Why Nelly Furtado Disappeared
#NELLYFURTADO
At first glance, Nelly Furtado had everything it took to be the worlds biggest pop star effortless versatility within her style and music, a humble personality, the perfect producer and singer duo, and her transparent yet classy sexiness. After a string of critically acclaimed albums and hits, she was nowhere to be found. She vanished while she was in her prime. Here’s what happened....
Some of Her Notable Hits: Promiscuous Ft Timbaland, Maneater, I’m Like A Bird, Say It Right, Turn Off The Light
Albums: Whoa, Nelly!, Folklore, Loose, Mi Plan, The Spirit Indestructible, The Ride
Associated Acts: Timbaland, Justin Timberlake

Having ur mental health and wanting to be a wonderful mother to her child are important enough reasons to fall out of the limelight. Also, look at all the awesome artists us fans have lost, because of how much turmoil being an entertaining celeb can be. Many ppl just thinks about fame and material things, but how can u ultimately enjoy it if ur mental health is damaged? It's so easy to put these ppl down or call them stupid for giving up fame but their actually the smart ones because they know when they've had enough before things gets too bad. JS

Possibly. But it's also an honorable "excuse". If you just failed, the door is still open if you are not a has been. It makes people go "awww". But by the numbers they just threw out and note she she did not just move to the country of her success, I think she just plain bombed. Likely she aggressively rejected the formula they gave her to follow. Be it dress, interviews, letting the media find her strategic places, all of that.

It feels like she accepted her moment had passed after 'Loose' and the split with Timbaland as a producer, and she was pretty much fine with it and just went back to living a lowkey life. I respect the hell out of that tbh. SO many musicians, especially the female pop star variety, are under SO much pressure to stay in the spotlight, have every single be a hit, and not take any breaks for fear someone younger and prettier and more marketable will steal your spot. Only a few of them seem to have that kind of staying power, and even then they can't or won't do it forever. Better to understand your limits as an artist, and be happy you had A Moment when you were on top of the world, and move on to different things or just bow out at your peak. Sadly the machine™ and men in suits don't seem to feel that way, to the detriment of many.

I’m glad she’s well now and I find it very respectable that she was able to seek her music career and care for her child at the same time because god knows how much stress that would do to even just do one. @@Dunkleosteusenjoyer Agreed, there is always a lot of garbage around. And the garbage of the past is often looked at with much better light in retrospect. Today's garbage will be tomorrow's gold. When I grew up, almost the whole body of music from the 1980s (except a few things like hardcore punk, some new wave, shoegaze music, and alternative) were considered to be garbage. Nowaways the 1980s is often considered the best decade of music, that would be insane to tell a teenager living in the early/mid-1990s who much preferred the 60s and 70s and any contemporary music perceived as "underground" and not perceived as made to top charts - most of the top of the pops style music was hated.

Nelly used to be one of my favorite artists and weirdly enough this video showed me some of what I saw in her. I think a lot of celebrities lose their identity when they're in the spotlight and many never recover or if they recover it's years later after Rehab, Alcoholics Anonymous, and/or a very public showing of them hitting rock bottom. Nelly didn't do that. She had the identity crisis that the bright lights bring, did some soul searching and said "No! This isn't me and I won't let myself become this person!" She'd rather be scrubbing toilets and caring for her Daughter than being on a stage in front of thousands of people and that is a GOOD thing. I wish more people had that kind of inner strength. Good on her.

I think the main reason she couldn't maintain the level of fame she had in the 00s is because she was all over the place, musically speaking. She went from a pop album to a folk album to another pop album to a folky Spanish language album to another pop album. Which is very confusing for the general public.

Exactly. Why would she even release an album in a language she doesn't speak? She's a Canadian of European (Portuguese) descent, not a Spanish-speaking latina or an artist from an American ghetto. She sold her soul for profit.

Mario Fernandes to be fair, I think the music she wanted to make and the music that was commercially viable were two different things. So I understand why she did what she did. It's still confusing for the general public though, because they knew her as a pop singer.

I don’t understand why people would want to be famous. I have mad respect for Nelly Furtado, in that she got her money and got out of there. People have to go harder every time, it’s like with every new album you basically have to reintroduce yourself, especially if you don’t make the same album repeatedly and have new music every 2 weeks. The dream would be to make a bunch of money, buy a piece of land and then do whatever you like and not have to worry about numbers. Just saying. BIG props to Nelly Furtado.

This is exactly why her fans love her. She's so down to Earth and relatable which is what a lot of people in the music industry don't realize and why don't connect with their fans. I'd really love to see her return to the music she made during her first three albums. Hopefully, Nelly and Timbaland can collaborate again so she can make a return to the music scene. Until then, I'll continue to enjoy her first three albums.
