Toyotas reliability gas gone down simply due to technological advancement. You know what is more reliable and less advanced? @@jimsteinway695 That’s not how it works. Unless a new engine is installed nobody is going to touch that with a 30 ft pole. Short block is not a real fix and no owner will pay top dollar for a time bomb that simply had its clock reset for a bit.

If you are in the market of a full size pick up truck, what would you be going for right now in 2024 or 25? Because I want a reliable truck and worthy. Nobody wants to pay over $65k on a pickup truck and has to return to the dealership every year or have a junk yard in his house! I live in PR, and we pay 20% more than you pay in the States! That's the reason that I'm seriously thinking about having a full size instead of a mid-size one because Tacomas here are over $55k. Ridgeline, $52k- $60k! Ranger's $48k up to $78k (raptor)😅. So if I'm going to pay for a pickup truck over $55k, I prefer to go with a full size!

They have sold approximately 250,000 Gen 3 Tundras and recalled about 97,000. It’s not a broken seat, radio software, plastic trim, burnt bulbs or something minor. They have issued a recall because of an engine issue. Most people can’t afford to replace a car every 3 months like the guys/gals on UTUBE.

The 2.7,4.0, 4.7,4.6 and 5.7 were all very reliable engines. Want to know what they all have in common? They were all dedicated truck engines and not gussied-up versions from cars. They took a tiny 3.4 luxury sedan engine and put it in a workhorse vehicle like a Tundra that is going to be abused regularly and requires constant boost in order to get the same power as a NA V8. Gee, what could go wrong?

Drive to work, camping, beat the shit out of that truck every day. They still drive the same reliable great looking truck 15 years later. Fast forward to now, there are videos of Tacomas failing within a month from purchase. Brand new $60K truck. This is not just a failure, this is iconic fuck up in change of direction for Toyota engineering. Very sad times for the brand.

I think people wouldn't be upset if the 3.4 Liter wasn't the only engine option. If they kept the 5.7 with a 10 speed for at least 4 model years as an option people be more accepting of the 3.4 Liter with issues if there was another engine option. Even ram kept there V6 with a twin turbo engine as an option. My biggest issue with the tundra and trucks in general is the trucks being overpriced. An SR5 Tundra shouldn't cost over 50K.

WRONG! This is much more pronounced than a phaser issue that is caused by cheap oil sold by the dealers. Toyota left metal shavings in EVERY engine for 3 years! This will end up being a 100% replacement rate for the whole engine! Not just a cam phaser, or lifters, or a turbo. EVERYTHING! Every part that had engine oil touch it. Every lifter, every bearing, every valve, every cam, every turbo, everything; on every single truck they produced. No other manufacturer has screwed up this bad on any single engine, and no other major manufacturer uses that shite engine in 100% of their trucks. This is bad for Toyota.

I have to disagree, Ben. There is a flaw with way the oil passageways were designed that causes a lack of adequate lubrication. The issues are being found in motors made in Japan and the US. Also, if you recently paid 50k+ for a vehicle and they are going to just go with a new short block, that is unacceptable. Give them a new crate motor of a new vehicle. Once a tech tears into one of these new motors, they will never be the same.

The "scale" of the engine issue is all of the engines made with this process... Toyota is playing semantics with the safety recall because they are saying that the hybrids, by nature of having the baby hybrid system, are not subject to the "safety" recall because when the engine blows up, the hybrid system can still technically keep your vehicle moving... but make no mistake, the hybrid variants also have the same manufacturing defect.

Same is happening with the hurricane 3.0 in the Wagoneer and now the Ram 1500. Engine failures are on the rise in these newly introduced turbocharged engines lately. With Toyota the block it self is twisting under torque even with the added bottom end bracing. The engine blocks for trucks have to be denser overall so it does not contort under stress

If you want a Tundra wait until 2025, or look at other manufacturers, this is a big problem for Toyota and no fix by them yet. If you have one of the years recalled and 2024 model you will have a hard time trading it in, nobody will want it and you're losing a lot of cash. I don't think anybody would buy a 2022-2024 knowing they have engine failures. Feel bad for owners of these vehicles that paid a large price. Agree 100% - people don't expect these failures from a Toyota...having said that there should have been a better auding process from the supplier side to ensure these types of mfg issues don't exist. Additionally, forcing OEMs away from large displacement naturally aspirated engines is wrong...let the consumer decide. I anticipate these issues becoming more prevalent in the truck market as a result.

I did a factory buy back at GM on an early 2000's GMC 3/4 ton. It varies by state to state but a dealer has three chances to fix a curtain problem. If they are different problems you start looking at time it was in the shop etc. Lemon laws are to protect the consumer and hold the manufacturer liable, people for some reason forget this and take the abuse. I drove the truck for several months until I did the lemon law, after, it put me back to square one like I never bought it. Also the Manufacturer has to pay your lawyer not you. At leas in Texas.

I have leased 4 gen2 Tundras succesfully. 6 months after my lease was finished, I had not found a deal/truck that was appealing to me. I was close to getting a Frontier with a 6' bed, but seat wasnt ideal, and the lease or financing werent great. After bad mouthing the gen3 Tundra, i wandered into my Toyota dealer looking for a 6' Taco 4 door. None there. I left with a 24 Tundra Crew short bed, TRD Sport Premium. MSRP $63k. Build date 3 weeks ago. They sold it to me $6500 off sticker AND leased it at a decent rate. Svc manager said he wouldnt be afraid of the '24. It's only been a week, so i havent had engine or trans failure 🤞🏼 Right now, i would say it's the nicest pick up truck I've ever driven. I've had many trucks from mid size to Super Duty Ford Lariats. Doesn't make me an expert, but this one drives anazingly. I can only hope Toyota figured out and solved the initial problems. Any truck today is going to be a gamble. I've heard many horror stories from the other brands as well, and i feel bad for anyone who's had any misfortune, and wouldn't belittle anyone else for their choice.
