I know I'm late to this video but all I got to say is the film festival gives me a better chance of putting myself out there as far as my screenplays go. I have submitted my scripts to production companies before and to this day I still haven't gotten a response. Film festivals, selected or not, I did get a response. Of all the film festivals I attended I did get to meet many filmmakers out there all of which we connected and network. Unless you know someone in the business you have to build your credibility, whether a writer or whatever it is that you plan on doing as a filmmaker, out to the world. Sadly that's just the nature of the beast in the industry.

I really like this guy, but he's coming from a place of bitterness. Rather than admit that he needs to get better at writing, he says that the festival scene is ego driven. People who submit films into festivals are just like him, they want their film seen. If he had a better sucess rate at festivals, he would be urging people to submit their film into festivals.
