Thanks so much for making this video! I’m in my first year with a charter in CA and am starting to feel the stress of trying to use the money lol Main reason I chose charter besides the fact I have no idea how to home school. Now that I have a better understanding I may break up with my charted as well in the future. Since my children are quite young and I can use the “money” I will continue. Because of the funds my daughter can take those expenses gymnastics classes lol

I’m so glad I’m not the only one feeling like this. I just did my first year in a charter and it’s been so stressful!!! I am really considering going back to doing PSA. I’m glad we tried it, we learned a lot because I had to do all the research they barely helped me with anything. They declined a bunch of stuff my son needed and I was like so what is the point of these funds if u wont even pay for his music instrument or experiments when I have hundreds of dollars left over? They rather keep that money for themselves than to use it on stuff my son actually needs. It’s not worth the stress for me. Too much checking in and submitting for us. We will definitely miss the online classes and field trips. Those I’d say are my favorite perks. Having my son participate in what feels like school. I might give it 1 more year not sure yet. I’m a single working mom and I really wish they just gave me that money to do with it as I please. I mean teachers get paid to teach why don’t we? Teachers dont teach for free and just get free supplies. 😣

This is precisely why I went straight to PSA…. All the charter school parents keep telling me to make the switch, but the funds are just not worth it for me.

It's not worth it unless your kid has a very specific interest that would be paid for by the charter. Most people do is get the money and then try to figure out a way to spend it, and that's just a recipe for exhaustion and frustration.

Bravo!!!! I have 3 kids...I took my son out of the charter. I have other 2 in it right now and I am thinking the same thing...I joined long time ago so they can take classes and they do not like to take classes....I have TONS of stuff at home that creates more issues because think about it...they take space and if you don't use them you feel guilty so is always in the back of your mind.,..and it multiplies...and most of the stuff ends up just taking space on the shelves....

I know what you mean about the funds... it took me a whole Saturday to recently spend all the $ we have left. I have sooo much crap everywhere.. it’s hard to find things or stay organized. It’s out 1 st year with the same program so I don’t know anything else. I had hoped to have more freedom.. instead I’m constantly on my children to keep working so we have enough samples and approved work done. Can you file a PSA in the middle of a year? Just wondering. Can you share videos of what you are doing.... maybe a typical day.... appreciate this channel and content 😊

Yes, you can pull your child out anytime, and file a PSA. There is information at the end of this video. I pulled my kids out in October I believe. I'll try to make a video with clips. The thing is, it's not always exciting, lol. There is a lot of reading, and a lot of writing, some piano, some foreign language, and some fun projects.... Let me try to do that for you!

The new rules are insane. I feel like I should be getting a paycheck for how much reporting to the school they require. The daily logging, creating all the leading plans in advance checking everything off over and over and the searching for vendors. Why doesnt the school have an easy process for ordering? Why do the parents have to do ALL the footwork when the school is getting paid and has the resources?

Wondering which charters are less demanding. I am tempted to join one to pay for sports for 2 kids and also hoping they can attend in person classes twice a week or something like that.

Blue Ridge all the way. I lead is no bueno, and Gorman is very in your business. Sky mountain is ok, but they offer less money, and have strange rules, like you have to spend a bunch on curriculum. I don't think I spend anything on curriculum, as I tend to get things used, so that would be bad for me. So yeah, I really like Blue Ridge. But it really does come down to the teacher that is assigned to you. You'll be happiest if you get a referral from a friend if possible.

Do you have to return the books you purchased with the funds when you withdraw your child from charter school? I also spent most of the funds on books to create our own little library.

With ilead, yes you have to return anything that isn't consumable, including books

Hello 👋 so to my experience, I lived in California and had my kids in charter homeschool. Before my move to AZ. The charter school had a list of things I needed to return. So I went through the list got every item they asked for. And kept a lot of curriculums, books, and other resources they didn't bother asking me for. Im an independent Homeschool in AZ and still use some of the curriculums I kept. 😊 hope this helps.

@HomeschoolVoices

It really doesn't, unless there is some really burning desire for something specific that the charter will pay for. Otherwise, it's too much stress.

Charters are a headache.
@alisiajimenez
@alisiajimenez Жыл бұрын
Exactly... I told my friend this a few days ago. She files a PSA every year for her daughter. Some parents don't like to spend all their time and effort in organizing their homeschooling. You can't be a lazy person and homeschool your children. It won't work.
@alisiajimenez
@alisiajimenez Жыл бұрын
@@Seashellsbytheseashore21 It really depends on the charter and how dedicated you are in homeschooling your children. Are you more of a wake up in the morning, do whatever you want, or learning happen naturally type of homeschooling parent? Or... Are you one of those parents that sticks with a schedule and uses time wisely? Because I can imagine a headache when you are not organized. Homeschooling doesn't mean no type of structure at all in your children's education. You wouldn't want there to be any gaps in their learning because when they get into high school it will show the laziness of the parents who chose to homeschool or that didn't help their children, just letting them learn when they want to learn. Children naturally just want to play all day. So us as parents have to teach our children to enjoy learning. Some children will like learning and some will need someone to motivate them. Yes, it takes work, but it's worth it at the end of it all. 😊
