Very similar situations, stranded and wounded in a desolated world. Perhaps then he remembered his humanity. Perhaps by helping her he was mirroring his own desire to be saved back then. A very good summary of Darth Nihilus and Visas Marr. You mentioned that when he spared her it was maybe the last shred of humanity left within him - this is also speculated by Kreia in the game when talking to her about him. Both Nihilus and Sion became slaves to the force who could not understand how it was possible to live life without it (especially Sion). Nihilus was also dependent on the force despite his intent to rid the galaxy of it. He had become a dark side wraith of sorts. Meetra Surik made the choice to sever her connection to the force when the Mass Shadow Generator was activated in order to survive. Kreia was also stripped of the force by Nihilus and for that reason respected how Surik was able to survive without it. You also mentioned about how Nihilus wanted the galaxy to see what life was like without the force. I believe there is dialogue from Visas in the game where she speaks about what he showed her the galaxy would become because of his influence and desire to consume the force. Kreia's ultimate goal was to recreate a wound in the force in the heart of Malachor V - one that would reach the far corners of the galaxy - because she came to hate it as she felt that it had a will of its own and was in control of everything. Effectively her goal was similar to that of Nihilus but she wanted it to happen in one go rather than over time like he was doing. She also wanted revenge against him so lured him to Telos IV and into a confrontation with Surik, who was the one Jedi who was immune to his force drain ability (because she was also a wound in the force).

Thank you for making a video on this because I've always wondered this!! My theory is somewhat similar to yours in a sense that I believe Darth Nihilus saved Visas Marr because he saw himself in her which is ironic since he was the cause for her pain and suffering. Also, doesn't anyone else notice in KOTOR 2 they have a theme of beauty killing the beast? Darth Sion died because of his compassion towards Meetra Surik whereas Darth Nihilus died because of his bond with Visas Marr. This doesn't mean there was something romantic between these characters. It just means that Nihilus and Sion lived for so long because of their suffering and pain, BUT through Visas and Meetra they let go of it and found what was left of their humanity which inevitably caused their downfall.

Darth Nihilus is a Wendigo To be at Malachor, he was deemed by Revan to be a good man, a jedi that he could not turn to the darkside, so Revan doomed him to die at Malachor. He survived, and lost his humanity by consuming another human level being. Once he had consumed them, the hunger took over This is the exact thread that the Algonquin believed Cannibals to go through. Their desperation forces them to eat human meat to just survive, but the hunger takes over and they are forced to walk the world as a Wendigo It is explicitly stated that Nihilus is no longer a man, but a void, almost like a spirit in the force. Its said that those who become wendigo are possessed by a malevolent spirt, condemning them to their hunger I think its a really interesting connection

I really wish they would expand on characters like Nihilus, Sion and Traya/Kreia in a comic series that predates the games. What we get in KOTOR II was just enough for us to get familiar with these creatures but I'm greedy like Nihilus and need more.

Nihilus is one of the most interesting characters for me, mostly due to all the mystery and mysticism. He kinda just... was... the dark side of the force. There was still a man under all that, but barely. I personally hold that he "adopted" Marr so she could one day end him, but there's not much that backs that up.

Honestly, it has always puzzled me and yet made me more and more curious every time I play KOTOR 2 why he spared Visas - and listening to your deductions of what might have the case actually makes a lot more sense the more I think about it. I admit I always viewed Nihilus just as a hungry being that was consumed by the hunger to the point of being emotionless - but the more I think about it after listening to your clip, I feel like you're correct, and that he was both a tragic figure who became dependant on something he went on to despise, but spared Visas because it may have been the last of his humanity - and maybe the last part of his old life bleeding through very briefly to spare someone that, maybe, he felt would be a companion to him that could share his pain. Keep up the amazing work!

I would say the comic has the intended explanation for it. But i can also see your theory on it as well. It’s possible that it’s a combination of both really imo. Wanting to share his perception in order to share his pain with someone of her background is meaningful to him. I wouldn’t say he was a good guy because his humanity was stripped from him & he used Visas and caused her to view the world in a dark way. But is it really his fault? He couldve not gave in to his hunger & died? But i think ultimately he wanted to be an example of what the force is capable of and that its not always good and beautiful like how Visas viewed it before meeting him. I think he spared her because she was like him in a way. Both are sole survivors of a major catastrophe and both were deeply affected by their experiences.

Right, ultimately Nihlus was a product of Revan's actions. Revan 300 years later in the SWTOR universe he still has a strong and impactful presence where he finally fulfils his ultimate mission as a force ghost, he unifies his fractured self and defeats the immortal Sith Emperor. Best SW character ever, and now that both Revan and the Emperor are gone, I have NO CLUE where SWTOR is going to go.

I think Nihilus saved visas so she could remind him of his last bit of humanity, He wanted to suppress the hunger and pain but ultimately didn't want to lose all humanity within him. He saves visas so she could remind him about the humanity he showed towards her.

Your theory about why Darth Nihilus kept Visas Marr alive makes a lot of sense, either he wanted someone to feel the same pain that he did or he had another reasons. It's obvious he didn't want just an apprentice to teach her the ways of the Sith so someday she'd exceed him. The issue of force bounds has me intrigued because after Meetra Surik defeated Visas Marr on Korriban on board the Ebon Hawk she asked her to renounce the dark side and join her. Both Surik and Nihilus are wounds in the force and Visas Marr served both of them

My opinion is on the complete opposite. It think saving her was a fluke, but when he realised she survived he became curious. Kreia says in game he cares for nothing.... And oddly her relationship with the exile mirrors that of Nihilus & Visas.

Well, if he formed a bond with her just as the bonds he had before the destruction of Malachor V You could say that this bond with Visas gave him a small relief without the necessity to consume others. After all, that was the reason Nihilus became what he was, the loss of those bonds and the pain that it brought to him, so Visas bond most likely gave him some sort of peace albeit small.

Very very true. Good explanation about his relationship with Visas. I’m not entirely sure though that Nihilus wants the Force to be destroyed to end his misery. I just think he’s a mad desperate animal who is guided by his neverending hunger and that’s why he banished Traya: she wanted to destroy the Force for the reasons you already stated, and Nihilus and Sion knew they couldn’t exist without it. It’s beautiful that the game allows these two apparently invincible monsters to be beaten by their sole respective weakness that only the Exile could show them: Nihilus couldn’t feed his hunger by a force hole, and Sion couldn’t inflict pain to it. At least that’s how I see it, maybe you’ll have a different opinion?

I do believe that nihilus is actually speaking in a ancient Sith language that we can’t understand but vias can .

I imagine it's a Vader/Galen Marek scenario where it could be both be they needed an apprentice to fight other Sith lords with and carry on their legacy, but also that being this is soon after they became Sith Lords, there's still a shred of humanity that let them feel pity for the sole survivor they find on the devastated land.

I had a fan theory of the new Disney wars movie that involved Nihalus. So the theory was Nihalus was returning and he was returning though Kylo. Snoke was a herald for the dark lord to prepare Kylo as a vessel for him. It why Luke wanted the Jedi to die and refused to take up arms against the sith knowing he would just be consumed and only strengthening the dark lord. Rey how ever was a wound in the force like the exile was allowing her to use the force to gain experience, power, and skills though others. It also explained why Luke didn't want to train her because he saw another potential monster. Luke didn't think Kylo was irredeemable he just saw the monster that was growing within him

Interesting perspective, but I think in your humanization of Nihilus, you overshoot and gloss over how deeply abusive his relationship with Visas was I mean, it's not like everybody doesnt already know that, but it's still somewhat strange that it hardly got a passing mention, especially when you brought up the scene where he straight up mutilates her.

He needed a witness, and maybe also someone to remind him that he was once human. He is basically a dark mirror of the Exile, as they are opposite results of the same cataclysm -- the Exile turns away from the Force, whereas Nihilus becomes the epitome of a Force "addict" as a result of his transformation. I believe that, when Visas removes his mask, she sees a facsimile of the Exile's face: "A man, nothing more." In losing his connection to the Force and learning to live without it, the Exile becomes "more" than a man -- the Force is supposed to bind all living things, and yet he now lives 'unbound' by its dicta. His will is entirely his own. Conversely, Nihilus becomes a slave to it, to a degree that no other being in the galaxy can even imagine. For all his 'power' to consume, he becomes the perfect expression of an ordinary being's powerlessness to deny the Force's will. Aboard the Ravager, he attempts to feed on the Exile -- but, much like what happens with the planet below, he finds his prey quite unpalatable due to his being the personified absence of the Force itself. This failed attempt is what weakens Nihilus enough that he can be defeated -- attempting to feed on the Exile is like trying to feed on himself. Without getting too abstract, I believe Nihilus to be the "shadow" of the Jedi Exile, created through the severance of his Force connection and the "gap" that leaves in the fabric of the Universe. Upon defeating him, the Exile 'regains' his connection to the living Force in some sense, even though the echo of Malachor still exists and continues to travel.

I have a question about something that disturb me about the sith triumvirate. I think Darth Nihilus is a unique case in star wars and it's strange. Why there is no other sith like him, only trying to satisfy his hunger ?

I think that Visas Marr is his daughter. Daughter which he abandoned when he joined Revan in Mandalorian Wars. He could not bring himself to kill his own child, therefore he spared her and made her her apprentice/slave. That would explain his love/hate relationship with her: she is a constant reminder of his past life which he despises.

Atris caused the devastation of visas marr home planet. Visas should have been mad at Atris for trying to lure a dark presence (nihilus) and trying to destroy it.

Nihilus is neither good nor bad. He has good morals but was forced to do what is considered bad. Out of survival and a goal.

My Opinion: Visas was simmilar to Nihilus she survived the Death of Katar like he survived the Death of Malakor 5 and that is the Reason why he saved her.

Here's a video that could be just humorous fun: Every time on Peragus, when T3 goes to the terminal to open the elevator for Atton and the Exile, T3 turns around and starts screaming beeps. I've always imagined him saying, "YOU!!! You're the (*long string of expletives*) that murdered 3C! I'll ********* kill you!" So, hear me out, **'What if T3-M4 had saved 3C-FD by defeating HK-50 aboard the Ebon Hawk?'** How would T3 do it? Would he push HK out the airlock? Have a friendly philosophical chat with him? Fistfight? Bring his army of seeker drones to bear? How would that epic confrontation impact the rest of TSL? Would Peragus blow up anyways? What would Darth Sion do if he never received the distress signal? Would Atton Rand ever meet the Exile? Would he ever see her in her underwear and shamelessly check her out? Would the crazy miners still sell Meetra out to the Exchange? So many questions and possibilities. That one moment changed the course of the entire galaxy.

A lot of people miss the subtext of Nihilus that's described by Kreia and by Visas. Nihilus is basically not there by the time we encounter him, so applying to him any immoral intent is like applying ill will to a zombie. There is nothing there to will, not really, it's all enslaved by the power he possesses and his state as a Wound in the Force.

He thought she was hot and was into the whole blind thing. For real though... what does her species look like under the hood? Do they still have eyes? Or is it just a very large forehead..? Hmmm. If it's the latter, that sounds terrifying.

He was barely a man anymore so he was a more a anomaly of pure instinct to feed on the force it eventually controlled him. With that being said tho I he still had some humanity left in him like Kreia mentioned and human beings by nature need a sense of belonging or some sort of companionship perhaps he wanted someone to see the galaxy as he did.

One thing that always bugs me about how people write Sith is they always go what I call stupid evil (a term I picked up to describe how people play chaotic evil alignment) but that's not what been a Sith is, there is nothing in the Sith code about been evil or harming others, a Sith can love and have friends. So two examples of Sith that are going to fight each other one has followers that are terrified of him the other has follower that love and are devoted to him, who would win? I say it's the one that inspired devotion in his follower (assuming training and gear is equal) as for the most part people will fight harder to protect the ones they love than for one's they are scaired of. Now the Sith with follower that love them dosnt need to actually love his followers back, they could only be tools to him but their his tools and the best tools you look after, a sword cuts better when you look after it, but sadly when people write Sith they have them using blunt broken tools that they regularly beat up or electrocut.
