I am an Italian with a center-left leaning political position and what Meloni proposes is not a "radical change" of the constitution. Italy is a solid democracy, and while I might not agree with this reform, Meloni is well within their right in proposing it.

Is it really necessary to keep up this nonsense that Meloni is like Mussolini ?

@@aor3220 Why do you think the constitution was constructed this particular way? Maybe so that the past would not get repeated? History is everything my friend.

@@slowdeath7463 it is an over-simplification to imply that changing one aspect of the constitution, a PM elected directly by people as opposed to elected by the italian parliament, will lead to a Mussolini style dictatorship. I'm sure there are many aspects of the Italian constitution which are designed to prevent a fascist dictatorship beyond just how the PM is elected. History is important. It's a shame the FT went for the worn out simplistic analogy between meloni and Mussolini. Ive listened to hear speak a lot online and there's very little similarity with Mussolini imo

It’d end up looking like the brazilian presidential regime instead of french parliamentarian regime, for the president would still be a head of state, as a substitute to the monarch - unlike the french prime minister, that serves as an interface between Executive and Legislative branches - , and the elected prime minister would have to appoint names offered by opoosition parties to ministries and important offices in order to guarantee legislative support. In the end, parties progressively sapped most presidential powers in Brazil with each new national emergency - as it most likely would happen in Italy. Italian politics is fragmented because italian society is fragmented, and if such fragmentation ceases to undermine the Executive, the same most certainly won’t happen with the Legislative branch…

Holy crap you just haven’t given up on this. Since before she got elected all the media could whinge about was how she’s Mussolini. She’s not. And starting a short about Meloni by showing a black and white scary reminder of the Axis is such a propaganda move that I’m just unsubscribing instantly. Chill tf out
