It's not about protectionism, it's hypocrisy, and injustice! The old powers always talked about loving free capitalism and the open market when it helped them to continue maintain the dominance. But now, when China is winning at capitalism by providing better quality and prices, suddenly they're called out for "abusing" the market, and EU says "we need to protect the market".

Co-operative trade between nations is important for peace and prosperity. Not trade barriers and tariffs.

Interesting. Thanks George. It might have been worth mentioning the impact of B&RI on the speed of rail freight between China and Europe. I saw a video a while back which explained that it's now possible to export goods (e.g. wine) from Madrid by train and they will arrive in Beijing two weeks later. That's 4 weeks sooner than if they are sent by boat. This seems to me what underpins Hungary as a gateway to Europe for BYD etc because it more or less guarantees that the supply chain can continue uninterrupted. You have to hand it to the Chinese when it comes to strategic thinking.

Yes, and some vehicles like the SERES 5 are being transported by that train to Europe,

I strongly agree with the idea that protectionism is a flawed ideology that stems from ignorance among certain groups of a country’s population and is reflected in its policies. However, it is unclear why such an ideology has persisted throughout history despite its inevitable negative consequences. No country can claim the moral high ground on this issue, as protectionist policies continue to be implemented worldwide in economies of all sizes. Therefore, it is of great interest to observe the outcome of Hungary’s efforts in this regard.

People don't want PRC brands because of (1) poor build quality, (2) the lack of a decent dealer network and (3) because these tofu cars come with extreme depreciation.

Hungary isn't exactly on Europe's good list already, what's the chances Europe starts sanctioning Hungary? 😂

@@madev_channel I think the rest of Europe has far too much economic control over Hungary, they already pressured them into backing down on blocking Ukrainian aid. Until China can get the larger European countries (especially Germany) onside it’s going to be like swimming against a tsunami for Chinese EV companies.
