I think the fact he tried to make them Look real was the problem. I mean, no one thinks a picnic table pulled halfway up a stair set is a natural spot. And no one complains.

There not talking about moving objects. No one said anything to daewon for moving around tables. The problem they have is he made skate spots from things he brought himself. Like the Allstate sign. It’s for sure a petty ass complaint tho. Skateboarding is made for innovators

This is a good point. I'm with Kennedy on the roll-ins and plywood landings, but that said I'm all for rigging up shit you've found at the spot. There's a piece of plywood here next this pile of dirt? Hell yeah, lets put the bin after it and do something. Often those sessions are the best as the stuff randomly at the spot might not be there for long. That's street skating. Hollywood props at a spot? Not so much. To his credit, he did hard tricks on them.
@Jarrodpimental
@Jarrodpimental Жыл бұрын
Even still. The picnic table was not MADE to be skated and moving it on to stairs makes it less skateable. He literally made benches that were lower than normal and designed to be grinded and then also tried to pass them off as normal spots he found. which used to be another aspect of skating, finding a spot was a pain in the ass, which is why there is so many picnic table clips, school yards were basically hassle free skate spots. but someone still had to jump that fence and test the water at some point. And you’re still fully Breaking the law to skate there on those tables. Steve get caught skating the all state sign he just packs it up and goes home, no destruction to property. It’s cheap on all levels.

Similar with the Jason Hernandez Bar. IMO, that's no different than moving a garbage can to the top of the bump so the skater can ollie it.

If you have to modify a spot to make it skateable its borderline unacceptable with a few exceptions like a piece of plywood at Clipper. However, Steve Berra is a PRO skateboarder that literally fabricated entire spots for a video part. It's simply cheating.

I skated more in the mid 80-00s but we used to drag shitty launch / wall ramps, slaughter curbs and skate boxes around when ever we had access to a truck. There's a difference between having one or two clips of a "fake spot" and having over half of your part on these movie production sets designed to dupe the audience into thinking they are real. That's why the "fake spot guy" label gets put on Steve Berra when Mike Mo, Guy Mariano, and Jim Greco all skated the same spots in their parts. Also the other guys are more likable than Steve Berra, which definitely has something to do with it.

100% don't care. I respect that he added things to make lines more interesting and amazing he made them look natural. How about in Birdhouse's The End when they put a neon green kicker ramp up to Texaco gas station pumps and the Blockbuster sign. Or when someone props up a street grate up with two skateboards and launches off and grinds an electrical box. Is that fake? It's all got a little D.I.Y.-ness to it. And I think that's cool.

When Guy Mariano skate built street obstacle nobody complained. Even MJ have some parts with built Street obstacle nobody complained too, But when Berra did that he was hated why??? Imagine a Kid in Africa became a good skateboarder as good as Felipe Mota that have video parts only on built street obstacle people love to see that. Berra is good on skating before his injury really good. You just dont watch a Skate Video because of the location of the Video but people watch Video to watch the Skater do gnarly Tricks. People talk this and that but because what Berra did back in then now peole have The Berrics a Safe Street Styled Park where many awesome Battle Commander Video was made. Many of the Famous pro nowadays skated and have fun. Appreciate what Skateboarders can do creatively Americans Complained so much on nonsense things while many New skaters specially on country that has no great roads like America, Europe and other countries have By the way im from the Philippines and we dont complained too much on the roads we have that almost seems to be unskate-able we would love to Skate Built street obstacle to our hearts desire.

What about Jeremy Wray and Heath Kirchart's parts in The End? They were manufacturing to a certain extent to pull off crazy stuff. Also what about setting up benches on the school yard, where does that stand?

In a world where they do there best to not make anything skateable but a skatepark, it makes sense, plus as you get older you don't care to risk a day in court for trespassing, I enjoyed his part liked his style and I never cared if that spot was there for the day or for everyone to skate. there are spots in most cities that don't even last a week before they skate stop it so no different. I don't live in Cali so I knew if it was a spot or not I was never going to skate/see it in person anyway. The skating was still real he wasn't there with a green screen the chance for injury or reward didn't change.

i don't really see much difference between this and what they did in birdhouse "the end" to make signs and bus stops skateable. or putting plywood or a ramp down for a run up or landing. i don't really care so much. berra gets more grief bc of his personality.

Let’s be honest most people were mad at the fact Berra was lying then double down on it when people called him out if he was honest from the geko I think people would of overlooked it and the difference with “The End” was that they weren’t trying to hide that they were making things to skate like the blockbuster sign they used obviously Berra got the idea from that but used an Allstate sign instead plus birdhouse even came out saying that they had to modify the block buster sing so that they could actually skate it for real which was why it was also acceptable he went to a real block buster sign where Berra just completely made his own which was why it was in the berrics lol can’t take a real sign like that lol IMO it was the length that he went to try to hide the fact that the object wasn’t real brick and doing that makes the trick that he did tainted bc just think how hard it is to do a trick like that on an actual brick ledge that’s why we don’t see skatepark clips in video parts unless it vert bc that a different entity in itself but because their are elements that go into a spots that are real street spots aren’t perfect bc of years of wear&tear and that’s part of the challenge why cheat yourself anyone can kick flip back board on a hand rail but not anyone can kick flip back board on hollywood high plain and simple

The problem is that everyone is a Berra hater for the dick he is now & can't separate or respect the past Berra from his current persona. Why is no one hating on Daewon for doing the same kind of stuff? But oh of course Daewon is a God to most ppl so a blind eye is turned 😏

@@EDDIEM0NS00N like I said there’s a difference between hiding something and just telling everyone “hey I’m making this shit up” you feel me bc there is a difference also I’m not even a Berra hater bc I use to be a big fan of alien workshop never hated on his skating he had to compete with guys like Ave, Dill, and reider lol dude has to be good to be on a team like that lol like I said it was just that fact they he tried hiding it then when he couldn’t hide it anymore just made excuses IMO if he just came forward then like I said I think it would of just passed along like nothing I’m an og been skating/collecting for 20+ years I’ve seen it all it’s mostly the newer generation that just doesn’t get this with all the new diy stuff going on but at the end of the day you have to know why DIYs started in the first place

I think that’s the problem, you can manufacture your own spot or obstacles just for fun and practice and learn on but trying to pass them off as real skate spots at a PROFESSIONAL level for a PROFESSIONAL video is whole different thing. Berra is a weirdo for sure.
