A sentry gun is literally just a mortar stand with a metallic drum magazine attach to it, where the feeding portion of the drum is replaced by a camera and a small barrel. Level 2 adds two M134 barrel assemblies without flash hiders (the "thingy" he tried to mention in the video and yes that IS a flash hider, they just end up as a big shroud looking ring on multi-barrel configurations). Level 3 adds a rocket pod, which looks to me like a shortened version of the M202 FLASH launcher and rotates the ammo drum vertically. Where is the power stored? How does that tiny drum provide enough rounds for 2 miniguns AND a rocket pod? The world may never know...

Honestly it would be way funnier if the Sentry gun cannons were based off of the M61 Vulcans rather than the M134s. I mean it's overkill but so is being able to basically wave off internal bleeding by eating a sandwich.

The reason there's nothing resembling the buildings irl, is because this is the engineer's own design, he wrote the blueprints and did the math, making crude buildings to help his team or deter the other.

@@wurlmon5191 I'm fuzzy on lore and comic shit but if I remember correctly, his grandfather was only the start of it all, designing the australium life thingy and stuff. Plus I doubt his grandfather would be designing sentry guns and shit in his time, that's two generations back from the 1970s

I might add that the rescue ranger's waves indicate how many times can you teleport your buildings with it's secondary attack no waves: you cannot do it 'cause you don't have enough metal small waves: you can do it once big waves: you can do it twice

The Giger Counter is also based off of the ghost traps from Ghostbusters, given from the blue or red light coming from the front, the box like shape, and the caution tape style rim at the front

The "thingy"/"cone" on the front of the heavy's stock minigun is actually a flash hider/protector to protect the user from the muzzle flash as it can get quite intense and annoying over time

@@brianhood4791 which you likely wouldn't need on a (presumably) motor aimed, tripod mounted, machine gun... it will depend on the structural rigidity of the gimbals, as well as the ammunition...

@@brianhood4791 its a flash shroud, not a muzzle brake. The sole purpose is to reduce the obstruction of the gunners aim. Hence why guns like the A-10s GAU-2 lack a shroud. It has no recoil reducing effect, and if anything, would actually increase recoil slightly due to diverting more of the gas directly in line with the barrels.

something along the line of that exists but you have to rotate the drum manually and its not really practical its called the X-rail or something

Yes, but like as Rizzle said, it'd have to be manual, as the drum is not removed from the gun during reloading, meaning the drum's spring would have to be rewound after it empties. For an example of this, look up the Milkor MGL, a revolving 40mm grenade launcher that is reloaded as such.

@@thecrimsonviscount5689 The Sniper loads a new cartridge with each cycle of the bolt, so his rifles "clip" is really the max ammunition he has on his person. He manually reloads the gun after each shot (As seen in the final frames of "Meet the Sniper", even though this isn't actually seen in-game.

Stuff you Missed ('cause I'm bored and have too much time on my hands): *Shotgun:* The shotgun is also based more off of the Winchester Model 12 Trench Gun (with a modified stock), and also seems to take some inspiration from the 60's Remington Model 870 *Widowmaker:* The name is based off the term 'widowmaker'. (Valve is as creative as I am!) It's a term associated with things that are capable of killing men. *C.A.P.P.E.R.:* The name is apparently an acronym for "Captain's Advanced Pulsetron Particle Electromagnetic Raygun". "Capping" is also an euphemism for shooting someone. *Golden Wrench:* When someone is killed and turned into -gold- _pure Australium,_ Engineer has a chance of saying several "special" phrases. The phrases can also be triggered if he kills with a Saxxy or a Golden Frying Pan. *Jag:* A jag, or "cleaning jag", is a tool used to clean firearms. *Sentry Gun:* The original Sentry Gun designs were made by Radigan Conagher (Blu Engie's Grandfather) in 1890. He's apparently also responsible for the blueprints or invention of the teleporter, Southern Hospitality, and the Gunslinger.

this has probably been said before, but the reason the lugermorph "bug" is there, is because there was never a magazine nor magwell modelled for the weapon, so when the game plays the inspect animation, it moves the rig for something that isnt there, if that makes sense, the same thing happens during reloads but its easier to tell that on the scout

The sentry is mounted on a german ww1 era sled mount for the mg08 heavy machine gun. It gets a bit warped in the level 3 version.

i think Sentries are based on different things. At level one, the head is based on an old security camera, with a gun barrel instead of a lens. All quadripods (what all the sentries are stand on) are based on tripods used in machine guns from WW1 or something similar (look at Browning M1917 tripod). That's all, I don't want to make this too long. I like your content.

Has he mentioned the shotgun is an Ithaca but with the ejection port on the side? For those that don't know, the Ithaca's ejection port is the intake port, allowing it to be used ambidextrously.

Another thing: The rocket box thang on top of the lvl 3 sentry looks (and works) very similar to the M202 FLASH, but red/blue and veeery veery short. So that means there is an actual M202 FLASH that has four rockets (not just 3), shoots them all at once, and also has the four barrels to do just that.

Little Medic detail: The Medigun is a fire hose nozzle with a taped on barrel... like straight up, that's what it is. The "Quick Fix" is the same but with a blender and held together by electrical tape

The Rescue Ranger isn't based off the Ithaca, but instead a sawn down stock version of the Remington 870. You can see by the lining about the barrel.

The frontier justice was the only one that hadnt been sawn down but it's the shotgun with the least amount of bullets per magazine (aside from the force of nature or the soda poper)

about the stock shotgun: while it has the appearance of an ithaca 37, it is more likely something else sawed down, possibly a mossberg 500 or something? the ithaca 37 ejects from the bottom (the same port it loads from) and the tf2 shotgun has a side ejection port, more like a traditional shotgun.

The shotgun is an Ithica Model 37 with a sawn off barrel and it can be used by everyone except Scout, Demoman, Sniper, Medic, and Spy.

The Gunslinger also looks like the endoskeleton hand of the Terminator T-8000 series and is likely a reference to when the terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger sliced his arm open to inform Dyson about the future of the human race. Yes that was the left hand rather than the right, but still.
