The contract signing and video almost seemed like a purposeful counter to the Southgate news. By all accounts the deal was done a while ago and it was just a case of announcing it. Then they happen to announce it on the day Southgate essentially throws Ben under the bus. And the style of video was a 'What type of person is Ben White'. It may just be a coincidence but it seems like they knew after he told Edu he wasn't available that Southgate would have to speak about it in some way and they supported him via that video and announcing the new deal.

Ben White made a smart move. He just needs to focus on Arsenal because they pay his wages and for the manager who loves him. With all due respect to Ben white. People don't turn down playing for their country. Whether you think you're going to start or not. He should still be going. Not exactly sure what Southgate is meant to say when every reporter wants to ask him about ben white. Either he lies and says he hasn't been picked because there's other players available- everyone crucifies him for that. Or he tells the truth that White says he doesn't want to play. Everyone crucifies him for that too. There's no win scenario here. We don't know the full story behind the scene, it's all just speculating. But turning down playing for your country is unprecedented.
