I can't remember who it was, but I remember someone saying every photographer will own 6 tripods in their life, and advised that people spend the money to just buy the 6th at the beginning. I'm already on #5 and wish I had listened.

Hi @uncle0eric, yes, I absolutely agree. It's better to invest more into a really tripod instead of an expensive camera. A good tripod will even survive a couple of cameras. And don't worry because of #5, by the way: I owned already many more than just 6 tripods 😉 Enjoy your Sunday, Christian

Good video! I actually never removed the rubber feet haha. Never used those spikes underneath. Maybe I should try it sometimes. Totally agree on that center column. Just use it if you need it. Grt guido

Hi Guido, I can really recommend, as that's really such a big difference with spikes: the connection between tripod and ground gets simply tighter, so it leads to less micro vibrations, which gets especially important when there is wind, for instance. Have a great Sunday, Christian

I have actually been shooting with a cheap ball head I got from Aliexpress on my manfrotto tripod, and it never had that drooping problem. So I was surprised when i purchased a new tripod with an original MAnfrotto ball head on , and it drooped noticeably. And I ended up purchasing another of those cheap ones, lol. They do wear out quicker than the expensive ones though. I think maybe the problem is that the Manfrotto ball head only has one tightening screw/handle, while my cheapo ball head has two, oposite to each other. for finer adjustments. But I have not used it for long, front heavy lenses, as imostly have wide angle lenses.

Hi Rune, the interesting thing is that there are indeed some cheaper tools out there with a stunning high quality. It seems that you had really luck with your first one. Really cool 🙂 Thanks a lot for your insights, my friend! Have a great Sunday, Christian

Good tips Christian. It's funny I just bought a new ball head for the exact reason you said in this video. I really need to go to Tripods Anonymous, I have way too many tripods! 😂 Thanks for sharing the video buddy cheers

Hi Adrian, thank you so much, buddy! I also used weak ballheads for years. But that's really such a big difference 🙂 And yes: tripods seem to have that behavior to get duplicated by themselves inside the shelf 😬 Enjoy your Sunday, Christian

One of those questions about tripod and image stabilisation is: should you leave the image stabilisation on, or off, when shooting from tripod? And again, the answer for me is: "it depends". IBIS seems not to harm image quality though, whereas OIS (in the lens) on a body that doesn't have IBIS is better disabled when shooting from a tripod. That is my observation. Then, in windy conditions, IBIS can certainly help when shooting on a tripod.

Hi Tim, thank you for your thoughts, my friend! Hm, I think to remember that I made already a video about this topic, where I even made tests with and without stabilization. It's already some years ago, but I picked it out for you: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdyYe7d8vNGsmWg.html Stabilization became even better meanwhile. But however, I agree: there are definitely differences between ibis and lens stabilization, and in my experience there are even big differenes between the lenses. I think, it's always good to test new gear at home for different things, just to find out how I have to use it later out in the field, to get the best possible results 🙂 Have a great Sunday, Christian

Last week I drove off, leaving my tripod at the estuary. My other tripod is broken. The ball-head on my Manfrotto monopod is kaput. It's not easy being me at the moment. Cheers for the tripod video.....

Tje best change I made with my tripod was from ball head to geared head. I find it much better for precise adjustments.
