This is why I'm still vegan after 7 years! In no way is this a hate/shaming video for those no longer choosing to be vegan. Like I always say - your health is number one. I just felt super compelled to share my story with you! ❤️🐰🌎 xx Kristen

I have been vegetarian for 35 years and vegan for ten. I could never even consider giving it up. I am a recent cancer patient and still have years of scans before I am considered cancer free, so I have for the past few months become a wholefood plantbased vegan. No more junk food for me. I became vegetarian for animal welfare reasons, and now for my health as well. I think this is the year of the vegan, for whatever reason you become vegan, it's the best thing you can do for the animals, the environment and for your health. Just do it, it's never been easier ❤

I’m a lifelong vegetarian and have been mostly vegan for 15+ years. Now, I’m 60 and feeling fine... I would say that my secret is avoiding diets that are too restrictive. Don’t try to be all raw, all fruitarian, all starch, or all anything. Get some variety and eat whatever healthy food you feel like eating even if it isn’t always the “best” food recommend by the latest guru of the day.

Yes I started taking away meat about 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I noticed beef and sauces caused my flare ups and over the past 10 years I took away beef and pork first. I ended up on Medicines that helped but still felt horrible. I took away all meat but seafood about 3 years ago. In the last year and half I have been vegan and no medicine and feeling much better and went back to doctor and no sign of Rheumatoid Arthritis so because of this feeling I will always be vegan. I enjoy your videos. Thank you

I definitely can empathize more easily with "cute animals" though of course ugly animals deserve to live too, but MAN I saw an article about how damaging prawn fishing is to the ocean and it just hit me like a ton of bricks--just a wave of sorrow for those water bugs. I was imagining what it would be like to be taken out of the ocean and brought to a restaurant where someone gleefully eats them. Folks need more empathy. Just sit and think about it for a while. I guess my point is, I used to think vegans were too emotional and now I'm that sensitive vegan. 🤷‍♀️ It's hard sometimes to be so aware and compassionate. ✌🏽
@KristenPound
@KristenPound 5 жыл бұрын
I can totally empathize with this too. It's totally hard to understand when you're not vegan and your eyes just haven't been opened up yet. It's also super hard to be vegan and have to go through seeing everyone else just not understand where you're coming from. The life of being a vegan, eh?! lol

I love this! KZfaq gave me a notification that you uploaded a new video, and when I saw the title I had to watch it immediately! Thank you for this! I totally agree with you, my main reason for going and staying vegan is for the animals. I can never see myself going back after knowing what happens, I can not knowingly contribute. We make horror movies around the same concepts as the normal practices of animal agriculture. When we show these same things happening to humans it is considered torture. Watching "The Handmaid's Tale" with vegan eyes was horrifying and frustrating because so much of it is a mirror of the dairy industry. Using the bodies of "lesser" female's for what should be their beautiful abilities is what we do to cows millions of times a year. The environmental, physical and mental health aspects are amazing benefits as well, but being morally consistent is the main reason I am and always plan to be vegan. You and your 21 day challenge were such a big help on getting my plant based diet started on a successful foot and I'm forever grateful! 💚🐷🐮🐑🐔🐣💚

(See The Vitamin B12 Issue by Dr. Gina Shaw; Vegan Vitamin B12 Deficiency is a Myth by Cindy Jones-Shoeman; and Vitamin B12 Deficiency-the Meat-Eaters’ Last Stand by Dr. John McDougall, M.D.) These bacteria also exist in the soil. So you can let your body produce it naturally, which is what we all do, or eat some UNWASHED, ORGANIC vegetables once in a while. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that 39% of Americans have low levels of B12. If only 1% of Americans are vegan, how can a B12 deficiency be a vegan issue? After 16 years of practicing veganism without taking a single vitamin, I had my B12 level checked on October 24, 2012. It was 543 pg/mL. The normal range is between 271-870 pg/mL. My level is perfect because the human body needs just three micrograms of B12 per day. If you want to see the rest of my bloodwork, scroll up to the 7th paragraph. I want to clarify that-even though I am opposed to the vitamin industry-I'm not an anti-vitamin activist. I'm an animal liberationist. My only concern is making sure that animals don't suffer. If you want to take vegan vitamins or supplements, or your doctor and parents insist upon it, then do it. If you want to waste your money on this stuff, I really don't give a shit. Ingesting a shot of liquid B12, or popping a pill, takes a few seconds. Stop obsessing about it. When I discuss non-animal-suffering issues, I'm just providing you with information. Take it or leave it. Vitamin B-15 • Pangamic Acid (Destroyed by heat) - Cabbage, chlorella, grains (all), juniper berries, nutritional yeast, nuts (all), seeds (all), sprouts (all), unwashed organic vegetables (all), wheatgrass Vitamin B-17 • Amygdalin • Laetrile (Destroyed by heat) - Almonds, apricot kernels, blackberries, celery, chlorella, cranberries, elderberries, flax (oil/seeds), garlic, grains (all), macadamia nuts, mung beans, raspberries, seeds (all), sprouts (all), strawberries, wheatgrass Biotin (B Complex) Beans (all), chlorella, fruits (all), grains (all), nutritional yeast, nuts (all), seeds (all), soy, spirulina, sprouts (all), vegetables (all, especially swiss chard), wheat germ, wheatgrass Choline (B Complex) Almonds, avocado, bananas, beans (all), bean sprouts, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chick peas, chili powder, chlorella, collard greens, coriander, corn, fruits (all), garlic, grains (all), green beans, green peppers, green leafy vegetables, hemp (milk/oil/powder/seeds), lentils, lima beans, nutritional yeast, nuts (all), oranges, parsley, peas, pistachios, potatoes, quinoa, raisins, romaine lettuce, seaweed, seeds (all), shiitake mushrooms, soy, spirulina, squash, sun-dried tomatoes, walnuts, wheat, wheat germ, wheatgrass, zucchini Folic Acid (B Complex) (Destroyed by heat) - Apricots, asparagus, avocados, beans (all), beets, beet greens, broccoli, cantaloupe, cauliflower, chlorella, citrus fruits (all), collard greens, cucumbers, grains (all), grapes, green leafy vegetables, kelp, lentils (all), mustard greens, papayas, parsley, peas, pecans, plums, prunes, raisins, romaine lettuce, soy, spinach, spirulina, sprouts (all), sunflower seeds, sweet potatoes, turnip greens, walnuts, wheat germ, wheatgrass Inositol (B Complex) Alfalfa sprouts, beans (all), chlorella, fruits (all), grains (all), hemp (milk/oil/powder/seeds), nutritional yeast, nuts (all), peas, spirulina, sunflower seeds, vegetables (all), wheat germ, wheatgrass PABA • Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (B Complex) Beans (all), chlorella, grains (all), green leafy vegetables, molasses (unrefined), mushrooms, nutritional yeast, spinach, wheat bran, wheat germ, wheatgrass Vitamin C • Ascorbic Acid (Destroyed by heat) - Apples, asparagus, beets, berries (all), broccoli, cabbage, cacao/chocolate (genuine cacao/chocolate is naturally vegan; it's a bean), cantaloupe, cauliflower, celery, cherries, chlorella, citrus fruits (all), cucumbers, garlic, green leafy vegetables, green peppers, guava, honeydew, kelp, kidney beans, kiwis, kumquats, lychee, mangoes, onions, papayas, parsley, peas, persimmons, pineapples, potatoes, radishes, spinach, spirulina, sprouts (all), sweet potatoes, tomatoes, watercress, watermelons, wheatgrass, yams Vitamin D • Calciferol Alfalfa sprouts, avocados, basil, carrots, chlorella, fenugreek (powder/seeds), garlic, green leafy vegetables, papayas, parsley, seeds (all), shiitake mushrooms, spirulina, SUNLIGHT, sweet potatoes, watercress, wheatgrass Vitamin D2 • Ergocalciferol Alfalfa sprouts, chlorella, spirulina, SUNLIGHT, yeast

I don't know who will read this but please consider veganism or at least reducing your animal consumption to 1-2 x a week maximum. We need to be the voice for these helpless animals. Thank you Kristen for your 7.5 years. It's not easy but so worth it. I always say you can be nutrient, mineral and vitamin deficient weather you are vegan or not. It's all about balance. Choose life for our beautiful animals. They deserve it, are worthy of it and we are not above them

Everyone who is vegan needs to be consuming 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed. And take your B12 supplement. This is essential to heart health. If you live in the northern part of the world then I recommend vitamin d ....I use a vitamin d & k combination.

Thank you, Kristen. Just discovered your channel. I'm vegan for just 20 months. I get nervous over seeing these ex-vegan videos, and I can't phantom the idea of ever stopping. 😭 So I needed to see a video where people have been vegan for some time and why it's worth it and how they're thriving. I'm vegan for health and ethics, so both my health and the animals are very important to me. I hope I never have to choose between the two, although I would just get with a plant-based doctor to try and rectify any issues. Also, I try to eat very simple, but balanced whole food meals. (I'm not a cook, and I like being minimalist, anyway). My biggest problem is *snacks* . 😳 I love ice cream, chips, chocolate, cookies, etc., but I'm hoping to get better with not overconsuming them (I have a very long eating disorder history and *years* of feeding my feelings, so I've actually *gained* weight as a vegan 😖). Anyway.. Thanks for the video. xx

Hi Kristen - I have been a vegan for almost a year and it has completely changed my life in wonderful ways! You were one of the first vegans on KZfaq that I watched and your passion and love for delicious food inspired me and helped me so much. Thanks for making this video. Even though my channel is not dedicated to veganism, I might do the same. You rock!

Ever since I can remember myself I hated eating animals. I never understood why people eat corpses. I didn't even have a great love for animals, it just grossed me out to eat dead ones. My parents accepted my being vegetarian when I was 12. I was vegetarian for ten years without any problems. At some point I started getting eczema rashes, and looked online to see if there were any home remedies, when I came across veganism. After watching a ton of "what I eat in a day" videos, the video "101 reasons to go vegan" kept popping up into my recommended, but I put off watching it because I didn't want to see myself as a hypocrite if I didn't commit. When I finally watched it, I learned that that cows had to be raped in the dairy industry, and that was it, that was all it took for me to go vegan. I have never looked back, and it's been just over 2 years of loving veganism and all it stands for.

Anyone who knows the huge destruction to the planet and the heinous suffering the billions of animals are put through in the animal agriculture. And the top diseases due to consuming animal flesh and their secretions.. I personally find it very hard to say, everyone should choose for themselves and we should respect their choices, when their choice (is it really their choice though when it's done mindlessly, conditioned with nonstop bombardment of misleading downright disinfo ads day in and day out??) their 'choice' is having a devastating effect on our planet, destroying our only planet! The violence destruction affects us all and I should respect the mindless actions of these folks. I've been vegan for over 2 decades and veg for almost 3 and will continue to make it as clear as possible.. going vegan is the least we can do!

@@KristenPound I was vegan before all the wonderful vegan utube vids/online community existed.. was not easy when I would literally be given lettuce 'Iceberg' lettuce and a couple slices of tomatoes =( at restaurants, but I kept on.. cause no one could get between my inner truth, what I knew to be in line with what made sense - living morally consistent, a nonviolent compassionate way towards all sentient beings and the planet. Nothing compares to it =)

If the animals weren't in the middle of us in plants, wouldn't they never live at all? And as for the environment, aren't "superfoods" flown from all around the world? Having your food flown or shipped in from all around the world puts far more carbon into the atmosphere than eating grass-fed, grass-finished cows.
@KristenPound
@KristenPound 5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Lot's of animals live freely in the wild without us eating them. Breeding animals for food (and other products) in such cruel conditions is what really gets to me. Especially because there is no reason for it. And yes, flying in superfoods and other tropical fruits and such is definitely not ideal for the environment. But it doesn't even compare to the footprint that animal agriculture is leaving on this world. I also just cannot even fathom ever eating the flesh of another dead animal ever again. But like I said in the video, I'm just a *super* sensitive person, so that's my choice. I know plenty of other humans (including some of my best friends) that choose to eat cows and other animals over plant-based foods. You do you. This is just what works best for me and I really felt compelled to share my story. I'm all about doing whatever I can for the environment though, so I really appreciate your input! I'm definitely going to do more research about the carbon footprint of what I'm currently eating. Thanks!

Good for you, it works for you, I was vegan for 11 years, and got very sick, I am back eating animal products. My doctor in switzerland, advised me to get high quality meat from organic farm. I have a family living close to me who keeps the animals in a healthy way.They are grass fed.
