn of his ways. That is why the temples exist in Zion for each one of them is a House of the Lord. You haven't yet got the Gift and Power of the Holy Ghost which is the most precious thing a covenant member can have is the daily companionship of the Holy Ghost. You need to come into Zion to get that gift. You can't get it in the other 46,000 self service projects. The Washing of feet is basically symbolic of Ministering to others.

❤ I appreciate the unifying grace you mirror in each week's video toward those you visit or comment on. ❤ In washing his apostles' feet our Savior taught us how he, the greatest of all, is our loving servant. ❤ Additionally, he taught that in whatever we do to or for the least of his children we also do it unto Him. ❤ We show our love for him by ministering to our fellow beings. It's how we can draw closer to Christ, becoming more like him. ❤ Some of my greatest joys come from serving others without any expectations of them.

I was so surprised to see ANY commercial about Jesus Christ!! I was so touched and happy to see that there were a couple of adds about him whom we ALL need to turn to, to find peace and true happiness. We ARE supposed to love and serve others. This is what he taught. ❤ Great video. I’m glad you made this video to highlight the importance of Jesus Christ in all of our lives. Thank you

I think the message by itself is fine but you have to ask yourself why a minority was never depicted washing the feet of someone wearing a MAGA hat or why an abortionist was not shown washing the feet of a pro-life advocate. It was all one sided which raises red flags.

I’ve heard story of a companionship that was struggling, and while at a Zone Conference they went into a classroom by themselves, and one companion proceeded to wash the feet of the other. Then the Mission President stumbled upon them… and told them to immediately stop, because although their hearts were in the right place, the washing of the feet is an Ordinance performed on those who have been called and ordained as Apostles. Which makes sense when you read the account of the Last Supper!

Mosiah Chapter 2: " 17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God. 18 Behold, ye have called me your king; and if I, whom ye call your king, do labor to serve you, then ought not ye to labor to serve one another? 19 And behold also, if I, whom ye call your king, who has spent his days in your service, and yet has been in the service of God, do merit any thanks from you, O how you ought to thank your heavenly King!" Our living Apostles wash each other's feet in the Holy Temple just like Jesus taught his Apostles to do in The New Testament.

Service done in secret is rewarded openly and greatly by the lord. Jesus washing the feet has nothing to do with repentance or forgiveness. It was simply the lord showing his honor to his disciples for their service. When we do any service without expecting reward, we are washing their feet. To do this so the world can see does nothing. The lord said "if you do it for the glory of the world, you have your reward". You are a good example for the lords description of service. Everytime you express your testimony of gods glory, you enhance others lives. That is the purpose of service 😊

I agree with you. I have a couple added thoughts. I first learned this after having hurt my back and needing surgery, while having a 2 and 1 year old at home. I was completely bed ridden for 2 weeks while I waited for surgery. My neighbors and ward showed up in full force. Cleaning my house, playing with my kids, wrapping Christmas presents, bringing dinners, you name it. It was REALLY hard for me to accept help. I am always the one that wants to help others but feels like I should do it all on my own. I remember laying there, bawling, feeling so helpless and worthless…when the image of the Savior washing the disciples feet came to my mind. With the thought, “there is more to this story.” I knew this story. Always saw it as what the Lord was doing for the disciples… which obviously that’s a huge part of the lesson. But what about how humbling this was for the disciples? How hard it was for them to let their pride down and just accept what Christ wanted to do for them? And in turn, allowing Christ to teach to the world service. Forgiveness. The depths he will go to help us. To clean us. The Spirit taught me that it can actually be harder to accept help than to provide it. To provide help we are awarded with a sense of worth. To accept help, we sometimes have to see that we cannot help ourselves. It’s not a good feeling. But once we do…the burden is so much lighter! So to me the images are just as much about all these different people accepting Christ as it is about Christ loving us all equallly.

The ONLY image in that ad which depicts both participants as equally valuing the other is the one where the two men are sharing the foot bath. (like Mr. Rogers and his guest) As an Acupuncturist and TCM practioner of Reflexology I fully comprehend the emotional/spiritual components of washing and annointing another's feet. Even if there is renumeration involved, the act remains an exchange of spiritual (or energetic) significance. As for the religious tradition of Foot Washing... ask your LDS friends where and whom still participate in that sacred ceremony.

In the Church of Jesus Christ (Bickertonite), foot washing services are usually held quarterly. However, only baptized members participate. An annual evening foot washing service is held on Maundy Thursday (Thursday before Easter) at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, MO. In this service, anyone in attendance may wash the feet of anyone else in attendance. Maybe I’ll see you there!

In our little fellowship of churches whenever its time for an ordination the Elder Minister wahes the feet of the Minister being ordained. Retead John 13. What is Jesus doing to His 12 Disciples.....He is essentially Ordaining them into their new ministry position..... The advertisement at the Super Bowl, I thought was wonderful.....why???? Somply, as a Christian, we all need to wash the feet of those around us....in other words see needs and meet them. One if our ministers, saw a need in her own extended family. Grandma Ellie was not doing well and the Minister ended up staying with Ellie until her death. That is being the example of a Servant of Jesus. This is the example of being a Christian. Perhaps, we should all be washing feet.....yes!!! Sister Monique 🙂🙏🌷💖

I think it goes to show that we need to be paying attention to our own beams and not moats we have to remember there was only one perfect person who could have cast a stone and He chose to give her mercy and counsel to sin no more. Everyone needs to put down their rocks and like you did see the good in the people of the world who love Jesus. We can let people of other denominations call us to repentance we don’t have to agree with every point to come together in Christ

Wisdom is known by her children.. we've seen the results of decriminalization of drugs and crime in our communities , which by the way was supposed to be an expression of love and compassion.. will the justification of immorality through love and compassion yield the same results or truly be beneficial to bringing about Christ's purposes in this world? The answer to this will prove whether the love is Christ like or not..

We have been asked by a prophet of God to be peacemakers. I think it’s always good to have the reminder to love and serve everyone (what I’m interpreting the washing feet to mean). I can see the point about the ideological directions this could go that would bring in false doctrine, but i didn’t think they took it there in the commercial so in my opinion those concerns aren’t relevant for this.

This ad troubled me. It gives the impression that Christian conservatives should be bowing down to everyone else. Christ washed the feet of his apostles, people who were striving to follow him, or at least pretending to in the case of Judas. He didn’t wash the feet of Caesar, or the feet of the scribes and Pharisees.

@@52churchesin52weeks Perhaps but the pro life protestors were in the background which I interpreted as something negative, like Jesus would not be protesting at an abortion clinic he would be ... The way I think it should be viewed is that this girl receiving the washing doesn’t represent the abortion industry. She represents one who might be victimized by it and the ideology. One like her would definitely be in need of The Saviors love, not the clinic and what that represents.

Jesus invites us to love the person, not the sin. He doesn't even ask us to overlook or pardon the sin (only He can do that) but think of the young woman taken in the very act of adultry. How did He treat her? With compassion and mercy, ultimately inviting her to be better. If WE could do that as the human race, there would be no war, no poor among us, only love and people trying to be better.

Is it "hate" to call people out? Certainly it can be done in a hateful way, which is wrong. But a true friend will tell you when you're fly is down. Just because we point out someone's error doesn't mean we hate them. In fact that would be the loving thing to do. But it must be done in a loving way. As for Judas, if given the opportunity would Jesus have washed the feet of all those pharisees he condemned? I don't know, perhaps, but perhaps not.

My understanding is that Christ washed the feet of His Apostles (except for Judas, who had left the upper room). He washed the feet of those that He had chosen, who had both followed Him and preached His name abroad, and who had stuck with him through difficult times. I’ve been told that this may have been an Ordinance, only performed on Apostles of the Lord. We have no record of Christ washing the feet of those who opposed Him, as the ad portrays. I can understand the sentiment, of being willing to humble ourselves and serve those we may not normally think to, but the ad is a miss for me.

I loved the commercial. Washing someones feet is such a sincere act of love towards a person. We are not washing the sins, we are washing the person. If we truly love people and dislike their sins, I see no better demonstrating of that sentiment. We surround the person with humble love. We clean them, comfort them, embrace them, truly do anything for them to help them feel better. Then maybe they will trust us enough to listen when we encourage them to follow Christ. But even if they don't, our job is to love the them anyway. I know I felt the spirit when watching this ad and I do think it will bring goodness to the world

Who Is Feet Should We Be Washing? ?????

In the New Testament and early days of the Restored Church, many things were done that we don’t do or is not publicly done or announced. This includes wiping the dust off one’s feet as a curse. In the temple ceremony, from and based on the Old Testament, we do things involving anointing and washing. But we don’t talk about these things. Because the temple is sacred, we treat it with respect and although it isn’t secret, we don’t focus on one body part. The whole body plays its part in how Jesus teaches, so we need to remember we are all part of the body of Christ, and every part of the physical body plays a role, just as every calling is equal and not a step up or down. This applies to being positive and negative. Missionaries no longer wipe their feet as a warning or curse against rejection of the Gospel. So the need to respect everyone and their agency and the entire body as sacred or part of the Church in terms of cleaning per how Jesus teaches means no one or body part gets special treatment. But the temple ceremony doesn’t include the feet in being touched. They are covered for it, unlike the head or face. It would be inappropriate to touch every body part on someone to mention why it is important. So they limit it. The initiatory is done as a reminder of how important the priesthood is, regardless of men holding it. Women don’t hold it but use the authority of it in their calling. Hope this makes sense.

Something that impressed me was a scene from the movie "The Jesus Revolution", which came out last year. The pastor of this church in Southern California decided to invite hippies into his church because they needed Jesus as much as anyone. The congregation wasn't hot on it and some of the leading elders of the church complained that these people were coming in with dirty, bare feet and getting the carpet dirty. The pastor's solution? He personally washed the feet of each of them before they came into the church.

Hm. Latter-day Saints are probably the only ones you won't see casually discuss this subject and you won't see them doing this as just an act of kindness. There's a reason Jesus did this for his Apostles, and his Apostles alone, there is no other recording act of him doing this for others. To go with that, I'm usually disturbed to hear people refer to the twelve of Jesus' day as the Disciples. Yes, they were disciples of Jesus Christ, in every sense of the word, but Jesus very ritualistically and by a specific process demonstrated by Moses to Aaron, set apart and called these twelve disciples to then be Apostles, they're not your average follower, or disciple of Jesus Christ, they're Apostles who are special witnesses of Jesus Christ. Whatever the custom of the Jews in that time, perhaps was an ordinance in the Jewish tabernacle, which sanctity had become cheapened and perverted over time, as Satan loves to do to try and further spite God (we learn his goal is following his loss during the Great Council and War in the Pre-Existence) Jesus accepted this personally, by the woman who came before him that Judas, himself, scoffed at in an attempt to cheapen the act before the Savior and Great High Priest, Jesus then performed this for his Apostles restoring its sanctity and significance, its sacred nature and purpose. While it may be a kind act, Latter-day Saints do take it seriously as it's a sacred ordinance with a specific purpose with symbology that God uses to communicate a very specific message. Just as one wouldn't defile a church building, burn scripture, chainsaw down a cross, or anything like to it for fear and out of respect of offending God, this is very much like unto it. Jesus wasn't suggesting that people do, necessarily, as he did in that moment, but his message that he taught: Let he who is greatest among you, be your servant. Jesus was greater than them all, but knelt down to wash the dirt off of the feet of those he served and they would serve him. The washing of feet also isn't used to gain attention, or recognition as God never instructs anyone to do for to show, but is done as he did, quietly behind closed doors. "let not men see your actions, but do them privately". It's never for bragging rights or to look important, this was a sacred act, a sacred ordinance with a very sacred purpose. When was the last time you walked by a church to find a person tied to a cross out front? You wouldn't because it was a sacred act for a sacred purpose in that moment, so much so, that when Peter was condemned to die, it's believed he refused to die the same way as the lamb slaughtered before him, he wasn't going to cheapen or take away the sacred purpose of that, because he had not the authority given him from God himself to do so
