Suga, RM, and JHope have brought so many fans into Korean music. Suga is the reason I went down the BTS rabbit hole and then became a rapline fan. Their lurics, messaging, concepts are art meets content! Suga’s lyrics (Polar Night, Snooze, Huh) are so underrated-absolute genius!

I still believe that Suga and RM are on different levels nowadays when it comes to their solo songs especially Suga. It's not just their talents and songwriting that I really respect, but also they stayed down-to-earth and just keep on working without comparing their success to other artists and just let the audience decide. It's a shame when you put yourself in a higher position when others think of you in a different way. 🇵🇭

I am a 60 year old ARMY. I live in NY. Worked in NYC subways for 20 years. I am a true OG hip hop/rap fan. I saw the birth of hip hop. Listened to all the true founders of modern hip hop. Basically every OG mentioned in Hip hop lover I grew up listening to. I understand Hip hop culture includes not just Rap, but dance, beat boxing, art(graffiti)etc. BTS Rap line are true Hip Hop. They manage to transcend language barriers in a genre defined by style, rhythm, and wordplay. Rap is Rhythm And Poetry. Our rapline writes their own music. Always has, always will. These 3 gentlemen personify these basic hip hop tenets. Each has their own style based on their own personality. They all remain true to themselves. (Whichever self they happen to need to be that day! LOL!) Namjoon, Yoongi and Hoseok accomplish all this on a global scale.Through the efforts of them, and their BTS brothers, ARMY, and HYBE, global awareness of Korean culture has grown at an unprecedented rate. Big Hit became Hybe -an addition to the "Big 3" entertainment companies. Hybe now has subsidiaries all over the world. Jay Park is a rapper/ businessman entrepreneur. (and a good one). His career is successful and in some ways inspiring. He has overcome setbacks and recreated himself in order to succeed. He has helped his fellow S. Korean rappers by giving them a place to grow creatively, without placing limitations on their creativity. However, Globally, not so much. K hip hop is not perceived as a separate entity from k pop outside of Korea. At least not in the west. (The west has a hard time seeing that which it does not want to .) In conclusion, No, Jay Park is not even close to the most successful Korean rapper globally. He is simply not even in contention for that title. He is the frog in the well. This does not mean he is not talented and successful. This simply means Jay Park has been outclassed by the rapline of BTS.

Suga filled up all the concert arenas in NY,NJ,Chicago California...his performances & stage presence...out of this world. I appreciated rap coz of BTS RM,Suga, & Hobi... I don't care about other rappers you mention here coz they don't have impact in my life, it doesn't matter who started it. What matters to me is who has the POSITIVE INFLUENCE & IMPACT in my life & that's ONLY BTS, period. As an ARMY, I Stan BTS not only for their artistry but more so because of their HUMILITY.

I have always listened to rap/hip hop and one day Cypher Pt4 popped up. Well that was it. Rapping about loving yourself? That was amazing and unusual so I had to know more, and the rest is history. I listen and/or watch BTS every day now and would be lost without ALL of them. Critics, other rappers, Jay Park etc who may not be ARMY seem to still be embarrassed to say they love the BTS rapline. Why would you be embarrassed about great flows and beats, insightful lyricism, deep meanings and amazing production? And out of all the members, them being the 3 main writers for BTS shows what a contribution they make and influence they have both on BTS music and the other members.💜

All I can say on the topic is that I did not listen to ANY rap before BTS which I became ARMY in 2017. I did not have an interest, though I heard it through a few songs on the radio here and there, but I was not listening to them, does that make sense? Hearing rappers (American, Asian or any other) before 2017 I did not care too much for it, but since BTS I have gained a better ear for Rap, through BTS. I have gained knowledge and a little more understanding. If it were not for BTS, I probably still would not have listened or cared for any Rap to this day. Now, I know who these rappers are through BTS and do research when BTS mention or do a collab, which again would never have done if it weren't for BTS. I do make a point of listening to a few songs from other rappers, just so I know who they are but Hahaha!!!! unfortunately, I still don't care to listen to other rappers besides BTS. To me Suga, RM and Jhope are my rap gods!!!

I love that you made this video. When I watched that interview of JP on PSick I just cringed at what he was saying. The faces of the guys listening to him say that had me laughing because they looked at him as if he was delusional. And it’s because he is! He started out at an idol! RM and Suga have always been rappers. They were underground rappers who became idols. JP was an idol who became a rapper. He was trained while RM and Suga was self taught. The truth is the world knows more about South Korea music and Kpop because of BTS. JP comes off as a delusional narcissist when he speaks and low key jealous. Is he a successful Korean rapper….Yes! This is a fact. But globally it is RM and Suga.

Thank you very much for bringing up the obvioud because I really dislike Jay Park's arrogance. During JHope's appearance in his show, it was so obvious to see the difference between their character. Jhope was so naturally down to earth while Jay Park was obviously trying to compete with the attention Hobi was getting. I remember how Jay Park almost stumbled during their dance show down..he couldn't beat Hobi's cool yet exceptional moves. In fact, hobi was way better in dancing Jay Park's own song.😅

I am ARMY so My opinion may seemed biased but I have been following kpop and korean music since a decade now, and I love love rap and hiphop, I grew up listening to rap songs from west and from my part of the world as well, So when I got into korean music I wanted to learn about k rap..... I agree to everything she said in this video, Korean undergroung have some good rappers with mesage, ngl I dont listen to them these days but the mainstream ones and the ones who actually started always would be tiger jk , epic hugh, dymanic duo atleast for me.. i used to like Jaypark's rnb music more than his rap songs... He is a succesful person on his own place, he has some company, owns own soju brand, has given a place for many k rappers and dancers..... He is doing very good on his career and there is no denying on it... but, if we talk global, I really dont think his reach is as far as epic high alone, but If we talk about korean rap and global reach, The title alone would go to BTS rapline, from sales, to streams to actually gather audience and get people ineterested in korean rap scene in the west... I have actually some friends here in aus, like real rap nerds who actually listen to agust d,...... Biggest artists collab to shout out to selling shows, Hobi's lolla was all hiphop, heavily rap focused, first k rapper to headline major us music festival, agust d highest selling first day, hghest grossing tour, RM alone has 216 writing credits................ If we talk about global influence NOone in Korea can come near to BTS's rapline even if they scream tthat one top of their lungs.........

J Hope's collab with J Cole alone brought many of Cole's fans to become aware of k rap. Agust D Daechwita also had a similar impact both globally and in Korea. Indigo also did well with many US artist featuring. In terms of influence on Korean rap and their fellow rappers or rap listeners (who listen to rap primarily), they are not the most influential imo. They do not focus enough on rap to be influential in the rap community. That goes to BeWhy and Dok2 in this generation. Also, Tiger JK and Epik High generally.

BTS rapline have been fans of hiphop since they were young. They know the roots well. Namjoon and Yoongi have been underground rappers while Hobi was also connected deeply to hiphop music a lot since he was dancer as he said himself. I feel BTS rapline is not trying to show the hiphop as an aesthetic that everyone else does. Most of these kpop rappers are not here for the true meaning of hiphop and rap. They are mainly in love with the aesthetic of being cool and swaggy. Usually you will see them think rapping can only be fast or just hardcore while most of the times their lyrics have no substance at all

RM doesn't need to sell out stadiums solo or go on tour to solidify himself as the father of Hip Hop or rap in Korea. I think Suga's skills are impressive and he has made a name for himself especially from a production perspective but the soul of Hip Hop and Rap is lyricism and wordplay and NO ONE comes close to RM's pen when it comes to that. Just listen to Yun and you'll understand. Also, RM's cadence and his understanding of bars is INSANE! Just listen to BTS Cypher part 2 and Ddaeng. Namjoon is the father of Korean Hip Hop/Rap, alongside Suga, Epik High (Mostly Tablo).

I am an army and even Namjoon , Yoongi and Hoseok they are well aware they are not the fathers of korean hip/hop and rap you can listen to hiphophile to realize this. They are well aware of those who came before them and inspired them. Its well known he really respects his hip hop hyungs by making collabs with them. You can listen to Timeless by Tiger JK to see where im coming from. Even tho they did not invented, created and are fathers of korean hip hop they most definitely have made a huge impact to bring korean hiphop and rap to more people but still we gotta pay credits where they are due to the rappers who did really started korean hiphop

Suga and RM's songwriting and productions are good, but we should not give them undo credit. Even in rap currently, their rap is not far above their peers enough to call them that. @@DualPippaAgreed, as a fan of BtS rapline, claiming they're the best rappers or father of korean hip-hop is so disrespectful to the real ones, considering BTS themselves payed respect to the OG, or the actual rappers who influenced & came before them. Also, you'll never hear BTS bragging they're the best or claiming they're the biggest/successful rapper in SK unlike Jay Park. Besides, BTS doesn't need to be the best rappers, best singers, best dancers. I just like them for what they are. Doesn't matter to me if others don't consider them as rappers or artists.

And I knew Jay Park way back when he was a member of 2PM and after he left the group and make himself a Hiphop soloist. Yes, he has a talent yet I don't like his music honestly. Maybe because I can't resonate with it. But with Suga most specifically, his Agust D music were like a diary of mine and responses to my unspoken questions. 💜 To me, the most globally recognized korean Rapper and hiphop artists were Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok، Kim Namjoon.

I like 2 give credit where credit is due: i really respect his tenacity 2 not only come back 2 korea after the 2pm thing, but 2 also form his own record label. from wut i understand, his connection w/ roc nation was 4 a limited time, & he had 2 many obligations n asia 2 commit 2 coming 2 the states 2 push his career farther here. I actually like his r&b songs better personally than his rap, but he has rapping skills- i agree his rap songs lack substance that i care about. he also can dance well, so he is a triple threat, but i respect most his work w/ his label-n that way he has had a direct impact on a lot of careers, but hybe is a thing that wouldn't exist w/out bts, so i don't know how 2 compare them since they aren't the same, but that's something 2 note. all that being said, globally, like not just usa & sk, suga, rm, & jhope i think take the cake, & i think substance wise as well, but that is just my opinion & i am biased✌💜🙏

I really appreciate your straightforward and concise exploration of this topic. I didn't watch the Jay Park interview, and frankly, don't really care what his opinion is on other artists, but this was still very interesting to watch. I will be looking up The Quiet after this. No one can deny that Jay Park is successful. He has the combination of skill, business savvy and hussle to get shit done. However, he also sounds like an arrogant ass every time he opens his mouth. That, combined with his seeminly inability to take responsibility when he messes up, has made me lose all respect for him. When I first heard his music, I really liked some of it; however, it lacks the substance to be long lasting. No one is going to give a damn about most of his music in time. It seems like he's better known for being a jackass than for his music. (I guess that's one business strategy.) Epik High, Suga, and Namjoon's music has more substance to me. There's nothing wrong with superficial music for fun, but if that's the full extent of your discography, you are easily traded out for a new model. Also, if you have to be the one to call yourself a Legend, you are not a legend.

using the metrics i used, Jay Park is nowhere near the top for sales, streamings, and concerts. if we talk of helping other Korean rappers, i would consider him 2nd to The Quiett. If we talk of messaging or substance, i would put him in the lower part. not really the bottom but still lower half. that's my opinion. for your second question, he isn't even close to RM, Suga, Jhope in terms of influence, achievements and social impact. like, he is so far. i'd say Soyeon (the leader of girlgroup (G)I-dle) has more artistic and social impact. personal growth, i don't know him so i can't answer this. legacy, he is helping a lot of rappers. his labels provide rappers marketing support without meddling with their artistry. But The Quiett did it first and continues to do it.

Until BTS I didn't really like RAP - American RAP that is - but I love Suga, RM, & J-Hope's styles. Old-school American RAP was message-based before women, drugs, and money became the focus. It's nice to see Korean rappers defending their tradition. Thank you & fantastic video as always. Love your style & I'm amazed "THIS" isn't your full-time job.

As for Epik High well they are really good friends with yoongi and he even produced a song for there latest album. The Quiet sounds like a good guy thats trying to help the rappers to go further and j park should be counting his blessings for meeting him.I am 52 and the only other band to impact my life was coldplay and to have had BTS and them create a fabulous song was it for me. BTS has become who i will talk about with my friends and family since i dont know any ARMY. When they bring out solo work i dont choose 1 over the other like i see alot of people do because i believe that ARMY is the group BTS fans and not just 1 out of the 7 if your choosing 1 then you making that person a solo artist and they have not split from the group.I hope they continue to wow us with there creative genius when they come back. They have brought me many happy moments with there music and when they are so random and funny in bon voyage or in the soop or run BTS so i am thankful,Also the speculation about here gender and sexuality is really nobodys business and i only hope they have as much happiness in there life that they have given me.

As usual, great video with impeccable research! I know very little about Jay Park, nor do I wish to know more since he seems to embody what I've come to hate about Western hip hop most: bragging about irrelevant stuff and self-aggrandizing. The fact that he, from what I understand, has compared himself to RM and Suga in particular on numerous occasions and for his own validation says to me that he's insecure and not as great as he pretends to be.

First of all, how many categories do you have to put up, to show that Jay Park hasn't made the biggest impact? His Ego! Also, I think that Jay Park saying himself that he's made the most impact in the rap world, turns me off. Yes, he has a following. He reminds me of Donald Trump, the way he brags. A few months ago, I did a man on the street question asking, Who is Jay Park? Not one person I asked, had a clue who he was. I'm in the United States, that may have had an impact of the people not knowing who he was. Not one person knew him, so this shows, a piece of his world impact so far in 2023.

It is beyond belief how the Korean music industry and media either downplay or pretend BTS is non- existant regarding any global success that is infact attributed to them on every level. It is infact arrogant and insulting to all of the efforts of Bangtan to bring the entire status of Korean Culture to the world's stsge and succeed in raising it's global level to heights never seen or done before. The power they hold is undeniable and unsuppressable although some try to claim it or use it for nefarious reasons such as greed and envy.. it is transparent and pretty pathetic although the public will eat it up as they often do along with their specific idol stans claims to fame ....all with a sheepish grin! I might add, the truth hurt the most! 😅 Unless he reclassifies what good rap is, or puts himself on top of the rapper podium in a single category with songs about $ex and d#ugs in Korea! Which also makes me question this position, because "All nights" is there; some Namjoon and Suga features are also out there, like Sex Nunkim, Smoke Sprite, Change pt2, etc. And I'm not even a fan of them, but I remember perfectly of "Make a wish" by NCT

I've been seeing the use of Idol Rapper as a derogatory term in some of these comments. And I am coming from the United States so take that into account but I am hearing rappers and other artists here in the states speak admiringly and even longingly of what Kpop artists are able to accomplish with the training they receive and with the reach of their fan bases that they work so hard to build. I know there is a dark side to the Kpop industry and a fluffy side to some of the music but not all of it-BTS's music has grown to be truly extraordinary across the board from the content of their songs, the themes of their albums and lyrics, the visuals they create with their MVs, the phenomenal choreography and stage performances, the strength and range of their vocal line and the strength and depth of their rap line-they are just an extraordinary team who are outstanding individual performers who become truly phenomenal performers when they work as a team. As I understand Jay Park's story, he had that tremendous drive for music as a young child to the point that his mother tricked him into entering into a competition he thought was for money but that was really for a chance to train with a Kpop team. He left Seattle and went to Korea because he loved music and loved dancing. His path has been different from the members of BTS but he has continued to love music and dance and has continued to strive to do what he loves. He has and continues to make great music. His focus is different from that of Namjoon, Min Yoongi and J Hope but he has lived a different life and has had different influences. Perhaps he flexes and that is grating for some to hear but that sort of flexing is a very natural, accepted, expected part of rap in America where Jay Park started and had alot of his formative time. Both types of rap can be good and appreciated without having to put the other type of rap down as inferior. Go back to American Hustle Life when the boys of BTS were challenged to make a music video like a true American hiphop video-They had the chains from Warren G, they needed a flashy car and girls for the MV to complete the American hiphop MV formula. Look now at Jay Park's Mommae MV-I love that song alot-I drive my adult children crazy listening to that song-but I was startled the first time I saw the MV--but I realize now that it is pure, classic American hiphop formula per Warren G...just coming to Korea thanks to Jay Park. It's art and these folks are artists creating with music, visuals and dance and with helping new artists get started creating new art. All of that is good-if flexing is part of that sometimes, just roll your eyes if you must and let them flex. Chances are, that flexing is as much to convince a young artist to let them help him or her as to really assert the content of the flex.

When it comes to RM tbh let’s be real 🤚🏾 I think somehow it is downplaying him by saying he’s just a rapper ( being a rapper is great don’t misunderstand me) but because since this chapter started he showed us that he’s so much more he’s a real rounded musician that can fit and do it all and I love this about him even his albums are so different all the 3 of them and he never brags about it or act like he’s different, he’s just doing his thing As for other bts members too and I love that about them so much 👏🏾 so that man putting himself above everyone it’s funny I mean you can hype yourself without being ignorant and act like you’re the GOAT when you’re actually not , I don’t know 🤷🏾‍♀️

Exactly! RM is soooo much more than just a rapper. He is a rapper, songwriter, lyricist, poet, leader, composer, producer and even a dancer. He is an all-rounded MUSICIAN. He is truly GIFTED. He understands music in a way that most people don't. That's how he is able to just know instinctively, what sounds good and what doesn't. He is ABSOLUTELY phenomenal. So phenomenal that his brilliance goes over armys' heads. I swear this fandom and this world in general doesn't deserve him. He is the GOAT. (GREATEST OF ALL TIME).

You're not mentioning RM's impact at all and what he's done for new underground Hip Hop groups like Balming Tiger, his INSANE lyricism and his INFLUENCE in art and how that translates into his message in music and Korean hip-hop as a whole. 1st Asian to be signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Awarded the 1st Game Changer award by The Smithsonian. In all seriousness though, how would it be a fair comparison when Jay Park doesn't tour and is one of the busiest people in that industry (he owned 2 labels with about 20 ish artists/producers in each label while doing his US/Roc Nation thing) and to call him too western, well he is American and his style is leaned more towards 1990's style than the modern so he's in the niche. As I said, he doesn't tour much (he plans to do one last one), but he has got lots of music festivals both domestically and some occasionally internationally, some for universities (where the money goes to paying off university students' loans), TV-shows and Soju pop-ups, and brand deals. With the things I've written below, unfortunately, I don't know if he'll do US activities unless he gives up / stops all he's doing currently or has done for years, that being a multi-CEO-artist hybrid. Especially as he has teased his retirement since 2018 (10 years into his career at that time) Jay is 15 years into his career, where he has been an idol for 1 year -> 2 years after started his solo career -> 3 years after he started his solo career, launched his 1st label AOMG -> 4 years after AOMG, launched H1GHR Music his 2nd label + Roc Nation signee (by the age of 30 - was in the Forbes 30 under 30's list in Asia 2017) -> 5 years after H1GHR Music, launched his own Soju brand, Won Soju and his 3rd label More Vision, where he plans on debuting idol group(s) (stepped down his CEO pos. in AOMG [9 years at that time] and H1GHR [5 years at that time], but then those 40 ish artists became big names especially the younger ones (H1GHR) - I know other ppl in the khiphop world have labels too, but they are more tight-knit. 1llionaire closed down like some others recently, Swings owns like +3 labels (average of 5 artists/producers) where the majority has been into illegal stuff. No doubt that JP is one of the best CEOs in the industry and is considered a role model to lots of K-pop idols and incoming khiphop artists as well and he doesn't charge ppl if they want him as a feature on a song like ppl in the West. He's not as egotistical as people view him, but with what he has done in such a small time frame with ups and downs, then I guess it doesn't harm too much that he comes off that way occasionally. JP never got that glamourous Grammy/billboard career, but throughout his career, he has mentioned that he doesn't focus on numbers or charts to have success and even encourages his artists to not get caught up in it or do music purely for those numbers and charts. Remember JP only started his career to help support his family, then it became friends, and other artists (even those outside his labels - with SMTM, unpretty rapper, High school rapper, and even outside SK - have done more features than released solo stuff without charging) All in all, JP has been family oriented and community oriented helping uplifting people around him with the occasional selfishness. Speaking of which he'll probably do in these coming years as his retirement approaches. He has done a lot for people showing that he is selfless and the people around him have credited him, people in the industry view him as their role model, and fans or not jumps on forums and requests certain artists to join one of JP's label when they are let go off their old company. When talking about his retirement, JP has said that he'll retire so he can take aback relax for once and live for himself and can be more selfish, as he has been in that leader esk pos. since his early 20's with 2pm and being CEO and until his idol group debuts, JP finally can focus a bit more on his own solo career.

You're missing someone extremely important. The man who links all 3 aspects of Korean hip hop culture. He's respected in the underground for his creative word play, his openness with his personal struggles of loneliness, depression and struggles to connect in his lyrics and helping to create the foundation of korean hip hop when the scene was small. He's respected in the mainstream for his unmatched charisma and stage presence netting him 1.5 million monthly Spotify listeners and 2.3 million albums sold despite not releasing an album in 6 years before BTS broke open the gates to hundreds of millions of fans. Idol rappers respect him for creating a whole new style that was bright and colorful yet smooth and combining it with American swag rap creating the kpop idol style that we now see as the standard kpop idol stlye and also created the position of idol rapper. If impact is how we're judging the most successful korean rapper there's one who comes out on top. The man who created the style that all idol rappers followed, The man that Dok2 co-founder of illionaire records considers a big brother. The man who helped break hip hop into the korean mainstream and korean hip hop to the world. The man who Suga and even Jay Park with his huge ego give the highest measure of respect. I think we all know who he is.

Bragging about yourself and your abilities is a big part of hip hop. There is nothing outrageous about Jay Park’s claim. It’s very normal amongst rappers. We don’t have to agree with him, but we don’t have to be shocked by his claim either.

i partially agree. bragging is part of hiphop but it's not part of Korean culture. so, technically, it's not Korean Hip Hop. that's why in the Psick Show, the guy in the middle, the one that asked Jay Park about his song, the way he phrased the question and his expression says it all, "what the hell were you thinking". it's like, "this is not who we are". so yes, bragging is part of hiphop. i once said that it's like being in a basketball court, you hear players trash talking a lot and 99% of what they say, they will never say off court. it's just the game. but it's not innat to Korean.

@@AsianEntertainmentandCulture No one mentioned it being Korean culture though? Khiphop is most influenced by American Hip Hop so obviously a lot of that culture will also be part of Korean Hip Hop. 피식대학 is literally a comedic company. You are reading way too deeply into everything they say. I don't blame you though. @mo mo I think MC Meta, one of the few to actually first introduce hiphop in Korea and form the identity of Korea n Hiphop will disagree with you @SJ A Hiphop came from the west, anything hiphop is associated inspired by the west. however, if all you do is copy the west, that's not hiphop. you are missing the point of hiphop. hiphop came from the struggles of African Americans but you aren't supposed to copy them. you are supposed to form your own. i am assuming you are not American (correct me if i'm wrong). so if any Korean rapper is out there saying they are just influenced by American hiphop and nothing more, that's not hiphop. when it's hip hop, yes, you are supposed to think deep about it.

@@AsianEntertainmentandCulture Well I get where you're coming from, but the music Hip Hop came from America right? The way the music is composed has to be influenced by where it came from. If you make it too unique or different, it won't be considered Hip Hop. If you listen to Korean Hip Hop and American Hip Hop, in some parts they are very similar and in some other parts, they are quite different.

Hi again. I am from the US so I must not be understanding something that has happened to give rise to the need for this video. My comments are not meant to challenge anything you are saying. I want to mention a couple of things that I had noticed this spring: First, I hadn't even heard of Jay Park until this spring when his song Yesterday showed up on my Tidal feed-but I began learning about him, following him and loved the back story of him being from Seattle here in the States. I really like his R&B music but I love some of the raps too-especially those he was doing when he was signed to Roc Nation-the first Asian American artist to ever sign with Roc Nation. One thing I learned about Jay Park recently was that he got into rap very young-like 2nd or 3rd grade-listening to Warren G's Regulate. This Spring when I was following Jay Park more closely, I was watching clips from his KBS show, Jay Park's Drive and saw that he was having J Hope on. I had been aware of BTS for along time but not following them closely. J Hope's appearance on Jay Park's Drive completely changed all that and brought me into the BTS fold-other ARMY say I'm J Hope baby ARMY. During that appearance, Jay Park asked J Hope how he felt when Jay Park had put himself in the same league with BTS-and I think he mentioned Jay Z as well-in a verse on stage at an awards show-at least that was the context I got for the question-I may have completely misunderstood the context though. Obviously J Hope is too well mannered to object but I thought it spoke volumes that he chose Jay Park's show to go onto to debut his On The Street song and to do several other songs and an interview before he enlisted. Perhaps something else has occurred to create friction. I also noticed in Jungkook's last Weverse that he chose to close off the Weverse so to speak by pulling up Jay Park's Yesterday and singing along, then humming the melody and then praising the song. I've been noticing more and more that Jungkook doesn't seem to do things at random. To close, I want to go back to Jay Park first getting into rap with Warren G's Regulate. I had heard that Bang Si-hyuk sending BTS to Hip Hop camp in LA was a very formative experience for them early on and I've been watching through the Mnet reality series they filmed while they were in LA at that Hip Hop camp. I know I'm watching a reality TV show but the interactions of the young BTS when they are met by Warren G and squired around his old stomping grounds, bought their first gold rapper chains, and then challenged by Warren G to look at their lives and journeys and tasked with writing their own verses to his iconic Regulate brings me joy that artists are inspiring one another, learning from one another and sharing those connections no matter how disparate their paths end up.

oh that Warren G episode was epic! actually that whole experience was an important one for BTS. a lot of ARMYs don't like, and I have to admit even I feel pain in some parts of it. but it did help them grow. I believe that going through something like that contributed to who they are right now as artists. For Jay Park - What happened Jay Park, in one of his songs, aligned himself with great Korean contemporary artists like Bong Joonho (director and writer of Parasite) and BTS. When he appeared in the Psick Show, he was asked to clarify his statement and he said, in so many words, he did to Korean hiphop what Bong Joonho did for Korean movies and what BTS did for Korean music and Korean culture. Who is Jay Park Jay Park was the leader of boyband 2PM. he either left voluntarily or was dropped by the label after previous social media post of him calling Koreans a derogatory term was unearthed. he pivoted and shifted to being a soloist and aligned with the hiphop community. he fortitude is something to be admired and he came out of it to become one of the leading figures in Korean music. absolutely epic. BTS and Jay Park I do believe even BTS members think highly of him. it's hard not to. his contributions are great. i don't know this for sure but i don't think there is a friction between BTS and Jay Park. IF at all (this is purely speculation) it's probably other rappers (the ones who continue to push for the authentic korean hiphop) that may have an issue with what Jay park said but I JUST WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT IS PURELY SPECULATION. as far as I know, the OGs of korean rap have not reacted publicly to what he said. I do think that him asking Jhope about how Jhope felt after he mentioned BTS in his song was his way of defending himself against possible hate. saying "see, even Jhope is ok with it". Jhope is an educated and kind person. he wouldn't have objected to it. and his answer was classy. BUT THAT IS JUST MY SPECULATION. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF THAT IS HIS INTENTION. I do think it was misplaced. Jay Park, whom I believe to be very smart too should have been sensitive enough to realize he was practically asking Jhope "How do you feel about me saying I am better than your two brothers RM and Suga"? Of course, he had to ask that question given that the song is out. One way or another he had to address it. I can think of several ways he could have done that, way classier ways. However, regardless of the legitimacy of Jay Park's claim, he truly is a great artist. and his contributions should never be taken for granted. That being said, IMO it's not great enough to be in the same level as BTS and Bong Joonho.

@@AsianEntertainmentandCulture believe Jhop got it right to be honest because Jay Park actually gave them a shoutout by mentioning them as a world class title. And as for Jay park claim for the hip hop scene is correct because every rapper in the rap game, in Asia especially, know who jay park is as an artist. Because in this video you look at it based on the general point of view but not on the hiphop industry point of view cause these two industries are completely different. Like comparing Justin Bieber to Kendrick Lamar for example. These 2 are giants in their respective industries but if Justin starts to rap it ain't gonna in the same if you get my point. But I'm not gonna say that Suga and RM are not real rappers, they are the real deal but they're well known and branded as Kpop idols first so people sometimes misunderstood them.

Not to mention, jay park actually part of a breakdancing crew till this day called AOM. He's already a household name in seattle already and that's actually the reason why he's on a different level if we're talking about it from the hiphop perspective. @@VishuZ1 Relax... yeah i don't think jhope is better than suga currently but based off verses they have given us in the last 4-5 years, jhope rhymes schemes are more dense, and rhythms more complex than namjoon's. suga's are better than both in general. That being said I think 2015 rm was probably the best idol rapper of that entire year, and if we look at legacy (as in, all rap verses so far, not just recent ones), then namjoon is definitely the 2nd or 3rd idol rapper of all time (looking at his pre-debut to 2016 stuff). suga i'd put in the top 10, and j-hope, top 20. namjoon chose to experiment with genre, which leads to him focusing on other methods of conveying music besides rapping, so as of 2022 he is rather out of practice. his wildflower second verse is still not as good as the stuff he was coming out with in 2010 as a 15 year old, like the rap over nicki's itty bitty beat.
