This was a very interesting video. As a person who has never dated a day in her life [like never, not one date at all] I guess I am a scholar of love without the whole 'i need to be in a relationship just to be like everyone else' and just wait for the day that happens. thank you for the video!

you are 100% correct. I remember when my bf saw me for the first time and smiled at me, I was literally crying and shaking cause I saw what was coming next lol. but then everything becomes fine. I think love is not something you should be afraid of. it will somehow eventually be fine.

on the topic of love and anxiety, it becomes so much more complex after one has experienced the emotion to its full extent and has been stripped of it again. it seems as if a state of mind and being, and once its revoked its like starting over life again. i think this is why people are obsessed with love. They like the idea of changing the entire scope of their life through the simple action of entwining with a partner. this is why people love heartbreak or breakup songs too. because the topic at hand is freeing the self from this emotion or person that once meant so much to you. so basically i think it often boils down to wanting to change yourself, or free yourself- unless of course the love was not planned and it happened upon a whim.

crazy how i had some similar thoughts today. i guess i truly am a scholar of love as i've never established a relationship but have all sorts of theories and explanations for what is or should be, and never imagined how this would affect my position towards love and the other person itself in actuality. in my head i also always picture myself as an awkward tongue-tied loser which is why i never make it past the online chatting stage on dating apps, but today i realized i can be quite inquisitive and a good conversationalist with most people when the moment calls for it. 😅

Thank you for the video! As a rather anxious person, I can say that anxiety itself is a lot about expectations about me and others. But love is truly difficult one because, as you say, it is too subjective experience to deal with it with rationality (and ironically rationality is one of the most useful techniques to cope with anxiety 😅). Your video is really helpful!

Very good Robin. I like how you connected Hamlet to this video essay. And I found myself laughing throughout the video due to how accurate it summarizes my experiences, and I am sure many others. We often find ourselves becoming scholars when confronted with the unknown, and until the ever growing anxiety driven day arrives "The Date" we keep asking ourselves the dangerous question, "What if?" which destroys the romance. Yes, we should embrace the anxiety in a positive light, and let ourselves be taken on an adventure. That is true romance. Thank you for the video.

Lots of my friends ask me advices when it comes to love, but I myself, get really anxious when I feel interested in someone (basically the start of love). I think about what could be and what should be. But feelings, especially love, is too complicated to be caged in a clear answer. Nice hearing what you have to say about it as it gave me a new perspective on love! Just seeing where it goes is also part of the adventure. Great video!

Estimulating essay, thanks. To define is to give an end, a goal, to something which, such as love, is mysterious in its comings and goings. Now, to live this insight is quite another matter, but worth the effort of being true to one's claritys (?). Greetings from México.

"Ask the most intellegent person what books he read" idk who said this quote but i read it from insta and its kinda true. Most of my friends are smart, and not in academic way but mostly street smart and ive been like an npc most of my life. They way they handled the situation and their ideologies always inspired me. They are cunning at the right moment and sweet at right time. They know how to manupilate others and shit and extremely good at networking. I wanted to become more smarter and not feel like an NPC. So I started reading books and that made me see the world in different view but when i asked them, most of them said that they never touched a book. They say its all experience and real life shit and even andrew tate said he dosent read books. Not saying that books are useless and even if you are "smart" books will make you more smarter but I find that interesting.

thank you dearly for this wonderful video, Robin! Just as an idle curiosity, what are your thoughts on free will? I'm currently being forced to drown in Nietzsche as part of my highschool studies and i'm curious as to how your goal of developing practical philosophy intersects with free will.

I particulary enjoyed the video, but I've tried not to apply it for romance but more for rather everyday relationships. It is true that in a world filled with fiction I may lose myself in the labyrinth of overthinking. Big breaths and closing my eyes help a little bit. :D

Aren't you basically saying be mindful? Live in the moment, not in your thoughts? It's the all encompassing answer that we practicing buddhists believe is the answer to most if not all of our imaginary problems. The problem is not how you are thinking, but that you are thinking. Live in the moment, experience, don't theorize the experience.

I know for sure I'm a scholar of love, I've always been scared to fall for the wrong guy and I've struggled with relationships my entire life, I friendzoned my best friend thinking being in a relationship with him would ruin our friendship but I was so fucking wrong, he's perfect and I only got to see that after he got in a relationship with someone else. Experience, be it good or bad is important, only thinking won't get you anywhere.

Get back to us about love when you have stayed married long enough to raise a good human being. In other words, when you have been a good husband and father. Then I will believe you know something about love.

Deep understanding and knowledge of love doesn’t have to be validated in the social institutions of husband and father. Love comes in many forms and everyone has the agency to comment on it from how they perceive it.
