Why did I buy a TM? 2022 TM Racing en300fi review

People were asking for another video, so I decided to explain why I bought a TM Racing dirt bike, especially the en300fi. Long story short, I got sick of hearing that KTMs (Husk, and GasGas too) are the best bikes. I wanted to see what else was out there and if there was something that I would enjoy riding over a KTM or one of their other colors. The 2022 TM en300fi was the first 2 stroke too use TBI injection from the factory and I was extremely interested in getting TBI, as I wasn't impressed with TPI low end power, and didn't want to have to mess with jetting any more. When I saw a TM at a dealership, it was love at first sight. They are beautiful bikes, and I couldn't stop thinking about them. I looked all over the internet for review videos, but could only find a few. Finally, I just decided to buy one and make my own videos instead.

Congratulations on your new baby and addition to your family. I feel bad for your wait to getting your bike fixed. I plan on going to Daves shop in a few months and testing a few of his newer TM's. I figure with a heavy flywheel I will forget about getting a Rekluse. A few years back I tested his personal bike a carbed TM300. 2018 I think. It was a damn beast!! Almost 450 like power out of a 2 stroke!! I'm watching you ride yours and it sounds seamless with perfect fueling. LOL, you can lug that bike down to nothing.....

Thanks! My wife would say that I got 2 babies in 2022, not just one 😆 the bike really does lug down to nothing. I did change the Brembo10mm to a 9mm, as the stock clutch was fairly heavy. The new TMs come with a 9mm if I'm not mistaken. Really happy with the 9mm and ARC lever combo. I can run 1 finger all day or at least most days 😅

That's good to hear, the circuit board in the lighting harness is the issue. its located right where the harness bends past the radiator down. Its only purpose is for the low fuel light, but when the board gets damaged it shorts out and melts the surrounding wires, which can cause the headlight to stop working, and the dash display to stop working. what people are doing now if cutting the Red power wire to the circuit board, so that even if damaged, it will not short out. The only down side is that the low fuel light will no longer work. I have the larger clear tank, so I'm not worried about the low fuel light. might do a video on the mod if people are interested. let me know and subscribe so you don't miss it!

I think if TM can work out the Power valve reset and move the fuel low circuit board out of the lighting harness, that TM would really have a great bike. A possibility of electrical bugs may deter some people from getting a TM, though, even if they are minor things.

I know that TM is not well known outside Italy. That doesn't surprise me. TM as a small business have a very unconventional attitude to everything they do (marketing, business, technology, the materials they use, how they build components, etc ...). They don't follow the pack (e.g. KTM, Beta, etc ....). They don't care about following the pack. They make a certain number of bikes per year. They sell all of them. That's it. They don't compromise their ways just because they want to be well known like KTM or because they need to achieve target sales, etc... Anyway, for us having a TM is something special. Having ... eg. a KTM is stuff from a "chain restaurant", having a TM is stuff from a "local family run restaurant".

Well its pretty well known in Finland... considering you can get a license for 125cc bike at 16. I mean technically there is 11kw limit but in practice nobody cares. Husqvarna, KTM, Gas Gas, TM etc. enduros all have been popular since early 2000s or so. Way before the first three became essentially the same brand.

@renogsx TM built in a circuit board to the lighting harness for the low fuel warning light. If the wire harness is in the wrong place, the board can get damaged, short, and melt wires. People have been just clipping the wire for the warning light so it will never be an issue. If you have the large clear tank, the low fuel light isn't as important.

Hi nice video, can you please explain in detail what is that switch on the righ for resetting the power valve? Thanks.
@dtr_downtoride
@dtr_downtoride Жыл бұрын
Hello, I also have a video on how to install the "Arming Switch". The TMs have an electronic power valve, if you stall the bike, quickly restart it, and start to ride, it can sometimes confuse the computer, so the power valve setting will be incorrect for the gear/speed. You can tell when this happens as the bike will act like its "rich", less low end power. If you rev the bike to 8k rpm, the computer will automatically reset the power valve. for most riding the switch is not needed. But, when riding steep technical trails, having the switch is useful, as you need all the low end power you can get, and reving the engine is not practical when trying to keep the bike from falling of a ledge. The "arming Switch" allows the computer to say powered on even when the bike is stalled, so it always knows what gear it is in. This means the power valve is always set correctly. please let me know if this answers your question. It is not required, it is only for convenience.

@dtr_downtoride
@dtr_downtoride Жыл бұрын
At first I though the fuel range was horrible, but what I realize is that it is the shape of the gas tank, when it looks like its half full, its actually still over 50% because the tank widens at the bottom and drops down behind the cylinder. I have the oversized tank and can ride all day. It does seem to be thirstier than the KTM/Huskys, but id also say it has more power. @Zeduu I think it's more related to how far/long can you ride on one tank. I had the same concern as there is only one over sized tank available, and It's only 3 gals. Sherco has great low end power and I really like their color scheme. I found the Sherco I test rode flamed out more easily than my TM, but that could have also been due to clutch drag. It would make sense though that a counter balanced motor would flame out less easily due to increased syntrifical force of the counter balance weight. I ride from 800ft up to 7500ft and haven't messed with it yet. Still rips at altitude. Although I do get some spooge at higher elevations.

@Thomas Knapp yeah the main reason I didn't go with Sherco or Beta was, at the time, because I didn't want to deal with jetting anymore. My buddies would take off without me when I was trying to jet my KDX220. I don't blame them as they were DTR, not down to sit and wait🤣 Now, I wonder how much better would the carb model would be for low end. I need to find someone with one, so I can compare.

yeah, the TPIs don't have the same low end. I wish I could get my hands on a new Beta and Sherco to have a direct comparison with and ride them back to back. Unfortunately, all my buddies seem to be riding TPI KTMs or Huskies lol.

Thanks for the great content. I actually am really interested into getting one but I live in Turkey and they're not coming here like since 2014. The market is dominated by KTM, I love KTM as well, one of the best dealership is like 5 mins. away to my home and is owned by my close friend. To export one is a struggle itself, to make it keep running is another... How do you like the bike compared to KTMs'? The frame, the way it feels, the quality... I've also heard about their quality craftsmanship. How true is that? I am not sure if I should keep riding the KTM group or to dance with the Italian beauty... The way it looks different is so sexy. I bet it rides good as well. I am like super bummed if I can make it run here alone. Like there's no a distributor or something.
@dtr_downtoride
@dtr_downtoride Жыл бұрын
The nice thing about KTMs is that parts tend to be easier to get. The TM frame is aluminum, so it's a bit stiffer. I honestly don't know if I noticed the difference. The TM craftsmanship is great, the only thing that isn't great is the wire harness, but it seems that all Italian bike have this issue 🤣. The new KTMs are also TBI, so I'd like to try one out to compare. I lobe my TM, but if it's even harder to get parts in Turkey then it is in the US, then KTM might be safer. I hope you and your family are safe, by the way. My prayers are with Turkey right now 🙏

@@dtr_downtoride thank you so much both for your reply and the kind words. I live in the North West region. The earthquake has happened in the South East region of Turkey. the Greece and the Bulgaria is closer to me than the region earthquake has effected, for you to understand. Situations are bad, government has f..ked up the situation. Syrian refugees are raiding markets, aids... not a single minister talks about those. they have blocked the twitter for a while, the government restricts many things and won't show the facts on the national TVs. our media is only showing the rescues while even your media shows the facts, such as CNN. the economy has already f....d up, the refugees, illegal immigrants are everywhere and government wanted this to happen. not only Syrians who ran away from the war are in Turkey, also many Middle Eastern monkeys came to Turkey from Afghanistan, Pakistan... Because government doesn't protect the borders, they want them to come in and the Turkish folk is like the second class citizen compared to them. they don't pay taxes, they're breeding a lot for free, free health insurances etc... Things are so f..ed here already, not only the earthquake. I hope we won't go through a civil war. Sorry, we're all just emotional and pissed of because there is no a democracy in Turkey, but the ochlocracy. I am not a racist btw, I just don't want millions of illegal immigrants and refugees that living for free with my taxes in my country. side note: the ones who came here are mostly militas. they're perverts, there was a trend that they were sharing the videos of Turkish girls on the social media. sorry again, I wrote a lot. Kind regards ride safe! edit: I wrote ''North East'' instead of ''North West''

It's annoying to write the same things for the third time. I'll be writing short this time. Turkey has a great variety of nature. You can search about Red Bull Sea to Sky race. I don't know what made you think that way, but no, it's not limited. We got amazing places to ride from north to south, west to east.

Betas have wiring issues as well. Connector corrosion, etc. The RR sounds to have fewer issues because it's not oil injected. Italian bikes, in general, seem to have electrical problems 😆 my Beta 390 had a TPS issue due to corrosion, and recently melted the plug that connects to the regulator rectifier. Obviously, a carb bike has less electronics, so in theory, it should have fewer problems. They all just need to use better quality wires and connectors. Dirt bikes are exposed to dirt and water for the love of God! 😆

I got angry when I heard how little TM cared about your problem. In all seriousness, if I were that Distributor, I would have sent you a set of MX33s and a card on valentines day.. They should have pulled a harness off a bike they have there. You went out of your way to buy a freak bike and it failed. You shouldn't have been out a single weekend of riding. That's what I think about that

TM was great actually, it was the US importer/distributor that dropped the ball and made multiple mistakes. I did forget to say in the video that the distributor did give me an FMF Turbine core for my bike. I was still pissed about their multiple mistakes on getting my bike fixed, bit the FMF Turbine Core runs amazing on the bike 👍 The dealer I bought the bike from did offer me a bike to use while I waited, but I had my Beta 390RR-S and didn't think it would take as long as it did. Plus, my wife had just given birth, so didn't have much time to ride. TMs are the only bikes that have a 1 year factory warranty, and I've heard multiple stories of them replacing parts under warranty well after that, actually. Obviously if the importers and distributors drop the ball, it makes TM look bad, though.
