The Infiniti G35 and G37 are both stunning luxury sports cars only rivaled in performance and quality by their German counterparts at Mercedes and BMW. Both of these cars offered some of the latest technology when they were released and both are powered by similar naturally aspirated V6 engines. I am going to cover some of the reasons that I chose to purchase the Infiniti G35 over the newer model Infiniti G37
The main factors that drove my decision to choose the G35 over the G37 were the performance and the aesthetics. The second generation G35 which came out in 2007 and 2008 looks visually very similar to the G37. Furthermore, the price difference between the vehicles is marginal. Prices for the second generation G35's are virtually identical to the G37's.
However, despite these similarities, the G35 is built to be a more primal sports car while the G37 surrounds it's driver with luxury. The chassis for the V36 Skyline, which is the same car as the G35, was stiffened 60% after the redesign. In addition the V36 chassis G35 recieved a more powerful higher revving VQ35 engine dubbed the VQ35HR. The HR stands for High Revolution. The G37 utilizes a slightly larger VQ37VHR engine that is based on the earlier VQ35HR. The G35's powerplant makes an impressive 306 horsepower, with the ability to pick up 3 horsepower at speeds over 50 miles per hour. The G37 engine produces 330 horsepower, just 24 more ponies then the G35. The catch however is that the G37 is 200 pounds heavier then it's older brother the G35. The curb weight for the G35 comes in at 3,500 pounds giving it a weight thrust ratio of 11.3 pounds per horsepower. This is identical to the more powerful G37.
Alright, so from a performance aspect at least, the G35 is a lighter car with similar weight to thrust. This coupled with the G35's more aggressive transmission results in a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds for the G35 and 5.6 seconds for the G37.
The second reason for choosing the older G35 over the newer G37 is the more aggressive front and rear bumpers. I was always a fan of the G37, in fact I decided to buy my Infiniti after going for a ride with my buddy in his G37. However small the difference is, the G35 has a slightly more aggressive physique then it's younger brother.
