Fernanda G it is normal, I’m 18 and never been in a relationship. I used to think that I need to be in a relationship because others have already experienced it. I eventually got out of that phase and focused on myself and my future goals. So, don’t feel weird or ashamed, focus on you. 😊

See here's the thing with some Latino families. When the girls are in high school the parents don't want their daughter(s) to have a boyfriend because they're young. But when they do they judge him a lot. Now come around college time that's when the parents are telling their kids when they're going to get married and have kids when just in high school they didn't like the idea of their daughter dating.

Natalie M Asians are the same except if you get married sometimes they ask you to live with their parents. my parents were fighting about this because they are mexican and Japanese so they were fighting whether the guy should live with my family or not. but clearly I'm like hell no! I'm like 16 and my mom(mexican) be asking me when I'm bringing a guy home and if I'm ever going to marry and my dad (asian) asking me to never bring one home. he will ask during college tho I just know it.

African parents will have you in the house by 8pm studying everyday in high school. Boyfriends/girlfriends are off the table, like don’t even think about it. In college they’ll tell you to focus and expect you to go on and get a PhD without dating. Then as soon as you are done they’ll be like: “why aren’t you getting married? You are not getting any younger.” Like wtf do you expect? I never dated, now you want me to be married 🙄

That is so true!!! I am going to college now and every one of my aunts or my mom’s friends are asking me, “Y EL NOVIO??” They constantly ask me if I like a boy or if I have a boyfriend or anything that is about dating. I always say no because this generation has more options and people are more picky. Like Curly said, you can be with a guy that has good dick or a guy with brains. But during our parents generation, they met whoever and married them young and had kids RIGHT AWAY. So I understand why they constantly ask.

I hate the "when are you gonna marry?" question. Man, this isn't 1960-80 its 2017. I havent even gotten my degree yet how am I supposed to support a spouse? work at minimum wage? NO. I get that marriage is nice and all but times have changed. Dating has changed. Why settle and be miserable when you can gain something better? Is the idea of not having a spouse so bad?

I cannot relate to anyone of y'all. My parents are old fashioned and are hella strict. However, they never mentioned marriage to me. they always pushed me to go to school and continue to get my bachelor's. Once I mentioned that I was interested in a guy, my parents freaked out. All they kept saying was "¿y tú educación?" (and your education?). they care only about me being successful and going to college. Not about kids or marriage

I remember my mama (grandma) vividly telling me what characteristics to look for in a man, when I was 10 years old lol I'm going to be 22 next month and all of a sudden that changed. She's all like "Mi hija, todos los hombres son basura. Mejor quadate soltera, y comprate una casa". Then there's my mom who thinks it's too late for me to find a man. Basically, that I'm not going to get married because I'm "old". It's all laughable, honestly. Everything about me goes against what my family tells me to do lol I want to get my Masters degree, move to a 3rd world country and provide communities with schools. I want to live my life humbly, and want to have someone who supports that lifestyle, I want my future kids to grow up knowing how to love people, you know? Like if they see someone without shoes, that they would give them their own shoes for the sake of love. It's funny because the whole reason my parents immigrated to America, is so that I wouldn't have to live in poverty. Here I am wanting to go to these places lol Btw, I want to have like 10 kids hahaha 5 biological 5 adopted. #rebel

I hear you about the limit. My Dominican grandmother asked me about having kids. For reference, I was 29 at the time, turning 30 in a couple of weeks and already married for a few years. When she asked if I was 30 yet, my mother was like, "NO, Jesús!" like I wasn't basically 30 already. I don't know what mom had in mind... Maybe that becoming pregnant and delivering a full-term baby in 14 days was possible or that she was protecting me in some way. After 30, Dominicans that I have encountered would rather believe that I couldn't biologically have children rather than the idea that I was waiting for a better time to have them. It is all truly wild.

I've been with my boyfriend for 5 years and we're actually thinking about getting married. we're both mexicans living in México and, even if my family isn't expecting kids from me, my grandma has been like "you've been with him for quite a while now, so you better get married or move on to the next boyfriend" since I turned 1 year with him lol so YES the pressure is real.

I'm 31 and married. i told my husband and mom to give me a year of marriage before we start trying for kids. my in-laws were great and gave me no pressure. once that one year mark hit i got pressure from all sides. we tried for 3 months and then i told them all i needed another year. I've been getting the pressure since i was 18. last year i had 7 cousins pregnant and I've been going to baby showers almost every month for a year and a half.

I'm 34 and am currently pregnant. I struggled for 2yrs to keep a baby and my Mom seems to be more excited about finally telling my Tias and Primas about it than me overcoming my struggles. I swear, who cares that I graduated college and have a good job. I think she'd be prouder of me had I stayed home and just popped out babies... I love my Parents but boy do they have different priorities.

I remember hearing and seeing other people freak out about it right after 20. Even a few family members would bring it up. I couldn't be phased in the least bit about it! I knew it was foolish to stress out about that at such a young age. Now, I'm a little older/wiser, and in a better headspace to evaluate what I want. The people before you have already lived their lives, they love you and want the best for you. That being said, you must realize you are the one that'll take the consequences of being married. Financially, physically, mentally, time-wise, and space wise. I'm not saying this is bad, but you have to be prepared for it and be realistic. If you and your partner aren't ready - forget it. When it's something both people truly want with each other, it really is beautiful. Take your time, and make the most of life. For the people who pressure you, talk to them, remember "Hablando se entiende la gente."

I don't think I ever felt pressured ( although it does get mentioned to me a lot)and I always made it clear to my parents I wanted stability before marriage or kids. Now that I'm getting older, I've been in a long term relationship for awhile now and my finances are to where I'm comfortable it's a much more real conversation. That being said I've also made it clear to my s.o. either way I'm good but I would like to know if the option is on the table or if I should just carry on as is.

I just don't get it, like why would you pressure your kid like that? Let them live their own life and make their dreams come true, geez. Even if they never get married or will not have kids, it's not a tragedy for marriage is no light deal and people should have kids when they are 100% sure they are prepared and they want them.

Hi there! That is really an interesting topic. I am coming from Rusisia ( but Iam not Russian). In my country there are still a believe to get married, the sooner -the better. Everybody is doing that. As a kid we moved to one countries of Europe. So I spend the most part in my life in this country. In theese days I have been in the relationship for almost 20 years. They happened so quick, they were totally awesome, And we are not married. It works for me. I feel safe and loved. I dont think that the wedding ring is a guarantee for happiness. I had my first child when I was 33. Anyway, lika the Curly said, it is good to have an option. And it is up to a every person, it is your life, You have to live it the best way possible. By the way, I love you channel, you make me laugh :))) I wish you the best :)

I'm recently turned 20 and have never had a boyfriend and I think that concerns my mom a bit and I'm sure she's always telling her friends and our family since I'm constantly getting questions like 'tienes novio?' 'Cuando vas a tener un novio?' Part of the reason is that I don't think most guys my age are all that interested in me, so it's not really my choice hahah but I've been told that I can be intimidating sometimes and if someone just passes by me on the street I just don't look interested at all and that I seem quiet/serious and I can be but I can also be quite a bit talkative and loud oops haha but also I'm a full time student and I have 2 jobs to pay for college out of pocket so I don't have all of the free time in the world and sure there might be people in a similar situation that have a significant other but for me at the moment that's not a priority anyways, if it happens then cool but I'm not going to be actively looking for someone so it is my fault as well. Plus after college I plan to be living in Japan or Korea (depending on which language I'm better at when the time comes haha but I'd still like to visit both) so if the guy isn't cool with coming with me then it won't be a very long relationship, if all goes well then I have 3 years left and I'm pretty sure I won't get a boyfriend today or anytime in the near future so that's less time so maybe I'll just wait until I'm a bit more settled down but yeahhhhh my dad on the other hand is okay with me not having a boyfriend, he has that 'eres mi princesa chiquita y pienso que todavía tienes 5 años cuando en verdad ya eres una adulta' type of attitude so I'm sure he'll be totally okay with me becoming a cat (well in my case dog or turtle haha) lady. I do hope to find someone and get married one day but I'm okay with waiting longer and don't really want to rush it, but I want to know where I'll meet the guy (like if I go to Japan will i meet him there?) or if I've already met him like I just want to know! The universe doesn't have to tell me his name just whether I've met him or not and if not then where will we meet haha oh well that's my rant for today best wishes to everyone that has read all of this (which is probably no one but still best wishes even if you haven't read this)! I'm not Latina, I'm actually Bengali but our cultures are very similar as I've seen through Pero Like. We might have different languages, history, food and clothes but I see the way boys and girls are raised, the topic of kids/marriage, etc are on the same level of thinking. I'm only 20 but like Curly said, the topic of marriage has always been there even in small ways with the "When you get married" or "when you have kids". I see it with my elder sister who's a few years younger than you guys, but is still getting pressure from extended family. Our parents, however, are more understanding since she got her PharmD so she was in school for so long. But my sister, my mom and I always have discussions on the dynamic of women and men within marriage, both the couple themselves and the family surrounding the relationship. I love these talks because regardless of where you're from, these will probably always be relevant topics

When I was 31, my father and I had a heart to heart [love roadtrips]. He some how blamed himself for my sister and I not being married. It was heartbreaking to hear him voice such concern and truely belive it was his fault for my sister and I to be such strong independent women. Now I'm 33 and my sister is 31. She and her husband celebrated 1 year of marriage and have a baby on the way. He still blames himself for me not setting down.

Now that I'm over the age of 30, I've gotten the aren't-you-worried-at-your-age question a couple of times, as if your ovaries magically dry up and blow away once you're out of your twenties. My brother and sister-in-law have been asked when they are having kids several times and it's exasperating for them, because they don't want children. Thankfully, my mom doesn't put pressure on either of us because she realizes it's our lives.

Yes, there's a lot of pressure. Even yet being married and having a kid....we still get "cuando van a tener otro Bebe," "mira esta solito el niño," o "ya esta grande" etc. but my husband and I are pretty happy just having one, we get to enjoy our son and be more prepared for the second one economically. Plus we still get to go out now and then.

after finding the one too soon i admit i actually dont think i want kids, as the youngest of 3 its a pain since my older sibling cant have kids and has gone threw the phase of being god parent to lots of kids so they have it out of system, my middle sibling does but she doesnt have anyone since she is a pain to deal with. Also my parents are cool if i dont have any kids too which is nice, but my other half, he wants kids, his family wants us to have them amd they have all these plans but... that is where the presure is, he has never asked if i wanted them, i have he posibility of carrying twins (rather do 9 months with 2 and get it done and over with than 18 months with 2 and do the process twice over). But im unsure if 1 i want them and 2 can i even cope because at the moment im trying to look after a manchild (yeah he does nothing but work with no pay and study so not as bad) but still i get the tantrums and everything, sometimes i question if i can do this with mini ones but ... i dont think i can . I wish i coudl talk with his and figure it out but i dont think that is ever gunna happen

So real. I lived with my now husband for a couple years, and my parents would always asked when we'd get married. We got married, and the constant questions of the kids is asked by everyone now. People will ask, and we gotta dodge the question all the time. They'll come to our house and say, "wow, this house is so big, you need kids." Or make weird assumptions when I say I dont drink. People need to stop asking questions, and putting pressure on others. We all have a story, our priorities, our goals. Whether one wants to get married, or if and when to have kids should be one's decision. You do you!
