I was also happy when I saw that offer and ate 2kg of blueberries this week haha. Interestingly at the beginning of the week they came from Romania and today they were from Germany but all for the very low price. Tastewise the Romanian once were a bit sweeter while the german once were a bit more watery. Still can't complain with that price. I live on a budget so I always have to look out for cheap fruits but I would love to be able to buy organic.

Couple of things there, the water import is pretty much a big problem, I for one part don't buy conventional stuff anymore because of all the glyphosate and other sheet I really don't want to put in my body anymore. Styrian organic bluebs are in season for a month now already :)

Yes, price is an indicator of quality but not a guarantee

I am a similar club member---my friend, #1 fruit seller in the market has a basket of free fruits that I pick up every time.I go over there,---- at least once a week....we forage, also. way more fun. If there are primo fruits I will buy them--otherwise I buy the cheap fruit or the free ones....
@allthefruit23 күн бұрын
Great place where the markets have free fruits. Bless this merchant. In Germany they will throw overripe fruits in the trash and usually pour detergent over them so poor people can not take and eat them. This is a sin
@Sahajayana-Nirvanasara22 күн бұрын
Agreed. The Disconnect to Prior Reality is All Pervasive. Which is along the lines of Why humans do not see that "all gods are demigods"---these are the same ones who throw away ripened and overripe fruits.Not to mention the evil of pouring detergent over fruits .oh well, no one ever said this planet is within the perfected realms.

Wax for fruit can improve longevity hugely, one paper found for oranges it kept them tasty and solid for an extra month and a half on average at room temp if it was carnuba E903 or even shellac E904 i dont mind. but EU legalised E914: Polyethelyne wax 😂 they reckon its ok to put plastic on it because it doesnt get digested... mmm sure.. sad.
@allthefruit23 күн бұрын
Yes, this is sad. Better forage fruits

a FAIR price for the fruit the farmer has produced is essential.as you said small farmers cannot compete with large monoculture corporations regarding logistics and labour costs.worse when european farmers have also to deal with influx of other fruit from Peru Morocco etc grown under other rules or none regarding water, fertilizer and chemical use.strawberries from Morroco recently found to have hepititas A in spain, they were cheaper than Huelva spanish strawberries ...the big picture has to be looked at,and if we want a new generation of farmers we must also recognise the value of the work they do on all levels including the conservation of biodiversity ,nutricional value of local v far away and of course carbon footprint. as for subsidising small farmers(or big ones),i see this as a distorsion of reality businesses doomed to never be sustainable even though they have the sticker to say they are ECO this bla bla ...on the Canary island thats all they ever talk about,subsidised everything, Greenwashing with EU next generation money. basically a whole parallel industry of public so called servants making sure they have jobs forever holding the purse strings..

greenwashing is so bad. its a joke for many. in the uk we now get adverts about soap with "a plant based ingredient" 😂 vegan bleach 😂

i don't even buy fresh berries anymore, i switched to frozen, which i mix in with yogurt. and yes they are VERY cheap.

Yes frozen ones are cheap since you can store them

Usually i feel better when i wash supermarket fruits. Hard to explain
@jacobski721620 күн бұрын
@@allthefruitmakes sense considering there could still be pesticide residues on unwashed fruits from the stores, especially fruits with a natural waxy coating like blueberries where it might stick onto the wax harder, who are also one of the most sprayed fruits/berries. When they wash the fruits after picking it is nowhere near as consistent and thourough as when you wash them yourself at home.

I honestly can't tell if you're justifying buying cheap food produced by major corporations or listing all the reasons why it's a really bad idea to buy cheap food from major corporations... You basically said one thing but then gave all the reasons why a smaller organic/sustainable farmer would produce much higher quality food than a major corporation would bother even trying.
@allthefruit24 күн бұрын
Both. I often buy from small farmers in my area but when im in a big shop i buy the cheap saisonal fruits. Also i know that some of the small farmers in my area buy cheap foreign produce and put local labels on it to make a profit
@recyclingnik25 күн бұрын
what is the white stuff on it ? the stuff you washed off.
@allthefruit24 күн бұрын
Good question. The visible white stuff was just on that super cheap badch in different supermarkets. Maybe a reason to buy more expensive fruits

i am horrible. i wait till all the fruits go on sale, purchased 2kg of strawberries for 2£ yesterday 😂 am i reducing waste or am i forcing farmers price down? 😢
@allthefruit23 күн бұрын
Shops will pay the cheapest possible price to farmers anyways. Buy fruits on sale and safe them from the trash
