I think replacing Kang with doom based off of the failure of Quantumania is extremely idiotic. The main thing everyone praised was Kang & Jonathan Majors performance, and in Loki one of the best performances was from Kang. Kang isn’t the problem, it’s the direction that they’re taking him that is making him look less of a presence than what he actually is. If they could refocus and actually properly plan this out Kang could easily be seen as a major threat

Doom should’ve been introduced in Civil War, as Ross was addressing the Avengers about the Accords…he mentions that Sokovia has actually divided into two countries after AOU…the western part is still called Sokovia and is aligned with the US, hence the Accords but the eastern part is now Latveria and is ruled by one man…a call back to how eastern and western Germany divided after WW2…and from there we can see in the background Doom’s influence in gaining technology and weapons during Black Panther (vibranium) Ant Man and the Wasp (Pym particles) Black Widow (Taskmaster program) Captain America and the Winter Soldier (SS serum) then he could’ve had his own official intro, like Werewolf by Night…and feature a glimpse of the FF4 in it…now Doom is established and you can still have Kang as he has been in the MCU so far.

That Loki ending definitely reignited my hope for MCU movies.

Kang falling into the engine could have been how he developed timeslipping and in Kang Dynasty we see him timeslip around the multiverse affecting things.

I like Ryan's ideas for rehabilitating Kang. I agree that the "He who remains" Kang was the best. But I think his best point was that regardless of what's decided, there needs to be good writers. Maybe they could hire him as a consultant :-)

The Multiverse is a franchise killer and Kang is integrated tightly with the Multiverse. Frankly, my favorite stories are when the stakes are a person, neighborhood or city (see Batman, Spider-Man, …). Comic books are a lot about the graphic images and benefit from wild images, but wild images in movies just break the immersion. When they are in the quantum realm I just find myself zoning out and losing the outlandish aspects of the plot. I look at the background for interesting images while losing the plot and stakes.

If the rumors about Majors's contract is true, recasting Kang would infringe on the agreement. His contract is said to include an exclusivity clause, meaning that any and all versions of Kang and his variants can only be portrayed by Johnathan Majors. A smart move by him, if it is true. It also makes the hasty switch to Dr. Doom understandable. I agree though that Marvel needs to commit to Kang to make this saga work. I think the key is He Who Remains and that the key power that can make him even more threatening is something we've already been introduced to in Loki Season 2: Time slipping. HWR knows about Time-Slipping and likely has mastered the ability. HWR likely has orchestrated Loki's ascension to the God of Stories so that Loki will hold things together for him while the Multiversal War reignites and he can go on to defeat his own variants without worrying to hold the multiverse together. Also, having Loki perched at the end of time holding the strands of time actively removes him from interfering in the multiversal war. This is because he can't just prune or let go of one branch to save countless others. He needs to hold them all or risk having countless others escape his grasp. Loki's new glorious purpose is to allow the multiverse to exist, not prune or interfere. That's the new role the TVA has in this continuation.

Removing kang because of quantumia would be like removing Gorr because of Love and Thunder. Kang wasn’t the problem in that movie

According to the Weekly Planet Podcast Johnathan Majors had a clause in his contract where only he could play Kang variants. He did this realizing the potential of the Multiverse, once all his legal stuff gets resolved either he will void a morals clause or he goes back or something else.

I mean I didn't mind Kang losing in Quantumania, I wasn't aware of Kang at first and I found it weird that he died, but when I did some research on Kang and read the necessary sources, I understood why Kang lost. Kang is a character who cannot be beaten by death as easily as any other human. He always has a way to come back stronger, more threatening, and smarter to beat his enemies. He is a master manipulator of time and he knows how to shape it to his own will. How do you kill someone who controls his life as well as Kang? I mean, we literally witnessed it in Loki Season 2 when HWR explained that he won't just let himself get killed that easily without a plan. Getting rid of Kang entirely ruins his character as a threat because he is supposed to get beaten to come back stronger until he becomes almost unstoppable. Kang NEEDS to stay!!!

To be fair to Kang - those weren't just 'ants' - they had highly evolved technology, each bigger in size compared to Kang and they vastly outnumbered him.

THANK YOU! I've been thinking about Quantum Entanglement being the decisive factor between Kang's variants since Loki s1, and given the context Quantumania provided... Well, it might just as well be the key piece that puts all this chaos together (including irl issues, recasting and such). Also agreed 100%, Kang can't just be benched after these last 2 years. Specially when F4, A5 and Secret Wars are so close to each other in terms of release dates.

In the Secret Wars (comic) Doom specifically mentions Kang is a future version(variant) of himself. I could see them using that to transition from Kang to Doom.

I don't think Kang should be recast (unless he is found guilty). I hope Marvel is writing the Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars now, doing principle filming, and then working backwards this way if Majors is needing to be recast then they would have done all the necessary work and filming they needed to complete the saga. Even without this issue with Majors after this phase they were not going to use Kang again.

Do not replace Majors. He's a great actor, and I've enjoyed him and his different portrayals of Kang thus far.

I feel like giving the “original” Kang the power of the Beyonder in Kang Dynasty and having his appearance be a massive event only for that power to be stolen by Doom in Secret Wars Part 1 is a way to get the best of both worlds.

No Doom should not replace Kang. Doom should get his own story. Thanos too a long time to set up, and doing this would be a waste of building up Kang and weaken Doom.

I originally predicted that Doom would be introduced as a Kang variant during Loki, even thinking that Victor Timely would become Victor Von Doom. This can still be done to an extent, and would probably be the best way to introduce him at this point.

This is all under the assumption that Doom wasn't the plan the whole time. When they announces Kang Dynasty followed by Secret Wars, i digured KD would end with Kang beating all the heroes only for Doom to swoop in and demolish Kang. What better way to show how dangerous he is than for him to just wipe the floor with someone who just beat all the Avengers.

I think the end of Loki perfectly sets up a return of Kang, that is actually orchestrated by Dr Doom. Since Loki is the God of Time/Stories, and he just ended a situation with Kang, he’s going to think the threat is Kang. That give Doom the space to manipulate things behind the scenes, and completely avoid Loki & the TVA who are focused on Kang.

Those monstrous accusations against JM, they impacted the character of Kang more adversely than Quantumania. Even if he's found not guilty... It's just a mess. Based on acting skills alone, he's good enough to save that character's arc. We'll see what happens.

Saying Marvel’s problems all lie within the writing hits the nail on the head. It doesn’t matter which way they go, the writing has to be on point. Disney screwed it up with their greed and allowing anyone with a little bit of talent do what they wanted instead of sticking to the storyline. Now we have a ton of characters that showed up and disappeared. That’s one of the most frustrating things for me.

I agree, Doom is miles ahead of Kang in popularity. However, my real concern is that they will bungle Doom like they have the the last few times they have tried to do him. Every cinematic Doom has fallen on his face and burned. Nothing against the actors that have portrayed him, but NONE have had the gravitas, one would need to play Victor Von Doom. I think it's the writers and the directors problem in making the movies/story good. As much as I love Major's performance, the writers and directors ruined it. Re-writes and changing shit doesn't make it better not to mention what has been happening outside Marvel and that chick just ruining his image. I love his acting alot! I hope they keep him and give him great character development and have us, the fans, connect and be attached to him like we did in Loki Season 2!

I do really like the idea of Kang taking over his variants. But, him hopping into other versions of himself also kind of already happened right? At least visually with Ultron? Idk if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Doom needs his own movie to introduce him. Give bits of the backstory in flashbacks, but have Dr. Doom protect Latveria from invaders but have him be ruthless in that defense. No mercy. It creates complexity to his character that makes him a relatable villain. Much like Magneto.

I like your ideas and keeping Kang in it, even if it does sound a bit like Crisis on Infinite Earths. If you still have to recast Kang though for actor issues, then I go with Boyega. He could pass as a younger version of Kang or perhaps one of his variants who put his mind toward staying eternally young.

This is how I think it should happen: Dr Doom was a brilliant scientist born into a wealthy family in latveria but after his mother and family died and his country went into poverty and ruins he created time travel technology and travelled throughout timelines meeting kang variants and in order to avoid being pruned by the tva he used kang variants as a decoy causing a war between them to distract the tva

To be honest i wanted kang ,and dr doom teaming up together both of them causing damage to the avenger team!

Wow. The suggestion of having Doom replace Clea in Multiverse of Madness is such a huge improvement. Imagine if they did that and then had Doom appear in a post credit’s scene of Wakanda Forever. Then had Doom show up in Quantumania’s post credit scene alongside the Council of Kangs in the arena. Just having a through line would make people so much more excited for the MCU.

I really think there is plenty of time to introduce Doctor Doom. Just introduce him in Thunderbolts. I do also, however think that Kang is baked into the story but he hasn’t necessarily set himself up to be the ultimate villain and can easily be moved to a “dragon” role. ;”Dragon” is essentially a villain in a story who does a lot of the leg work. Think Darth Vader in Star Wars.

The best I think they can do without replacing Kang is just to have the council go after Loki directly somehow and then they fight over who is going to rule over the multiverse but in their conflict causes the Multiverse to collapse and needing to be rebuilt in secret wars

I don’t think the end of Loki cut out Kang. What Loki did was allow the multiverse to exist. Meaning hes allowed the Kang variants to exist, so if they stick with Kang then Avengers 5 will likely include the TVA coming in to help

I’ve only known Doom from the old F4 movies (As I’m not that well into comic lore yet) an based on those, I would wait an finish Kang. As a non comic book reader tbh I just didn’t find both iterations of Doom not interesting. If all my friends who read comics are right an Doom is as awesome as he is I’d rather marvel take the time need with Doom and just finish Kang.

I think you can introduce Doctor Doom pretty quickly because Thanos was absolutely fantastic in every way and we only saw him for a very little bit before infinity war and I think many of us, I never read Comics at all, fell in love with the character and understood how awesome he was before even 15 minutes into that movie

I concur with your take on the debacle an "afterthought" doom would likely be. Another issue is your TLDR because it's imprecise and regardless if they shoehorn or carefully introduce doom, they need to distill a precise character from the many imprecise or out right poor depictions and TLDRs. One way might be for SC to examine a good depiction in video to highlight the things that work vs past failures. Private war of dr doom ep of avengers EMH might be a good contender for a short, easy to grasp, solid depiction and a breakdown of why might speak to the "scanned the wiki" problems of the past we hope they avoid in the future

The essence of Kang's power was two fold. He's from the "future"; he knows everything about the heroes and already has counters for everything. Second, he can't be defeated because he always travels through time with endless variants and do overs.

Marvel should fully commit to this version of Kang. Have Kang assume the entire role of Doom in the lead-up to Secret Wars. The Kang variant we see in Quantumania becomes he who remains. They are the same variant at different times in their narrative. Kang the conqueror wasn't killed he was cast into the void at the end of time. From here he is outside the normal flow of tie and evades other Kangs and Loki. It is there that he meets and tames Alioth. He will use Alioth to wage a revenge campaign against other variants. He hopscotch reality recovering weapons from various heroes and adding to his arsenal- stealing the ten rings, the quantum bands, and celestial tech, Tiamat’s body becomes the citadel at the end of time.ect. Kang or his variants should connect to every hero. Immortus fights Thor and Hercules, Scarlet Centurion fights Shang Chi, Iron Lad forms the Young Avengers, and Rama Tut Fights the Fantastic Four. He who remains’ threat grows every time he is successful in reclaiming his power. Each variant he who remains defeats he absorbs their essence and power. Slowly he eliminates all rivals. Each time he does so he creates an incursion and destroys the reality of the Kang he killed in the process. Like Doom in the secret wars, Kang gathers survivors of these realities to work as his black swan harbingers. The Black swans fight against Dr. Strange, Clea, and their black priests. Eventually, Kang should weaponize Loki the way Doom weaponized Molecules man in the comics so he can absorb every remaining Kang’s essence. Doing so triggers the end of everything and the battle world is crafted from the remains. He who remains or his variants would appear in Deadpool 3, Thor 5, Eternals 2, Shang Chi 2, Dr. Strange 3, and Young Avengers. His influence should also be felt in the Sony movies more subtly by working with the villains of those movies. Doing this might risk overexposure but the scale of the threat is emphasized.

He was easily the best part of Antman 3. And his He who Remains and Victor Timely was awesome.

I’m just going to say that, while I like kang as a big bad, if they do decide to go with doom, I absolutely want it to be Henry cavil. I’d love for him to be a good guy and get treated well long term, but being an avengers level bad guy would be incredible.

Imagine having a good villain that they give a bad story for, and then blame the bad story for why ppl may not like the character. Everyone loves Kang and want to see him in the story going forward. one very important thing to keep in mind is not to trust those rumors, they may be true but pretty much every day we're getting new info, the other day they said they were replacing him, next one said that they weren't replacing him but recasting him, and then the next one said that they definetely weren't recasting him so all we can do is wait to see what happens, with that said, I hope eventually dr doom comes to the mcu

Your idea is a really good one. Problem is that Majors apparently demanded a specific clause in his contract that essentially said that he and only he could play Kang and all his variants. Even if Marvel wants to recast him, legally, they may not be able to. I’d rather they keep Kang, too, so they may need to wait and see how Majors’ legal problems shake out.

Four things: 1. The rumor going around people who work on film sets is that Jonathan Majors didn't want anyone else playing Kang and wanted all the work associated with variants so his contract has a unique clause prohibiting recasting or any actor playing any variant. Disney would need to eat tens of millions to get out of this. 2. Iman Vellani was on New Rockstars recently ESSENTIALLY saying what I've been saying: KZfaqrs have been the ones trying to make Kang the Thanos of the multiverse saga. My take has always been that Kang was always supposed to get punked for another villain in Secret Wars. Fans have been treating him as the villain when he's probably closer to Molecule Man in Secret Wars: the wrecking ball who destroys the multiverse and ends up paving the way for someone else. 3. Julian McMahon works fine as a Doom here. The MCU doesn't need a Doom for Doom to be the villain. He was always fine as an actor and evolving towards a better Doom. 4. My $.02 is that rebooting Marvel means no actors or almost no actors returning. So anyone you cast now is getting shelved in a few years anyway. I even think anyone introduced in the FF movie filming in January is getting shelved. I personally think the Young Avengers are even likely out. New Steve. New Tony. New Thor. New Hulk. New Widow. New Professor X, Cyclops, Wolverine. New. New. New. Everybody's gone aside from maybe something like actors from the first saga as Beyonders or something. That really doesn't mesh well with the idea of saving Doom if literally everyone is getting dropped in Secret Wars anyway.

I partially agree with you, Ryan. As a Doom fan myself, yes, Doom and his variants need to be in Secret Wars otherwise it's a disservice to the original stories. And yes, Kang is pretty woven into the story in some cases as He Who Remains did say that "there's too many" of his variants for the TVA to prune, so that would be a creative problem that Marvel would have to solve. However, what I don't agree with is your idea that He Who Remains knew that Loki would re-write the equation as that would be the biggest spit to the audience ever and Marvel is already losing fan interest so they can't afford to do that. But the removal of Dustin Cretton does support the Doom > Kang rumors.

First off, I love your videos. Great ideas for future Marvel movies, but there are two potential issues. 1. The idea of a guy being everywhere (like Agent Smith) has already been done (albeit in a global rather than Universal scale) in Avengers 2 with Ultron. Yes, there would be bigger stakes and some detail changes, but at a macro level, that high-level concept has been done. 2. I have no idea if this is accurate, but I think I saw somewhere than Jonathan Major’s contract says that only he can play Kang… no recasting. So if his legal/PR issues go really mainstream and they can’t keep him as Kang, Marvel will need a new Big Bad. Doom seems like the obvious choice given the Secret Wars comics run, but as you say… Marvel kind of a screwed the pooch by not setting up Doom much sooner. Tough situation for Marvel. I really hope they figure this out, because nothing was as exciting as pre-Infinity Wars Marvel.
