In this video, I asked several Spanish speakers who spoke the best and worst Spanish. I got plenty of answers, but my opinion is different. No matter what others think of the different accents, I think all of them work just fine. None of them are better than the others, they are solely used to communicate with people in a certain region Some may be closer to RAE Spanish while others may not and that's OK. Learn which ever dialect you want to learn!

Consider where the sample is drawn from though. You also might hanker for the accent of your homeland if you've been living abroad in a country where the primary language isn't your mother tongue. I wonder what the results would be if you went to a Spanish speaking country and asked the same questions.

Yo soy Venezolano!!!

This is such an interesting video. I really like the Argentine accent and the Venezuelan but also the Galicean accent of Spain when they speak Spanish. Really all accents I guess have their charm. I lived in Spain for a year and traveled back many many times. During that first year, it took me a few months to begin to even understand what the heck people were saying and then one day, all of a sudden it was if my ears just opened up. Prior to that first year, I had been to Venezuela and spent about a month their and was used to that accent and some other Latin American accents. Decades later, I starting visiting Argentina and initially, I found it a little difficult but got used to their way of speaking. I went once to Chile and found the accent a little tricky so when I hear other Latinos saying they find the Chileans hard to understand, I don't feel so bad. I've been to Mexico tons of times and like how they speak and find it pretty straightforward except they have some words and expressions that you eventually learn too. Guatemala was great and the people I found spoke pretty clearly. I have always heard that the Colombians speak an excellent Spanish but to me it just sounds clear but rather fast. I am a little indifferent about the way they speak. It doesn't sound necessarily posh to me but that's ok. This video was super helpful.

I agree all accents are great! People should never lose their accent, because it tells their story. As a frequent traveler to Spanish speaking countries and Brazil for work. You adapt to their accents, (Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Dominican, Spain, Uruguay, Guatemala, etc) because you want to be effective/understood and to fit in. People feel more comfortable and start opening up and that’s exactly what you want to experience their culture, in their country.

A lot of people are referring to Mexican SLANG accent not the standard Mexican accent. If you look at Mexican novelas they speak Spanish very clearly Mexican Spanish accent doesn't really have much of an accent. The ones saying they don't like Mexican accent they are referring to the slang accent which is used more from certian regions and it is also used in comedy a LOT like stand up because it's a very comical accent however it's NOT the standard it's considered to be part of street slang it's a very lazy way of talking.

I'm around Puerto Ricans 24/7 and I still can't understand a single thing they say, except for my mother in law, haha. The funny thing is I could understand most of what she says before I even really started studying Spanish. We always blamed in on our left handed brains having a special connection.

I personally don't like people make videos like this, because it only opens the doors more for judgement & may separate us as Latinos. There's no such thing as best accent. There's so many different accents & slang words in every country & region. They're all interesting, unique & beautiful. Don't put anyone down for something they can't help or assume ridiculous things about them because of a few people you've heard speak a certain way. An example: That guy that mentioned that Mexican accent is bad because of how he assumes they speak. First off, I'm Mexican/Italian & have never heard say, "chupar" for drink & second, we definitely do not sound like that at all. People could say the same about you, so think before you speak. Please people, stop making these kinds of videos. Don't try to make us compete with each other. We're all brothers & sisters. How about instead of "Who has the best accent?" Or "Who has the best food?" Or "VS" Type of videos, why not educate & learn from/about each other as Latinos & unite more. That's honestly what we need. Latinos Unidos. Ciao. ✌️❤️

I agree with the Venezuelan girl, the Spanish accent in Argentina (much like the people) is stuck up. Like the last girl said, "Sorry" (except I'm not, you guys are the effing worst pretentious people. That's why we all laugh at you and say "An Argentinian leaves Argentina just to see what it would look like without him"). I do agree with her on Cuban Spanish being terrible though. MODERN Cuban Spanish. It's what years of communism and poverty does to a community. Old Cuban Spanish is well-spoken and neutral. Personally I like Venezuelan Spanish (and no I'm not from there) as well as Colombian and OLD Mexican Spanish. There's a video that circulated of what they thought was Frida's voice (spoiler alert: it wasn't) but that accent...enchanting. It's both gentle and demanding. Worst accent...Dominican or Puerto Rican. Sorry my dude. Their Spanish is awful. They're too lazy to fully enunciate their words and their S's just disappear. My mom once heard a man say "Un pecado y do totone" (what he meant was "un peScado y doS toStoneS" meaning one fish and two twice-fried plaintains). Not only does it sound uneducated but it sounds vulgar. For those that don't know, in some Spanish-speaking countries toto means slang for pussy. You guys are finee though 😂 I've seen some good-looking men here that I find out are Dominican or half Dominican, just saying.

Since the accent of a person reflects the culture and class of the person, what is the best versus the worst Spanish, French, English, etc. is purely subjective. I lived in el D.F. for years, therefore, the Mexican accent from D.F. is normal. I can immediately tell someone from the provinces. Despite everything that I have just said, I like this video because Rickie Walls demonstrates to non-native Spanish speakers that, like English, not all Spanish is the same. Bravo, Rickie.
