I have like 17 consoles all hooked up, ready to go at a moments notice. Some of them haven’t been played in over a year, but my gaming tastes change all the time, so I love having everything ready to go whenever I want it. I hadn’t touched my Sega Saturn in forever, and then last week I spent 3 days straight playing Panzer Dragoon. Now I’m playing PS1 and Switch. In my experience, just keep everything, cause eventually you will want it again, even if you think you won’t.

I watched your last video where you talked about being content with what you have is important. I began to remember how I would play the heck out of my N64, My game cube and my ps2 and then Xbox 360. I only ever had 1 console at a time. And I found that I would play the games I had and I had fun. I didn’t worry about the new releases constantly. Now as an adult I have 3 consoles and a $1500 pc and I struggle to choose what to play on and what game to play. I’ve began to stick with Nintendo more now as an adult with 2 kids because the games are so easy to pick up and play and put down if I’m needed.

Before I read the comments I was thinking....ok your content on Xbox Series S brought me here. Then you switched to the gamer dad with focus on the PC handehelds which really appealed to me as a mid 40s guy who primarily games on Deck. Now its Nintendo-centric lol. Its a bit jarring wirh the shifting focus but hey do you. I generally like your vibe and what you have to talk about so I will be here for your new 'Nintendo- focused' commentary. All the best bro.

Nothing particularly wrong with it but this channel gives me whiplash lol. I subbed back when your steamdeck videos started originally and have been off and on since then because of the bouncing around. I’m still staying subbed because I enjoy the videos and the coffee stuff as well but I can totally relate in a way. I’ve gravitated more towards just playing whatever pleases me at the time by limiting myself by category, and then randomly picking a game to play. It’s worked so far. Working my way through the Zelda games currently. Point is, don’t stress yourself out with the method to which you play games, if you can just play games. Though I do understand where you’re coming from. Edit: wanted to add that I totally still enjoy the videos and particularly enjoy the mix of coffee and gaming. I wouldn’t mind if you ever gave more recommendations for coffee making and such. Been getting into it lately.

Dad ran computer shop so we had a snes and got N64 early on, family Mario Kart races got intense and I was obsessed w Mario 64. Julien just a bit of advice from someone who can somewhat relate to you. I have been through every console( over the past two generations in particular )I have bought and sold each one several times as I can’t mentally handle having more than one gaming device ( number 1 I don’t have the time with kids and number 2 it literally clutters my mind -you’d think more choice would be great but honestly the thought of 2-3 devices To play on just stresses me out ) I sort of get your situation or maybe I’m way off and I haven’t totally found a way to resolve it. I did do a gaming hiatus for a few weeks which I think helped and I sort of get your view of playing with your kids to reignite your hobby I just think I’m always personally searching for that same feeling gaming gave me years ago and it just doesn’t hit for me like it used to so I’m always buying the next big thing in hope it fixes my issue but it never seems to do. Maybe try a break from gaming for a few weeks - you seem interesting enough where gaming doesn’t define you or your channel . Hope this comes across as a positive take on the situation. I’ll be watching regardless .

Dude, reading all these comments. I get it, I’m indecisive too and don’t know where to dedicate my time and energy into all the things I love. As a subscriber I love hearing you talk about all of your interests. I think the main part of confusion is the ultimatum type of conversations. “Why X is the only console for me” etc. maybe reframing them and making it seem less dramatic won’t mislead people as much into thinking you’re permanently shifting your interests or content. Anyway, always good stuff and see you on the next cup ☕️ 😎

I feel like I have too many nintendo moments that come to mind to share. But one would be me and my dad trying to beat the original Splinter Cell game on GBA. My dad was a big tom clancy fan, and so he liked that about the game, and I liked the game part. I always just thought the game was weird, but it would never save our progress. now I know it was probably a faulty cart, but we had such a fun time trying to beat that game together. We still talk about it. I am hoping to give him an anbernic system with some of the other games we used to share. Your video helped me remember how much of my childhood and even modern gaming experience was shaped by nintendo. I never had anything else until I had the money to buy a ps3 for myself. and even now, I find myself waiting for the super switch like a kid in a candy store. Great cup JD. I understand completely focusing only on Nintendo, after all it’s something you can have with your kids too and not having to keep up with all the other jazz is by far the most on brand thing for you. I remember seeing other videos that you often described that but getting lost I the “all in one” scenarios. I would suggest only maybe don’t get rid of the steamdeck, as I’m on the similar situation as you, and the magic was gone from steamdeck for a while, I found the magic later on just like I did with the switch. I just finished Elden ring on steamdeck docked, on a huge 4K tv, that before I would think it looks ugly, the more I focused on switch the more it complimented my experience on SteamDeck too. Hope it helps, waiting to see what ya gonna cook soon

I love the Switch. I've been thinking about why that is. I notice on PC/AAA I feel like things are pushing more into multiplayer/live services. It's a lot of forced grouping, you have to know the "meta", you're expected to know the content before you play it. So I spend a lot of time watching youtube videos of exactly what to do/spec before I get to "enjoy" the game. Even single player games like Elden Ring I felt like watching youtube guides was necessary to play the game. I almost *never* get that feeling from Switch games.

I only game on PC and Steam Deck unless its fighting games which are on PS5. The kids basically have the consoles in the house. I will play a Switch game if its a big Nintendo first party title but not expecting any more of those until their next console. But right now I'm focusing on my Steam backlog. I have 700 games on Steam and finished about 100. Im not buying any more games until I finish another 100 (which started over a month ago, I'm 8 in, 92 to go) and its been liberating, I always feel awful buying games knowing I likely wont play it anytime soon and I already have so many games that I want to play and this is finally giving me the chance to finally play them. If I don't like the game I will just remove it from my Steam Library, if I don't want to finish it now, I will move on to something else in my library but so far I'm having alot of fun actually enjoying the games I have and it alienates the FOMO for when something does come out: I can buy it later when I actually intend to play it. Its all about finding what brings you joy, after all gaming is a hobby not a chore.

This last week I booted up my Xbox for the first time. And it didn’t feel right. I was logging on to cancel game pass. But I felt that backlog drain. I also felt more anxiet/stress. Holding a scuf and wearing turtle beaches just added a weird need to be better. Where as on switch I’ve play Zelda botw, Mario kart as well as games that I bought in the back log again. And played them feel free. I don’t know how else to explain it besides I get it. I’m feeling it and living it.

Like you, I too feel like trying to keep up with the circus that is gaming in current year is exhausting. I too have largely returned to Nintendo, as well as PC gaming for the things I can't get on Nintendo (I am a Resident Evil and Souls-like fan). I have no intention of selling my PS5 anytime soon, but it is largely used for watching Netflix these days, sans the occasional exclusive. I think the thing that is rubbing people the wrong way is they are associating the content with a specific topic rather than with your personal journey. I can see why people consider it "whiplash," but it's an optics problem. When you see the cups more like diary entries, the content is consistent.

I sort of understand your thought process, only difference is I didn’t want to completely eliminate my access to next gen. So in case something cool releases I’ll pick it up. And I don’t want to be limited by fps/resolution, for example sonic generation x shadow will probably be limiting on switch and for those saying get on switch 2 it’s the same thing when a newer more demanding game comes out. Imagine having sonic frontiers on switch be your main way of playing it. Not for me man, gimped graphics. Bad frame rate and bad res on docked tv. And like bro I’m not going to play kingdom hearts on cloud, I refuse to allow a company to limit me like this. Thus I have chosen gaming pc/steamdeck/windows handheld as my main ecosystem. Nintendo switch is cool but the library is too limiting to be my main console. Pc/some windows handheld or steam deck with maybe a switch on the side for Nintendo exclusives/certain 2d games is the way for me. In a perfect world Nintendo catches on and starts porting their games to steam but until then this combo is the one for me.

New subscriber here. I can relate to a lot of what you're saying. I was a Nintendo kid with the SNES to the Gamecube. Then I jumped to XBOX with the 360, had a ton of fun, but by the end I grew tired of unfinished games and content being stripped just to be sold to me later. I had a huge collection but gave it to my father and bought a WiiU as I had grown to miss my Nintendo days. The console was doing poor and I had less than 15 games but I got so much out of them. Now playing Switch with my 5 year old daughter is the most fun I've had in gaming, we completed Luigi's Mansion 3 together and just that memory alone is worth all the other great titles on other consoles that I miss out on, so I am very satisfied sticking to one console.

You do you! Nintendo 1st party Games = Fun and I will always play them via switch or emu device. I will always have a handheld PC going forward that doubles up as the emu device and to play games that I can’t get on the switch or run poorly on it.

Read through all the comments before posting. Whew. That was a lot. Anyway. You do you man. Those launch days of the switch were amazing. Launching with Zelda was the best thing Nintendo could have done and I have fond memories of that time. Sadly, I don’t think they will ever outdo themselves in regards to a console/software launch. Here’s hoping they do.

I’m a dad too and a gamer my son adores Xbox but I find the way Xbox going atm is just going to an app on a device so we primarily game on steam deck with gamepass and the switch we play a lot of Kirby together and when I get my own downtime I tend to play point and click adventures on the deck in bed will always own a deck and switch

@@Giggglebooyou gotta remember, he’s a stay at home dad. While most of us probably have like 2-8 hours a week to game, he’s doing it daily and it makes SOME sense that things would get stale faster for him than the average consumer. That being said. I think he should just embrace the ever changing lifestyle and not to get too locked down into one specific thing

@@Gigggleboo I’m trying to play devils advocate here for him. I still think he’s exposed to this stuff way more than most “normal” people who are working 40-60 hours a week and have kids. It took me until now to finally beat FF7 rebirth (damn near 4 months with the same game). I get where you’re coming from, and seeing him bounce back and forth can be exhausting if you’re expecting something else. I’ve been here long enough to know that this is just kind of how he is. It’s also a sign of the times. When we were kids we all had 1 game for the entire summer to play. Now you can play thousands of games and FOMO creeps in, and yada yada yada….its a lot to take in. Give the dude a little grace. The world is hard enough
