When discussing the career, legacy and future trajectory of Aubrey Graham, you’ll face an uphill battle finding a rapper that’s been as successful & consistent. Where artists such as Eminem and Jay Z are widely celebrated for shifting hip-hop’s commercial boundaries, Drake has found himself with everything a man could want besides the love and support of a genre he’s helped elevate. Instead, his pursuit of chart-topping has meant his status in hip-hop comes with an asterisk beside it.

It's the damage to the 'Drake' brand that is the issue. Pusha bodied him and Young Money on Infrared and..... Drake responded with an ok effort. Pusha's next track buried him for: A. Being ripped off by Baby. B. He knocked up an ex porn star. C. And revealed he was either actively hiding or abandoning a child he never wanted in France. It's not that he had a kid. It's that Pusha told us. It's not that Drake had a significant other who was an ex-sex worker. Its that he didn't acknowledge it. It didn't hurt him monetarily. It hurt his authenticity. The sabotage is saying he isn’t the Hip Hop Golden child that achieves critical acclaim while staying commercially successful as he set out to in the beginning of his career. He over time say that the acclaim wasn’t his way of dominating. He’s elite in bar status on his own and has ghostwritten for others (that’s why do many songs sound like drake featuring drake. -4am in Dallas) but Being a successful artist numbers wise is higher priority that the recognition from hip hop purists. Through the moves he’s made it wouldn’t seem that he would trade any of his chart topping albums in for a historic classic hip hop album. He knows if he does so he would lose much of his audience. So the best play is to stick to his strength and make hits. The truth is Drake on his own has never been lyrically weak at any point of his career. I personally believe references tracks were used as a volume play than a lack of creativity play. To make the song creation process quicker he signed artists to give him references to give him something to work with, tweak it and go on to other things. I think he takes time on his introspective songs like “March 4th” and more lyrical song such as tracks like the “lemon pepper freestyle”. When he gets features I believe he uses references for the sake of productivity. He tweaks them then goes on to other lucrative ventures. The volume of quality music is his long term play. No one will have more _____ than him. Kendrick can have a greater album(s), Justin can have bigger hits, but no one will have more of both than drake. Drake’s ability to juggling both pop success and hip hop supremacy awards him to be today’s most culturally dominant figure.

Say what you want about the man, most of you have at least one song you like by Drake or that he is featured on throughout the years. He's a presence you can't really ignore. Even if you don't listen to him, you'll hear something with him on it playing while walking outside, in the store, at a birthday party, etc. He might not be a hip hop GOAT but he is definitely having a GOAT run, still as relevant as ever. I was 14 when "Forever" dropped and now I'm 27 and he's still going. Shit crazy.

You can't have ghostwriters if you gave them credit for all of the songs you worked on together (which Drake did). Drake has written HIT records for other artists and got his start in the industry working at writing camps for Dr. Dre - a lot of times artists use reference tracks because they simply don't have the time to sit down and brainstorm ideas.

This is why platforms like this don’t speak for the culture. People do not care about drake’s kid and the pusha t diss was good but not able to kill his career. He’s a pop culture icon that dabbles in rap. Fans make it so corny when they do all this
