Here I share why a name switch can make a positive difference in your life. So this is why changing your name can change your life.
Why would someone change their name? There are many possible reasons, but in this case, I’ll just share with you my own reason for changing my name. And tell you how changing your name will change your life.
Have you ever thought about how everything in life has a certain feeling vibration to it? A gift feels different than a slap. A flower feels different than a stone. And one names also feels different than another name.
I would always encourage you to observe what vibrations are you putting into your life, and what vibrations are you letting into your life. And I would encourage you to see what your preferences are and create your life accordingly.
If you have a name that’s not uplifting you (anymore), you can simply choose another one.
Can we just change our names like that? In the dominant western culture of 2018, it may seem as if we are given a name at birth and should stick with that name and wear it with proudness for the rest of our lives.
Or at most, - but that’s already kind of weird! - that we would change our name once, choosing the right one now in one go, officially change it in the government register and then stick with that one for the rest of our life.
Wow… why all that rigidness and pressure?!
When I grew up I never liked my name too much. I wanted something with more syllables, and something with the letter A. But I never knew which other name would be that perfect new name, and I was too shy to even really think about telling others I wanted to have another name. As if that was something shameful. Maybe too weird, maybe too arrogant, maybe to self-obsessed, or ungrateful.
And then I met Jordan. Jordan was a male-bodied person who considered themselves androgynous. His parents had given them the name Michael. But later on, when discovering their androgynous nature, they had changed it to Mikey. And after having tried that out, they felt that an even better name would be Jordan.
For the first time, I got the idea that yes:
We’re allowed to experiment with having ourselves be called by a different name.
It’s okay to try out a new name for some time.
And it’s also okay to change it again later. Why should a name have to be such a big deal?
And at the same time, it IS a big deal!
Because every time you introduce yourself, you’re also introducing the frequency of that name again into your life. Every time someone else calls you by your name, there you have it again, that frequency being thrown at you by reality.
So do choose your name wisely. And the wise way to go is to allow yourself to feel into what it’s like to be called by this name, or by that name.
My birth name is Els. I associate that name with straight-forwardness, being to the point, meaning and taking things literally, and robustness. Those are qualities, and I have absorbed those qualities in my life.
At some time you might feel like you have already owned the qualities of your current name, and then choose a new name so that you can absorb the qualities of that name.
I asked Jordan what name they thought I would have if I hadn’t told them my name. They said Ariel. I instantly like it, tried it out like a new pair of shoes, and become to love it, kept it. Although I immediately saw it before me as Arial, just because I like the letter A a lot.
I associate Arial with higher vibrations than Els. For me, Arial feels like having some goddess or princess-like qualities. It’s elegant and powerful. I associate it with esthetics and divinity. With grace, and with dance.
And so I use it, and every time I use it, I become more of the qualities I associate with it.
Treat a name just like an affirmation. Choose it wisely, according to what frequency you would like to anchor more of in your life.
This is how changing your name will change your life. You let go of something old, and you let in something new. A feeling, a set of qualities. That you would like to create more of in your life.

I am tired, of my current life and my past, memories attached to my name. I plan on changing my name entirely both the first name and family name in hopes of a fresh start. Thank you for your video. It makes me hopeful that maybe I can start a new life and be happy for once.

Dear Lori, I wish you all the best with the changes you want to make in your life. Changing your name literally changes something, but is also a beautiful ritual and sign of new intention. Though I think you may also need to grapple with the past, give it a place, reconcile. Which is no easy job. I hope you can find self-compassion with that part of the journey, as well as the new life you hope for.

@@nicolewinters Asian names and culture, I can understand your frustration! Similar to Islamic culture, we don't like our names that were given by our parents or guardians we lived with because it doesn't suit us of who we are. In Islam, we can change our names but must be in relation to the religion and should not be any names that doesn't meet the religious requirements. Hi Liliane, I do like the sound of your name. But yeah, memories can spoil it!! Perhaps you could start with asking only one or a few people you trust to start using another name. Or only your friends and not your colleagues for example. You can build some confidence by starting this way. Also think of it this wat: many peopl who have second or multiple names use their different names in different groups or at different phases of your life. So you can see your new name as a second name you adopt and ask people to start using your second name. Hope this helps. By the way, sorry for the late reply!

I totally understand. The name has a lot of history, not just from our experience, but think about your families experiences too. Theres a lot of emotional weight carried from generations to generations. But ofcourse, im talking about last names. I think the same goes for first names too. I had always wondered if we could choose our names from birth, what kind of effect it would have on us?

I've been through a lot of painful memories with the name given by my adopted family. Trauma, child abuse, violence, bullied at school, defamation, suicidal thoughts, run away from home, I want to get away from these horrible past as soon as possible. After finishing university, I made the best decision ever to move to another country to start my life. But that's not it, I decided to legally change my name while living abroad as a British Citizen. Thanks to the UK law British citizens can legally change their names while being abroad, original documents send to the country, hire a lawyer in the country they live to witness, sign and stamp, report to the British consulate to apply changes on my new passport which I successfully got within 2 months! I am now the new person under my new name to start my brand new life with fresh memories and the future.

It doesn't even suit my aesthetic or personality. I would feel more confident with my new name and see myself in a way more positive and different way. I really want to move out of my city and have a fresh start and changing of name would totally help with that. I am a lover of travelling since im a child and wished i had different origins or features in my face that would look more exotic. I'm only 17 and my mom supports me! My birth name is Alice and I’m considering changing it to Aspen due to personal resentment I have grown towards my original name. I like Aspen because it’s to do with nature (it’s a tree) and it’s a beautiful place. I also get a fiery feel to it due to nicknames being like Ash and such. It’s also unisex which I like even more. I feel like it just suits me more and reflects my feisty and earthy sides. Aspen was first suggested to me by my friend who changed her name as well. I don’t plan to legally change it until I’m 18, the end of this year, and I’m not sure how to go about getting people who know me to call me by Aspen and not Alice.

BehindTheScreen Hi Aspen "I hope I can help you. I have a lot of negative feelings towards my given name. I love the name Dolores and have asked family and friends to transition to this name instead. While some of them refused, most do use it now. It's a way to see if Aspen fits you, and also a way to make sure you feel comfortable with this name before changing it legally. I'm a musician and plan to start a cooking blog. So I plan to use Dolores and the nickname Dolo as my online persona. I tell people who know me that my artistic name is Dolores and ask them to kindly please use it. I also only use Dolores when introducing myself to new people. I hope that helps you. I truly believe changing your name changes your vibration and can change your perception of yourself as well. Dolores

I like my name. Heidi. It sounds nice, and it's uncommon where i live... But i don't like the memories. The pain. The desire of wanting to dissappear. I don't like my current self. I want to go away to another country where nobody knows me. I've grown up with a lot of struggles and trauma and many people took advantage of me. It's so so painful. I hate that they got to know me so much. I hate that they know my name. I hate how naive i was. I hate that they saw me struggle. The past, my mistakes, the misery... i hate it all. It's stained. They don't personally know me anymore, i obviously changed abruptly after their betrayal. But i hate that they know my name and that i exist. That i live near them. My family is full of narcissists also, which definitely doesn't help. I deep down feel so broken. I am in therapy and working on myself, but i still feel like I'd definitely be better being someone else. I don't want to dissappear in a sense where i want to die, i want to be someone new. With new people. People that don't and will never know Heidi. I've been thinking a lot lately about changing my name. I can't change my last name, but i can change my name, my hair... I like the name Constance. I feel like they destroyed Heidi. I feel like it was burnt to the ground. Constance sounds to me peaceful, calm, but with some kind of strength at the same time. I am aware that Heidi sounds stronger, but i associate better Constance with that. Life after the storm. Being consistent. I'd like to change some of my characteristics too. The easier one being getting slimmer. I am already on it, and have done great advance. My hair is brown, i want it to be blonde. I've never bleached my hair before, I'm sure it'll be fun. It'd change my habits too. Perhaps using contacts too. Green ones. Perhaps becoming a new person. My true self, the me that isn't afraid, that is not in pain. My dream self...(?

Hi there, I want to change my name since I remember. I've been given a gorgeous name Michaela, although it is by life part of me, it never felt like truly "me". Sayin: "My name is Michaela." I feel like lying saying that, it is difficult to say it with confidence. I have tried to teach others to call me by a nickname Elle, but in my language it does not work well. And then once I stepped by the name Claire I thought to myself, that's it, that is my name, Yes, clearly I am Claire, so obvious. As a kid I remember to like the name of a book character Carol. Clire is a mixture. Hovewer, explaining this to other, they are just Michaela is a beautiful name. It is, so why cannot I see it too? By their options I am weird. I confess this, I am not "normal" in many things. Hovewer. Trying to cover it, I hesitate to move towards the Who I AM. Who AM I? How to find it with an inability to change a single one unsuitable name?

Hi Dolores, Wow, I totally agree with your association with the name. A strong woman who loves with her whole heart. I happen to know one woman with that name and she is also like that! I didn't change my name legally (might do some day, if I feel the need). But do also use it in offline settings.

Thanks for your comment Arial. I love using Dolores and feel so confident when I use it. It is like a new beginning for me. How neat that you know another woman with the same name as me and she loves with her whole heart too. If you change your name you change your vibration.

I've disliked my name growing up. I always use to hate when ppl would ask what my name was and I'd have to tell them and hated pronouncing it bc it sounds weird to me and I just don't like it. My mums half brother aka my uncle gave me the name and my mums mother thought it was weird too. He said I was named after a rapper or the name was inspired bc it just ain't even cool smh. 2020 to 2021 was the hardest past I've ever experienced in my life. The trauma, anxiety, depression and misery I've felt was the worst time of my life which has gotten to the point where I want to change my name bc hear me out I fkn hate it and the man who gave me it🥲 mostly bc of my mums side, they just put me in misery everytime I think of them. I want to take it off as soon as I turn 18. I was thinking of Noah since it sounds so casual. Not too boyish or girly, just right. I've put alot of thought into it and saw that it suited me by how I felt it described me and made me love it and desire to have it even more.

Hi Ashumaan. You can change your names in my ways. A fun way is to ask some loved ones what name they would like for you. And if they propose a name that you like, you can just ask them to call you like that from now on. But you can also more consciously ask yourself what you would like to be called. Listen to your heart, your intuition, your creativity.. or you can start with what meaning you would like to get more infused into your life. Based on that, you can see what that word (e.g. wisdom, or grace... whatever you want) is called in different languages and pick one you like. And there are many more ways, of course. If you have a certain feeling with a certain name, it will certainly give you result. Although perhaps subtly and increasingly over time. But imagine you would have a name you really disliked, or a funny name, or a name that was Latin for 'evil'... wouldn't that certainly give you 'result' too? Every word you ever think or speak, will have a consequence. good luck!

My name since tha age of 2 was Konpal. Konpal means baby leaf, you know you see those new born baby leaves in a plant, like they are light green, small and fresh in urdu. Then my parents changed my name to Fatima. All my life I thought this was my name. Until a few weeks ago. This name caused me problems, bullying etc.

My name is Lydia but its my mother's middle name and has always made me feel bittersweet because of some things. It honestly makes me feel unsettled, and I hate being called it. It's a beautiful name, but it just doesn't suit me anymore. Or ever. I'm thinking of just asking people to call me Genevieve because it's a pretty name and I could also be called Gene, which is great for my somewhat genderless self.

I'm 36 I changed my name around 6 years ago At the beginning I was fine to remind people of my new name but after moving to Canada I have become extremely self conscious about my name I feel so embarrassed about other people discovering my legal name Where I am it is not easy to change the legal name I have isolated myself only because of my name People here don't know how my adopted name relates to my culture, I almost always get questions like: oh, I did not know that this name existed in your country Oh what is your original name! Oh I don't think it is your real name Oh I saw your name on the list and it is...not ... I can't believe it but this secret is torturing me I have thought about accepting this fact but even thinking about revealing my secret doesn't make me feel better I'm literally stuck At some point I even thought about going back to my old name At least I own it😥😥

Hello Please help me, don't wanna keep my name and I want people calling me Damian. First is it ok passing from Joey to Damian ? (Damien) Next, how to start? Should I start With family ? Please help me Subbed to u
@InevitableBlisswithArial
@InevitableBlisswithArial 4 жыл бұрын
Hi joey. I am terribly sorry for responding to you so late. That having said.. Of course you can change from Joey to Damien. All the matters is that it feels good to you! If you like Damian/Damien, then that is great! How to start? It depends on you and your circumstances. I would advise you to start with asking someone who feels safe to you. Perhaps a good friend, partner, or trusted family member. You can ask them to use your new name for you, at least in situations where it is only the two of you. That way, you get a chance to feel into how you like the new name and whether you want to ask a bigger group of people to start using your new name for you. Make the change in a way most comfortable and/or exciting to you. If you feel very comfortable with changing around, not worried about the opinions of others, and very certain you will like Damian, you might even like to let everyone know at the same time! It's really up to you. I think you may trust yourself more! The questions you're asking me, are really questions that you know the best answer to! - I'm saying this to encourage you to see your own wisdom, but, of course, feel free to reply and ask me anything ;)

No offense but I would prefer it if your videos were a bit more casual or conversational. The way that you have it set up seems a bit tense. Maybe if you moved away from the camera or did something else while speaking it would feel more natural. Just a suggestion. Great video, by the way.

Hi Lala, thank you for taking time to give me feedback with which I can make my work better! To be sure, I definitely don't feel completely at ease when shooting videos. Your suggestion to do something while speaking could be of help for me. Though I don't immediately see what it could be. Perhaps drinking a nice a cup of tea? Do you have suggestions? To move further away from the camera is sadly not much of an option as I'm using the camera's built-in microphone. To sit further away makes for worse audio quality (very noticable difference). If I would ever start using a more portable microphone, I hope I will remember your suggestion ;) I'm glad you enjoyed the video nontheless!

Try the name out first before deciding on it. Say it to yourself, say it in the mirror, practice introducing yourself to others etc. You will know if you like the name as much to change it. It has to be a name you can really feel comfortable with. Think of it as another side of you.
