The British Army would run out of munitions within ten days of war breaking out, a former defence minister has told MPs.
John Spellar, who served as armed forces minister between 1999 and 2001, told Parliament: “The minister rightly speaks about the ability to sustain fighting, he knows that an exercise conducted with the Americans showed that the British Army would run out of munitions within ten days.”
Responding, the outgoing armed forces minister James Heappey said: “In exercises that I have seen where the UK have operated alongside the US what happens again and again and again is that American senior commanders hold the UK force elements in the highest of regard.”
In this video, Andrew Marr is joined by Lieutenant General Sir Simon Mayall to discuss what this means for the future of the British Army.

The major issue we have is so much wasted on privatisation of things that can be done in house, such as recruitment, we pay 100 of millions to companies that have never met recruitment targets, something when the armed forces did it, never had that much trouble hitting targets. General, the Ukrainians are firing about 5,000 shells a day, and the Russians are firing 20,000 shells a day. If 50% for example, are dud for the sake of argument, there are still 10,000 shells exploding on top of the Ukrainians. In addition the Ukrainians are also confronted with bombs, rockets, ATGM, grenades, millions of bullets, thousands of drones, missiles and mines. If you can visualize that, you can appreciate General Shoigu reporting that Ukraine lost 80,000 dead soldiers on their last 3 months of offensive. They are short of people at the front line. And no freaking Ukrainians want to be in the front line on their latest survey. Maj. Scott Ritter recently reported that Zelensky was moved out of Kiev by his handlers. And the UK would like to fight the Russians? Just saying.

@@slightlyconfused876Very different, a delve into history- Germany going into Poland, the reasons etc show this. Russia has a huge land mass and huge resources of energy and metals, it also does not have the military to invade Polans, the UK etc without resorting to nuclear weapons...to which their current doctrine does not allow first strike (unlike the US). Ukraine is a very different situation to Germany going into Poland. Funding Ukraine is burning money, extending the conflict and destabilising relations whilst reducing our resources. Unfortunately, the powers that be are well aware of this and continue on in the hope of destabilising Russia...it won't happen.

Ukraine is a lost project, but England needs a defence . The Russians are proving that the infrastructure is important, however the electric situation in GB is lacking due to Wind and solar. Cars will not run without electric. The UK is very fragile at the moment. NATO should go back to the idea of defending countries instead of being on the offensive position, if England wants to remain with NATO. The defence of the sea is also lacking.
