Vampires are great metaphors for understanding what we fear and how that can bring us together...or drive us apart and lead us to the dark side.

mythologically speaking there were several reasons a vampire could not see their reflections. one was what early mirrors were made from polished silver a metal many cultures believed was effective against many unholy or supernatural beings. another was that it was thought a mirror was a reflection of the soul which undead did not have, yet many of the same cultures believed animals did not have a soul yet they still cast a reflection. there are other explanations given in various cultures but these are two of the most prevalent.

It's the same reason redheads burn and hiss in daylight but frolic and sing in the moonlight. Every surface absorbs some wavelengths while reflecting others, that's why things have different colors even though they all get the same light. Likewise, the moon obviously absorbs the specific wavelengths that are deadly to vampires and redheads.

Based on this guy's presentation: What if vampires are the only ones who cant see their "reflections" -- their own corrupt nature and abuse of power?

Still a fan of "The Lost Boys. " A lot of commenters seem to be disappointed in this Ted talk, but he brought up some interesting points, history, and facts about rabies. Kinda makes sense that one of the forms that a vampire would take is a bat since they can carry rabies.

"Why don't vampires cast reflections" Because they were written not to. Vampires that don't cast reflections are not real. The writer makes them up. This means they can have whatever attribute the writer wants them to have. This is definitely a candidate for "the worst of Ted".

If you think this is the "worst of ted" you haven't seen many Teds. TED has been in the toilet for many years at this point. I've certainly seen far worse.

From what I’ve heard, it’s actually something cultures believed long before we were writing fictional stories for entertainment about vampires. Of course vampires don’t exist, but just saying. Plus, I doubt you’d be commenting this if this was a ted talk about religion or something. And what’s wrong with occasional goofy ted talks? Plus, this relates to history. Prob are some historians that focus specifically on this topic
@mowgli2071
@mowgli2071 2 күн бұрын
@@jacksonh2083 Having a religious subject talked about as a religious subject is completely different. With vampires, there is no controversy: vampires are acknowledged by vampire fiction authors to be fictional. At least with religion you have someone somewhere claiming something is real.

@@poetryflynn3712 There's a list called "the worst of Ted". At this point it's quite old. But it gives a good idea of what I'm talking about. The only one I can remember is the shoe-tying one. And a lot of music ones are on the list. This won't be in the top five. But I'm pretty sure it belongs in the top 250.
