As a 7 year semi casual hard core, constant player of PoE who randomly found your video, here are some things of note: -They will never change how gem info is portrayed, but I will say: you can read the Green Text above all the blue detailed numbers you read out in the video, that’s where your condensed and helpful info is. Including what the 200% freeze thing means. -For the passive tree, do a middle ground approach. Plan ahead like. 10 points or so. Don’t have to read the entire tree, just also don’t only look 1 passive ahead. -They will never make a new player league/different experience. And the devs debated hiding the skill tree for lv 1 guys, but for now want to leave the “open and then they instinctively zoom out” experience to weed out those who will stay. Best you got is your first gem choice from the NPC has some videos on what future support gems work with it. And with a bit of logic on what passives to take for the main skill you wanna use, finishing the campaign is very possible, but just sheer inexperience will make going far into the endgame tiers very hard without constantly dying or not having enough dps. (Though there is no timers on boss killing) -You will always be constantly finding new mechanics and figuring out the game for a long time, such that “just log in and play” chill couch gameplay isn’t until far into the endgame where you have multiple things setup and ready to casually farm in. -As for your specific video gameplay, Please press the Z button so your loot stops being hidden on drop. And turn on Ally and Enemy Hp bars in the settings.

After a little over 12k hours in Path, the two best ways to bring new friends into the game are as follows: Option 1 (Blue Pill) Build guide, as was stated in this video. Some people like this as an option, knowing they won't need to restart or hit many walls. I do not enjoy this and learn more from hitting those walls and figuring it out, so I personally did Option 2 (I also started in Hardcore, and died often, so I'm probably in the minority). Option 2 (Red Pill) Tell them to go for 75% in Fire, Cold, and Lightning Resistances, while grabbing Life on the skill tree, whenever they are close, and don't use Energy Shield gear, yet. Other than that, do what's logical. You'll be able to get through the campaign and probably to Yellow/Red maps, but your damage will fall off without understanding the mechanics behind increasing your damage. This way of playing the game will let you hit barriers and allow you the chance to figure them out yourself. I tend to also supply the knowledge that Active skill gems can link to Support skill gems to modify their behavior (sometimes, just granting More damage), and that these gems must be linked. As an aside, I truly do believe that the Red Pill option is much better for learning the game. My friends who have gone the Build Guide route ask me questions incessantly, every single league, about basic mechanics and don't bother to google anything, so they don't retain that knowledge. I recommend getting stuck and figuring out the answer. That is the best way to experience Path of Exile.

By "understanding the mechanics" you mean "some guy told me this is the weapon i should use to do more damage" there are ten trillion different damage types and critical hit types, it would literally be easier to build a rocket ship than to actually do the math for damage scaling in poe.
@honordevs
@honordevs 10 ай бұрын
There are a few different damage-types in Path of Exile, but no where near what you're saying. I'll even fit them into this comment: Physical, Elemental, and Chaos. You use one of them, then deal Damage Over Time (as an Ailment or not), and/or just regular up-front damage, called a Hit. Hits can Crit, or not. There are a few niche things like Reflect (impale, included), but 99% of the game can be played with basic ARPG knowledge. Nothing I've said, other than mentioning impale, is considered "out of the ordinary" for a Diablo-like/ARPG game. Of course the type of damage has a name, like Ignite or Poison, but that's literally the same in every ARPG. I wouldn't call it confusing or weird. It doesnt matter how deep the mechanics of a game are if I cant figure it out without asking for help you made it wrong. This is why I like Last Epoch so much. The skill trees are manageable and dont make my eyes glaze over any time I look at them

The prevailing opinion around the PoE community is that a new player should not use a build guide. I would agree. As a lover of PoE, I did not beat the campaign until my third character. That new player mode suggestion is brilliant.

People are too afraid of failure in a game. They view a character that cannot progress any more as "wasted time" when in reality you spent that time learning the game, and (hopefully) having fun. People need to be more okay with hitting progression walls, starting over and trying something new, taking lessons learned from the first time you played. This is how we played PoE in the closed and open betas, and on launch. You don't need a guide until you are neck deep in maps or if you just cannot figure out a specific interaction.

You have no way of understanding someone starting poe in 2023, a vast majority of hardcore poe players would quit pretty quickly if they tried starting the game today, its like in d2 how you can "up" items to make them better, except in poe there are five hundred different ways to "up" each item, maybe you beat shaper and eater, then you realize that to progress further you have to do an amount of grinding that makes diablo 2's grail (easily 20k hours) seem like a light nap. In d2 you'll probably gather runes and keys to trade up for items you need, in poe there are seven thousand different currencies all with different price ranges at different times in the season, not everything can be googled even though i spent way more time googling than actually playing the game, when i quit i had like 10 tabs completely full of stuff, i was about to go through every single item and check their worth, would have taken many hours, glad i uninstalled.
@silvermunkee
@silvermunkee 10 ай бұрын
@@pokemonfan2630 I doubt I would quit if I started today. I played in closed beta when hardcore was the "only way to play the game", and I was TERRIBLE. I had no idea what anything did, it took me 3 or 4 characters just to get to my first map. I never made it out of the first 5 tiers of maps because I kept dying (until I started playing standard in open beta). And it was amazingly fun. Because every time I saw something I didn't understand, or died to something new, I enjoyed getting to learn something for my efforts. It's true there is a lot more to learn, but many people see that as more game to enjoy, not something to hate. Just my 2c.

@@pokemonfan2630 or you just activate a loot filter and you know if something good drops immediately and also save huge amounts of time picking and selling items. There is an option to customize the game experience for everyone in PoE, that is why it ends up being so complex but on the other hand if you invest the time it is that much rewarding since you can customize your experience both on gameplay and content which is pretty rare in games at least at this depth cant even think of another game with all the options you have.

I dont know who you heard that the best option is to follow a build guide but that guy probably has no idea, its best to go blind following the basic things every ARPG character needs life/resists

That's pretty debatable. I think both are viable, but I have known tons of people who would have quit if they didn't have a guide on their first character.

As a veteran of the game, I agree the barrier of entry is higher than most and that would scare away the random Timmy picking up the game not knowing whether it is for him or not, but if you feel overwhelmed by the first 2 gems and the skill tree, this game is not for you and a more casual Last epoc or Diablo would suit you better. I started by just randomly checking it out as well and it didn't capture me, didn't even finish mud flats in act 1. Later when I found a guide and saw what was possible I knew where I was going and loved it, 4500+ hours later I'm still in love with the game and wouldn't have it any other way

These are our choices, mind numbingly boring and dull diablo or completely insane convoluted poe, there's so much room between them.. i don't understand, i really wish i would have started poe at launch, go try to play everquest and you will understand how new players feel trying poe.

@@pokemonfan2630 Last Epoch as far as I understand is a decent middle ground between the complexity of POE and the casual friendliness of Diablo, so I think there are a few choices. I understand how new players feel when starting, but it is kindof a check to see whether you embrace the complexity early or shy away from it, instead of investing 200 hours into the game and then getting to a point of, oh this is hard and not for me, I wasted my time

well you can try to follow hardcore builds for tankier characters, that way you rarely die, or learn and study those builds enough to make your own.
