Another thing to consider though: high(ish) heels to serve a purpose in some cases. Riding boots have a small heel on them, usually not much higher than an inch or so, so your foot doesn't slip out of the stirrup while you're riding a horse.

Some women don't find them uncomfortable or restricting. I love high heels and walk miles everyday downtown and across campus in them, and it doesn't make me anti-feminist. We shouldn't expect straight women to be forced into heels to appeal to straight men, nor should we assume that a woman who chooses to wear heels is suffering in them. I like heels and I can function in them. Not because porn or backwards-thinking cavemen told me I should.

Lol just found this awesome channel today off of a DNews suggestion, and it seems that there's a trend occurred. Lipstick, high heels and skirts were worn by everybody, men and women, at first. But then, through varying series of events they all just ended up being used by women. I haven't got onto the bra vid yet but im gonna laugh if men wore those too

Some of us men are already wearing high heels. It would be sharing, not reclaiming.

I personally wear them because they represent me. Class Royalty Style I can't imagine my closet or life without them. They make my outfits 1,000x better and my confidence is even higher being that I'm a man in a world where being anything remotely feminine is considered bad. I don't wear them for attention, I don't wear them to try and be a woman, I wear them because I love them. So yeah, that's my reason though it shouldn't be anyone's business. Women and men can wear whatever they want and they aren't obligated to explain their reason as to why they wear what they wear. Heels are just a part of me.👠👠

I agree that men who want to wear high heels should do so and not be considered "feminine" per se. I love, love, LOVE wearing heels. I've got a sizable collection and try to seek out outfits to go with my shoes. Thank god for modern transportation options, because walking distances in high heels just isn't feasible.

I don't wear high heels, or even regular heels, I think the highest heel I've ever worn was like 3". The only time I've ever worn heels was to dances and other high school events, and that was because my mother made me. She said that heels = more formal and more professional :( Now that I'm free, no more heels for me, not for parties, dances, presentations, or interviews; not even for graduation (I was the only girl wearing flats for our graduation ceremony, at least that I saw). :)

My brother started the high heels trend. He's now naturally taller than my mom and she said she would keep on wearing higher heels just to stay (artificially) taller than him.

I don't like high thin heels, they hurt and scare me. I prefer 2 - 3 inch thick heels. That little bit of heel makes the shoe more interesting than flats :D

At work my female cowerkers and I all wear heals, and believe it makes us look more professional, like we care more about our presentation, more polished. Our boss even pulled aside one of the girls who dresses down more often and politely mentioned she should consider dressing more appropriately, example, like me and the other girls in skirts and heals. So I don't think sexy is the only thing they convey now, it depends on the context. In the workplace it's just part of the professional wardrob

Would you get the same supernormal stimuli from just keeping your heels raised and balancing on the balls of your feet without actually wearing them? It's more stressful than remaining flat-footed, but also allows for quicker footwork.

I tend to ware flats, but I do have a pair of high heel boots(they aren't that high but are elevated) and when I ware them I feel powerful,but they hurt my feet so I never really ware them. Comfort over feeling superior any day.

i (like to) wear heels with jeans cause I am short (sorta) and have tiny feet and it keeps my jeans from totally engulfing my feet. It's cool to feel taller sometimes. I pick ones that don't hurt my feet. Still most of the actual shoe it covered but my pants aren't dragging on the floor and getting caught under my feet. I will eventually learn how to hem a pair of pants properly. Then the heels will just be for fun. I wear flats dancing cause that much moving with your feet in that position is not good.

Interesting, my stride and posture are unchanged in heels. What I notice personally, is that my legs appear more muscular because my heel never touches the ground (it's how I walk in flats but the heel exaggerates this).

But, there is more backstory behind the backstory of high heels being dude shoes: supposedly they were first worn by Persian archers on horseback, and the high heel was made to fit around the stirrup, making it easier for them to balance while standing and riding a horse, which sounds impossible.

I think it makes more sense for men to wear them... we all want a tall man... who wants a tall woman?

I LOVE my flats!!! I'm a girly girl and the only time I wear heels is when I'm forced to because of a dress code and I stick to low heels as much as I can in such situations. Here's a concept: Dress codes should allow dressy flats. I hate it when males try to advocate high heels as some necessary part of a woman's outfit. If he loves heels so much he can wear it because I don't feel like it.

When I wear heels, they are usually not too big, or they have some sort of wedge and cushion at the bottom making them easier to walk in and they look nice. I would never wear shoes with huge heels to a party though-ruins all the fun :p

I would take height in consideration here... Since I'm kind of tiny... Wearing super high heels puts me in a good 1.75 mt high what helps me get more jobs... Cauuuuuseee there's another study that says that taller people get more jobs than shorter people.

As a test, I went round to visit my auntie who is 56 years old. She was out, but I knew where the key was to get in. It was outside, under the front door mat. Anyway, I was happy she was out because I went upstairs to try her high heels on. Just to see what they were like to walk in. She only had four inch heels. Anyway, I couldn't walk in them properly so I thought maybe if I wear some of her clothes, it would help. I put on her underwear, bra, panties and stockings. still no good. So I put on her dress. still no good. I then wore some make-up, bright red lipstick, and a spare blonde wig she had. So I decided to go out like that and see if it would help walking down the street. Anyway, it worked. But I had left the key in the house, so I couldn't get back in. I ended up walking back home dressed as my auntie. I don't know what she thought about finding my clothes at her house, and her black dress, underwear and shoes missing. I saw her again since and she asked me whether i'd like to go round there and look in her wardrobe which I thought was odd. Thanks.

i wear thick wide platforms instead of heals/ stiletto, much more comfy ( can las 24h in them) and not to attract men but i do feel a bit more self esteem when wearing them :)

The high heel goes back even further. It started with the developement of the riding saddle and the stirrups during the dark ages. Sandles don't work with stirrups so special boots were developed for the stirrup. The pointed toes help get the foot in the stirrup more easily and quickly, especially without looking and the elongated heel prevents the foot from going all the way through the stirrup and becoming stuck, which would be very dangerous. They were worn by the equestrian and since the equestrian class was very powerful in ancient Roman culture they were worn by the powerful men and as the calvalry was the elite fighting force they were worn by the knights and warriors. So they became known as the footware of the warriors and a statement of power for men even as far back as the dark ages.

There is nothing sexy about willingly subjecting yourself to blisters and worsening bone structure to gain a less efficient walking movement.

I know a lot of people seem to dislike heels and I see many comments basically bad mouthing them. But one thing I have observed over the years. As soon as the sound of the clicking of heels is heard, EVERY guy looks up to see who is there. Now, the same woman could walk in wearing flats and virtually no response. I have watched this many times while waiting in airports or any other place. Even in the mall, you can see 50 nice looking women walk by and unless the guys are actually looking, they get no response. Have some girl walk by with her stilettos clicking away and every guy pays attention.. Just my personal observations over many years. Some girls can wear high heels and have no ill effects. In fact they have better, more muscular looking legs because of it while others experience pain and all kinds of issues. We are all different. I have a close friend who always wears heels and she has no foot, back or leg problems. But she is thin, in shape and frequents the gym..

I love heels, but I only wear it for church or special occasions (theater, graduation, interviews, dinner, weddings etc). I also wear sneakers alot when Im hanging out with friends going to the movies, family gathering to me its all about being appropriate your not going to see me wearing heels to the park or school. So just be wise as in where you wear your foot wear :p

I can tell you this much that high heels look great on a lady, mainly because they make her calves look sexier at least I think so since I am a leg man! Yes they do put the chest and bottom end at a preferred position for most or at a sexy place. I do like them on a short lady or a taller lady. like I said it accents the lower leg best for me. Male Egyptian Butchers wear the first known to use high heel to keep out of the animal blood. Equestrian Boots (Heeled Boots used for horseback riding) Are worn by both Male & Female alike still today. I am male a love my heeled boots & shoes. whether I am using them for Costumes or everyday life. They force you to stand at a straight confident posture. Posture does wonders when come to appearance.

I can't wear high heels. Anything taller than three inches, I wouldn't last two hours in. My feet start to seriously ache and even blister. If high heels are a modern mating call, then they are a painful one indeed.

The effect of high heels on me is that I feel so small, tiny, helpless, insect size before a woman who wears high heels and I feel that she is going to step on me. LOL

Heeled shoes that have a heel that comes up no higher than 2" (they say 1" to 1.5" is best) will actually improve your posture and gait. This is true for both male and female bodies. However, once you get above that 2" mark, that's when the health problems and potential injury start kicking in. Also, slender, spike heels are almost never recommended as it makes it more difficult to balance.

As a woman, I think that long slender muscular man-legs would look great in high heels. Looks great to on drag queens to, though I would not mind it to everyday "male clothes" to.

I hate high heels, but I love wedges and thicker or shorter heels. Easier to walk and dance in. I want to still feel stable in my shoes without the need to practice too much just to walk in them without falling down or moving awkwardly in them.
