It's sad because Cars 3 isn't so bad, Cars 3 actually feels like the real sequel to Cars 1, but the damaged caused by Cars 2 was irreparable so Cars 3 wasn't such a major success. I was so shocked when Cars 3 was a normal movie again because I had been so burned from Cars 2. 8:00 Yep you mentioned it, exactly my thoughts.

While I understand fully the hate for this movie and why people consider this the worst Pixar film. But maybe it’s nostalgia but I always loved this movie. I was 7-8 when this movie came out and I was hyped. Seeing my favorite characters back on a globetrotting adventure was amazing. Seeing the intense action between Mater and the spies, and especially Lightning racing against the best racers around the world was a spectacular to watch. And Lightning and Mater’s relationship was and still so emotional to me. I get it, this movie doesn’t make sense and then with Cars 3 after makes this look like a weird spinoff, but I’ll always love this movie. Definitely a good video though, keep up the great work.

you know what would make cars 2 better? is if the story would be about lighting mcqueen going on tour so much that it gets in the way of his friends, the story could just be about that rather than a stupid spy movie that fails as a sequal.

Honestly, the best part of this movie is that you CAN skip this and just watch Cars 1 and 3 by themselves.

Cars 2 should've continued Mcqueen's racing life, and show us him winning his first piston cup. And personally the third act of Cars 3 really didn't make sense for me. I always think it would've been better for Mcqueen to either lose or win against Jackson Storm to make it look more "realistic" in rules of racing or story wise.

Cars 2 was always my favorite of the three as a kid because I *didn't* like Lightning McQueen or the racing aspects of the first or third. This, paired with being an enjoyer of spy movies and mindless action, caused me to like Cars 2 the best despite it making ZERO sense in the context of the other two.

I really wish that Cars 2 had expanded on the impact of Doc Hudson’s death. It could have opened with scene of Lighting and Sally after Doc’s recent passing, and Lighting vowing that he’s going to remember everything that Doc taught him and be the best racer he can be. The Cars 2 movie could have been all about Lightning trying to find a new crew chief; they could have done so much with that and the fact that they only touched on Doc’s absence in one small scene is really disappointing. Such a wasted opportunity.

honestly i've never really gotten into the cars 2 hate, i argue that cars as a franchise on its foundation was already pretty underdeveloped out of necessity and so turning the second film into a spy thriller would be just as insane as the premise of the world existing. my only gripe i would say is that for the plot to continue, characters have to be lobotomized in order to believe matter is a really competent spy just really deep in character. there was probably a way they could have kept him in the story without lowering the intelligence of spies of all people. at the end of all this however i end up laughing at the film for existing more than i get annoyed at it for that one gripe i have

Cars 2 is a movie for KIDS only. End of story. Nothing logical is in it, so imo it's not worth waisting your time criticizing it. I think that makes alot of sense.

I think Cars 2 is overall mediocre. While the action is good and there were a COUPLE funny jokes, but it’s still not as good as the first and third movies. At least Cars 3 was an improvement over this one. But hey, I don’t want to bash on this movie too much because it IS a Pixar film after all. And I still have a lot of respect for Pixar whether for the better or worse.

My issue with Cars 2 was that the cars all felt "too human". They ate food (instead of just needing oil and gas), used their tires as hands (see also the handshake Lightning and Mater have), and they had facilities like bathrooms. It ruined my willing suspense of disbelief. It's like they had an idea for a spy movie but felt like they needed the Cars brand to make it.

The whole bit about 'lemon' cars and Otis getting trashed as a joke on the first scene and james bond villain style disabled mafia family all rubbed me the wrong way. They introduced eugenics in their universe in the worse way possible. Like, if 'lemon' is a slur, and it sounds like it (in universe, i know in real life it just describes hazardous cars that gets discontinued for safety reason), then it's kinda bad that the protagonist keeps using that word without ever learning to stop. The iffy part didn't start here, in the first movie Lightning was doing false *medical* advertisement for a rust treatment oil but it was at least acknowledged to be _bad,_ since he looked so uncomfortable after seeing cars rotting, having their whole jaw fall off. As a kid I played the game that came from this and never watched the film, so I was very surprised when I saw the film almost a year ago. Like, what. Is this ableism??? Am I reading too much into it? Who made this? Who put this in a vcildren's cartoon😭🤮?!

Just because it's a horrible sequel doesn't mean it's a bad movie. I mean, you could say the same for every Ice Age Sequel and Thor Ragnarok. They aren't getting demonized like this one is.

I would say cars 2 should have been just a prequal and not a sequel. For me personally I like cars 2 when I was a kid and still probably now. I think they just wanted to make a movie about the relief character and have it be a spy movie. I haven't watch the new cars but all I know is that its good.

Cars 2 is a genuine good movie in my opinion. Maybe it doesnt fit as a sequel to 'Cars' but the story is good. If they had called it like 'Cars undercover' or something and not as a sequel to the first movie but rather a side story i think it wouldn't have gotten so much hate cause I still enjoy this movie and I always did. I think it might even be better than 'Cars' but I also understand if you dont agree on that. I mean, You’re not wrong. Cars 2 doesn’t work as a sequel, but if you actually separate it from Cars 1, and 3, it’s actually not bad, I actually do like this movie, a lot. I liked everything about the movie. From the characters, to the story, to the animation, to the main character, to the soundtrack, etc. This movie would definitely work better as a spinoff. And other movies have done this before. Like Puss in Boots the last wish for example. I’m not saying it’s the best Pixar movie, but I think it definitely is one of the best in my humble opinion. While I don't think it's the worst Pixar movie. Brave and the Good Dinosaur take that spot. Cars 2 stands out for being the first bad Pixar film. Which makes it seem worse in the eyes of the public, but I can at least watch parts of the movie and enjoy them. More than I can say about Brave and the Good Dinosaur that's for sure.

People always say that it was a bad movie that ruined the Cars franchise, but the biggest crime is this is somehow in the catalogue of Pixar, and had none of that charm, heart, charisma and good messages that other movies by the studio had. I just don’t know why nobody ever says that because the signs are so clear that this is so out of sync to what Pixar has done before and even after.

I didn’t like Cars 2, not only the fact I despise spy movies, even this movie had too many spy cliches as the main reason why I hate them, but it’s because of how this movie is too violent and out of place for a G-rated movie, and the heroes are causing a lot more death and destruction than the villains. Granted, the characters they killed are only bad guys and they probably get what they deserved, but the problem is they’ve only killed two agents, the racers that got shot by an EMP survived that, and when they did capture the heroes, they only follow the cliched spy villain archetype by putting them in easily escapable death traps, which breaks the suspension of disbelief. And if the heroes are only defending themselves, they could’ve just stun them with tasers or something instead of slaughtering them, like Kratos. I know there are people who like this film for a different reason, mostly because of nostalgia, and that’s okay, but as a kid watching it, I was like confused by the storyline and characters, and every time I’ve been viewing so many cliches like this, I’m getting tired of it.

The only reason people hate this movie is because it’s a sequel to cars 1 and it’s completely different. IMO this film is better than the first film when comparing the films as their own individual movies. In that regard Cars 2 is arguably better than the first film and like I said the only reason people hate this film is cause it’s a sequel to Cars 1 and the 2 films are nothing alike. Cars 2 in terms of being a solo film is absolutely awesome. Cars 2 is to me better than Cars 1 in terms of being a solo film.

When I was little, I was obsessed with both Toy Story and Cars. I had this huge collection of Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the rest of the characters. I still have them in my room. When the teaser trailer for Cars 2 dropped, my parents showed me the trailer and I was super excited for the sequel. Once the movie came out, I loved it. At first, I thought Cars 2 did successfull in the box office. Little did I know, this movie failed, which I can see why. The story should've focused on McQueen's story. Its his franchise. In my opinion, Cars 1's animation is better than the other Cars movies due to how shiny it is. Sure Cars 2 & 3 have better improvement with lighting but Cars 1 looked really beautiful. Now that I'm turning 19 in December, I think Cars 2 was an okay movie. However, Cars 1 & 3 is much better.

As a kid watching this movie when it came out, I didn't even notice any of the issues with how out of character this sequel was to the franchise and just took it as fun entertainment. But I get your point and I'm glad the sufferable goofy hijinks outwits everything trend sorta died out

Doing something different in a sequel is completely fine, as long as the directors care about what the original set up and make the different stuff an expansion of the universe. Cars 2 does not do any of that, and just randomly brings in spies to a series that was mostly about racing.

Pixar really shit the bed with this movie. It's illogical in a bad way. Even a movie as amazingly bad as Sharknado or cartoons as insane as Roadrunner cartoons felt more logical than Cars 2. I can accept illogical stuff in a fictional work. But, the illogical aspects of a fictional work at least have to be funny (ex: Sharknado movies allow sharks to breathe outside of water and be carried by tornadoes so they can attack people, Roadrunner cartoons are meant to be funny and fantastical). They're self-aware about their absurdity, hence where the cheap laughs come in. They have some basis in reality, too. Sharks can and have landed in neighborhood lawns and streets after a really bad hurricane. Sure, they're dead and dried out, but the idea of sharks being carried out of the ocean by a dangerous cyclone isn't out of the realm of possibility. Likewise, predator and prey relationships do exist in Nature, and coyotes do eat birds. Birds like the peregrine falcon can move at racecar-like speeds, and birds like the magpie are very smart. Thus, a coyote who tries endlessly to catch a super-fast and crafty bird is believable. Sharknado and Roadrunner cartoons are just an exaggerated version of real life and Nature, in other words. There're a lot of laughs that can come from looking at cars with big, googly windshield eyes. That's partly why folks enjoyed Cars 1. The vehicles were anthropomorphic, but not too much. They were just minivans, semi trucks, tow trucks, sports cars, etc that could talk and emote. That's it. -They race. -They consume gasoline, not food -They use car washes to stay clean -They stay in giant traffic cones and gas stations for shelter -Because the front bumpers and headlights of cars somewhat resemble animal-like faces and a car's tires resemble the legs of a quadrupedal animal, you can bring a car to life pretty easily. It helps that cars like a Ford Mustang or a Chevy Corvette have more personality and charisma than other consumer products like a computer or a toaster. A world of cars built by cars. There's a basis in reality for this setup because cars do in fact need to go car washes to stay clean and need gasoline to stay in working condition. Just perfect! But, in Cars 2, we see: -Vehicles eating wasabi and tacos instead of gasoline -Vehicles drinking cocktails and beer instead of gasoline -No more giant traffic cones. Now only buildings that could only have been constructed for human use -The bathrooms, which really should've been car washes like in Cars 1, are now man-made bathrooms with bathroom stalls and sinks that are presumably designed for human use. -The bathroom stalls would have to be the size of a parking lot to fit multiple vehicles that are >2,000 lbs in weight and >12 feet in length, yet they have sinks that would only work for human hands. -We even see a lavatory truck right outside of an airplane, which implies that vehicles can, uhh, defecate....? -We see airplanes that are large enough only to fit cars and trucks that are probably about 1-5 tons in weight. So, if you're a 30+ ton semi truck or a 500+ ton train, then you can't travel to see the rest of the world. Sucks to be you. They aren't even self-aware about the absurdity or anything. Even if they had been self-aware, there's no humor behind a man-made setting without humans and only consumer products because they have no basis in reality. The illogical aspects of Cars 2 hurt the Cars series overall by making the viewer conjure up all sorts of vile, disgusting images about how these Cars' biology would work. Just look at all the creepy-ass videos online that try to explain how the Cars' bodies work.

Though I am not technically a hater of this movie- tho i do see why it is and I do feel that it is not as connected to the first film- NGL the soundtrack lives rent free in my head.

All pixar sequels(except for toy story) focus on another character making him their protagonist. In finding Nemo marlin was the main character, but in finding dory dory was the main. In the incredibles mr incredible was the main character and in the sequel, elastgirl was the protagonist. And lastly, in monsters inc, sullen was the main character but in the prequel( monsters University) they focused on mike, making him the main character

I feel like people are forgetting that this is FOR KIDS. It’s a movie that is meant to be dumb fun. Yes we all know how much better this movie could be but what we were given was still good. Why are people hating as if they just don’t like spy thrillers. The characters are fun and I don’t think we necessarily needed another story arc about lighting when we got a good one in the first movie. This movie tackles the fact that everyone sees matter as an idiot very well. Also I find it weird that people think cars 3 should be 2, like what? So after the first one we’re supposed to just skip all the way to him being retired, even that doesn’t make sense cause there is hardly any concept of time in these films.

there is one good defense for cars 2. unlike cars 1 and 3, in this movie the characters being cars actually matters. as in the story wont be the same if they used humans as car drivers instead of anthro cars. a big criticism of the cars movies is exactly that.. the characters being cars is not serving a huge purpose story wise and the movies could easily be about humans that drive cars instead and have basically the same plot.
